I’ve basically been doing that already to an extent. I’m not showing up on the rankings list for D class yet, so I’m below 250. I must be fairly close though as my points aren’t that far behind the last person on the list. Most of my times are in the top 200, but you only get points for top 100. I have one rival, who is pretty good, that I have focused on a lot recently. I beat his times on something like 35 tracks in D class. You’re one of the people I target too, but can’t beat you nearly as often. Although I have passed you on several tracks, you’re just on a different level than I am right now obviously. Your ghost beats me by less every time I run against it though, so that’s a good thing.
Oh, and I shouldn’t have nearly as much time as I do for the game, but its become a pretty serious addiction for me. I actually have a problem with my right index finger going numb from squeezing the gas trigger so hard and so often. The old fart in me still hasn’t realized 100% that squeezing harder won’t make the car go any faster Yes, I’m somewhat of an airhead…
Go to free play and set some times in drag. Those times are now included in the circuit rankings and shouldn’t take too long to do after you find some good setups. You’ll be top 250 in no time.
You’re really tempting me to jump back down into D class and beat some of my old times. lol. Good job though on being able to keep up more and more. Baby steps man.
Watch how much you play. Any gaming controller can cause hand problems without breaks. I’ve got a pinched nerve in my right hand that makes playing at a desired level difficult. It is a big reason why I stop hotlapping for long periods.
Lou another option is pick your favortie or best track and try and reduce your time there as much as possible. Try different things.
You may find something like a new technique or whatever that will improve all your times. You may only find that thing by focussing on one track and try and get as quick as possible ie the sky is the limit rather than having a specific target.
Tried that on a couple of the shorter Yas Marinas tracks last night. I love the Yas tracks, all 5 of them. I improved my times quite a bit, but really helped things out when I discovered that you could cut the final turn on 2 of them without it dirtying the lap. Don’t think that’s what you meant by trying different things, but it knocked at least .5s off my times and moved me up in the rankings quite a bit. Seems like cheating to me, but I figured if others that are ahead of me on the leaderboard are doing it, than I might as well too. What I did do was experiment with different gears around different turns. Definitely found some new ways to attack certain turns.
That little corner cutting allowed me to make it up to #977 overall on Forzstats and #226 in D class, so I’m pretty happy about things right now. Far from done though…
I’m going to take your advice and apply it to Spa. That’s my favorite track right now. I’m #94 on the leaderboard there, but I know I’ve left a lot of time on the course.
It depends on where your times are. Spec Rivals is a true acid test of out and out pace whereas Class Leaderboards are diluted by the use of tunes. If you are interested in improving raw pace and car control, I’d head to Spec Rivals and do those. Either that or focus a class and try and get each track below a certain threshold (top 200 maybe?). Whatever you decide, good luck!
I focus mostly on class leaderboards because I’m trying to improve my tuning skills at the same time as my driving skills. I will take a look at the spec rivals though, I’ve never even looked at it yet.
Been watching your progress, and I’m afraid you have reached a plateau. No matter what you set as a new goal, I don’t see you improving any further.
BWA hah hah hah hah!!! I jest
Couple things you might want to try, although it’ll be more along the lines of personal goals, rather than climbing leaderboards for others to see:
Pick tracks that you are not doing real well at, and try to improve.
Set some consistency goals. Pick a car/class/track combo that you’ve done fairly well at, and see if you can run consecutive “quality” laps - clean, within a couple tenths of your best time, etc. Running 10 laps between 1:50.000 and 1:51.000 will quite often win over someone running 6 laps at 1:49.500 + 2 laps at 1:52.000 + 2 laps at 2:05.000 (due to hitting walls and whatnot).
Try some of the other Rivals events, such as the already-mentioned Spec Rivals (apples-to-apples comparisons), or the Autocross events.
Well good thing I beat your times on those 35 laps first then huh? Just kidding…
Well, I do still have those two tracks that drive me crazy in D class. You ran some laps to try and help me out, but I didn’t improve much. Prague Short and Silverstone International just don’t agree with me at all. You’ve always given me great advice, so I will make another attempt. I just get really frustrated with those two tracks for some reason. I swear, I will run 50 laps and IF I better my time at all, its by less than a tenth.
Racing online has forced me to do that a little. I’ve been racing online with some darn good racers and its embarrassing if I don’t force myself to run consistent laps. I have a lot of work to do overall, but have made good progress with Spa and Yas Marina (unless its in A or higher). I can run those tracks all day long and have times that are reasonably close on just about every lap. I don’t have the level of consistency that you are referring to, but I’m close on those two. I’ll keep at it. Love it when Spa comes up in a lobby just for that reason. Yas Marina causes a totally different feeling if that lobby is a public one
BTW, thank you so much for knocking me out of the top 70 on Yas
Well lou you could always chase me around in B class. You will never ever catch me but you can try.
So now that i said that you should know that im completely joking but if you want to come up to B class at some point i will try to help you out as much as i can. You have greatly improved over the last month so whatever you set your goals at im sure you will get there
Well, give me about two more months and you’ll be wishing I stayed in the basement there buddy
Seriously, one class at a time for me. As you know, I race other classes online (just not all that well yet), but prefer to stay in D for Rivals until I feel I’ve progressed enough to move up to C and then B and so forth. I’ll be joining you up there eventually…
Not to sound all philosophical but if you focus on improving as a driver faster times will naturally be the result. Setting goals like top 100 or 1.30 at a specific track can be helpful but also extremely frustrating. If you continue to learn new skills your times will continue to drop.
Many newer drivers become so ingrained with “slow in fast out” for example that they never learn how to carry much speed into the corners. This is actually something I am working on now. I’m trying to slightly over drive the car into the corners without delaying how soon and how hard I can get back into the throttle. After a few trys im learning that I can take most corners a bit faster than I thought possible with out flying off the track. Obviously this is something you want to learn hot lapping as to not get a reputation as a wrecker in the lobbies. Also if you just try to go faster without changing anything else you most likely will just start pushing wide and missing your apex, experiment with turning in earlier or later and releasing your brakes slower or faster as well and soon your mid corner speed will be much higher than you thought possible
You pretty dam fast in D class. I would focus on D class leaderboards. Attack your worst tracks and get them closer to the top 100. Go after the easy points for forzastats . Try to top 100…50…25 in Dclass. Race D,C,B with friends and let C,B be your fun class. Good luck
