Rarely used cars

So I decided to play around with some of the cars in my garage that virtually never get used and discovered the 1960 AM DB4 GT Zagato is an awesome little racer in A Class.

What cars have you found to be surprisingly capable that hardly get used?

I guess it depends on if the car is “hardly used” by me personally, or “hardly used” by the rest of the forza community. I tend to avoid the hypercar class completely, unless I need something fast for PR stunts or Forzathon Live events. That said, I rarely see other people using the same cars that I use all the time. My “go to” car for pretty much everything is my Ford XA Falcon FE, a car that I have rarely seen anyone else drive. I have two, one set for road racing, and the other for offroad/general use. Maxed out in S2 class, they handle surprisingly well, and can easily hit 350 kph. Here are a few other “hardly used” cars, that I have found to be fun to drive…

Holden Sandman - makes a good drift car in awd because of skinnier than usual tyres.
Austin-Healey 3000MkIII - good for A class mixed surface
Ferrari 365 GTB/4 - A class road racing
Fiat 124 Sport Spider - good for anything…A class offroad, S1 class road racing, S1 class drifting
Ford Escort RS1600 - another one of my “go to” cars for rally/offroad, and danger signs. Fitted with the 1.4L turbo rally motor and full rally tuned suspension, this car is amazing on offroad tracks, and it almost the best jumper that I have.
74 Honda Civic RS - I have this one set for road racing (S2) with a V8 conversion and AWD. It’s twitchy, but handles very well. I also have one for A class offroad.
Lancia Fulvia Coupe - this is my dedicated C class rally car. Good acceleration and very good handling, and I’ve never lost a race with it.
Shelby Cobra - I run this as S1 class with AWD, lowered rally suspension, and full aero. It’s fast and tight on tarmac, but also works well offroad.

I agree with you about the DB4. It’s a very well balanced car and fun to drive or race. More people should try out these less popular cars, instead of defaulting to a Lambo or Porsche.

Nice list! Wasn’t expecting such a well thought out and informative answer (with no offence to anyone else who posted intended) Gonna have to check a few of those babies out. Thanks!

You are welcome

For me, I have always been interested in the less popular/less common cars, so i am more likely to try to drive something that everyone else ignores. I tend to do AWD conversions on my cars, and tune them for a mix of offroad and tarmac. I also prefer A class and some S1 class. S2 just feels too crazy and out of control for me to be comfortable with it. In real life, I drive a Subaru Impreza and do actually live in an area with lots of dirt roads, so my experience is reflected in my preferred driving style in Forza.

I think this week I’m going to try a rally tune on the little Ford Fiesta XR2, should be fun.

I never used the crown Vic until I found out it was a police car… it’s in disguise…lol.

AMC Javelin AMX has great interior and driving it from cockpit-view is very satisfying for me. Sorry, if it’s a popular car anywhere but in Europe it’s not much known brand I guess.

I use two cars regularly which I’ve barely seen online:

Holden Torana as Rally car in A-class and BMW I8 Roadster as S1 road car.
Both are not at the top pace in theirs classes but good enough to have fun with.

Here’s one that’s a little similar to the DB4 Zagato in that it’s a pretty decent A class racer: The old Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Stradale. It’s has more A class racing potential than the DB4, probably not quite as good as the Alfa Giulia TZ2, but better than the DB4.

I don’t have my list with me, but there’s a lot of sleepers that you’ll probably never see in ranked mode, including some that aren’t AWD. I think the fastest S1 car on roads that I’ve driven is a McLaren F1 GT. A S1 RWD McLaren F1 isn’t that far behind. Some cars aren’t as good as some others if you’re taking them to multiplayer, and some like the RWD McLaren’s have disadvantage in multiplayer even if they can set better times than AWD cars, but about every car I’ve driven can be made fun and smash unbeatable drivatars. Lately I’ve been going through all my cars in detail in alphabetical order, and it seems like just about any car I’m currently testing is pretty high up on my list of favorites …

… like the 2001 Audi RS4 in A class for road racing. I recently did a 44.1 lap at Moorhead Wind Farm Circuit in it. Compared to times I’ve set in other cars, that’s majorly quick. It’s probably best in street races. Garage space with me is limited so I was considering getting rid of that car, but then I got seriously with it and it turned out to be strong. That kind of thing happens a lot when I’m testing.

If you mean by hardly used by the rest of the Forza community and yet surprisingly capable, that’s quite a list, but I got some that I used but rarely see.

2016 Aston Martin VANTAGE GT12 - this car might not have the top speed but it’s an amazing car for track even it’s RWD
2016 Cadillac CTS-V - I got one in S1 with AWD and snow tire. Not really a track car but it can do 0-60 under 2 second even in A.
1970 Chevrolet EL CAMINO - Used to be a rally car, but I brought to Cross country and still do decent (except for the water)
2010 Ford CROWN VICTORIA - the 80% car of this month and my current winter race line-up, I put it in here because it’s freaking rare or people don’t race this boat
1994 Honda Prelude - This thing once help me beat bone shakers in FFA but never seen much people use it even it’s an exclusive
2002 Mazda RX-7 SPIRIT R TYPE-A - well… it’s a car pass car

The Mitsubishi GTO surprised me. It can kinda keep up with the Bone Shaker in A class.
And the Porsche 968 really surprised me as an awesome S1 rally car.

I usually avoid online racing and I mostly just cruise around and do forzathons when I’m bored. I should note that I don’t swap anything and I don’t use Forza aero parts.

I use a pretty good variety of cars, some favorites of mine are:

Bugatti EB110 SS - Great S class car with a high top speed, budget Veyron with the engine swap too.
1967 Corvette Stingray 427 - A class tuned with race tires and a centrifugal supercharger, spends the whole time in its power band.
2018 Dodge Demon - S class race tuned and really fun to drive.
Ferrari 599 GTO - I thought it was fairly ugly and I figured it would drive terribly, but its one of the smoothest cars I’ve ever used in Forza even without aero and the look has grown on me.
Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 - Blows my mind as a S class race car, the handling stat is a complete lie and it puts down the power very easily.
Lancia Delta S4 - My go to S class rally car.
Murcielago LP 670-4 SV and Diablo SV - Older Lambos never seen to get any use.
McLaren F1 - You think it would be more popular but its very rare to see them.
1970 Barracuda - New but not very common.

I used to see a lot of the Saleen S7, 911 GT1, AMG CLK GTR, and the MC12 in the older games but they seemed to have vanished from the face of the Earth.

The #2 GT40 Mk II, BMW M3-GTR and NSX-R GT are my top choices of cars. I used those purest of RWD cars back in the days of Forza 3 against the broken AWD Audi S5 drones.
