I was just watching the IGN review which looks unbelievable and scores 10/10.
I was just a little baffled when it says the online ranked play has now been done away with. I’m sure I’m probably worrying for nothing but this doesn’t mean it will be now in a similar kind of format that it was on team play today on FH4?! where it didn’t even give lap times at the end of races etc, so to not upset the less able players
I can’t comment of the veracity of the article but I found this quote in an article published today:
“Public-facing ranked multiplayer is gone so that players focus less on arbitrary numbers, but skill-based matchmaking still means you’ll go up against players with similar experience or skillsets to you”
My understanding is that PGG want to make Online more inclusive by making it less focused on numbers etc
“There’s been some significant multiplayer massaging, too; this time Playground has ditched ranked play for something less pressurised and that won’t penalise you for other people’s bad racing etiquette.”
Bad racing etiquette couldn’t be stamped out without removing the mode completely…
It’s still there just not visible, just bad wording on IGN’s part as the windows central article says “skill-based matchmaking still means you’ll go up against players with similar experience or skillsets to you”.
Yep, sounds like it will work the same way as ranked in FH4, it’s just players won’t see their ranks visibly so it won’t be a constant “must get to Grandmaster” mentality
Ohhhhhhhh okay we’ll see how it goes plus you don’t want people seeing you with a rank higher than them and then they’ll have a reason to gun for you. Compromise, I’m not opposed to that.
I’m also curious if we get to see our ranks privately in the menu or on our own screens but the other players are blind to where we actually stand.
I doubt you’ll see them privately either…seeing any sort of rank automatically makes a lot of people think “must get to the highest level at all costs” and this contributes a lot to poor racing. I think it’s more a case of the game computes a rank based on your results and then matches you to other players accordingly…but the rank is not visible by anyone except the game itself. So you end up racing people at a similar level of skill to yourself rather than racing people miles worse or better than you are…in theory of course!
It could do as a lot of people want the ranks as a goal to aim towards…on the other hand, the hope is to get more people to play who were put off by the “win at all costs” mindset. Of course, the win at all costs mindset will still exist…just, hopefully, it is muted a bit. We’ll have to wait and see I guess.
I did buy the Premium game, yes, but won’t be playing till later tomorrow as people my age need their beauty sleep lol
Beauty sleep is very good. Yes, win at all costs was gonna be a massive issue from the word go, completely discouraged racing clean. It needs to be more enjoyable instead of feeling like you’re participating in a death race.
Only in theory, in reality the angry children will still smash into you if you can drive better than them. Even with ghosting, without cheating it’s not always easy to get to the front of the pack when you start in dead last place.
Until they actually start punishing bad drivers nothing will change. A few 1 week timeouts would go a long way towards addressing some of their anger issues.
All true…the hope (admittedly a slim hope) would be that, by matching skill levels, you would end up with the angry children playing demolition derby with the other angry children leaving the adults to race each other in peace. On the other hand, I have never been an optimist and this is Playground so… acually the Developer’s name perfectly fits the online racing as it frequently feels like a playground!
I’m glad they are getting rid of it, splitting the player base between Ranked/Unranked was never a good idea. Also Team Ranked has been broken for me for time - it won’t save my result most of the time so I’ll stop getting annoyed it’s not rewarding me lol
That article has quite a lot of info but something it says has me a little worried: “Horizon Open is the new suite of player-versus-player multiplayer races, which now includes drift racing, and sees plenty of tweaks.”. I hope that doesn’t mean I might get a drift event in the middle of a normal racing series, guess we’ll find out later.
What are you talkin about? never had problem with ranked matchmacking, the max I probably waited was 5 min, and im the kind of guy who is playin 24/7h ranked. I think Ranked Adventure was so far the best option when u finished the history, and it was actualy the best content for some big youtubers. Had my best drive experience in forza playin rankeds. The only bad thing about ranked adventure in forza horizon 4 was completly a pay2win.
I still think if they took FH2 and FH3 multiplayer and massaged the skill point bonus and the check-in points, but kept the basic principles we would have excellent online races. The ranked players and team only aspect just ruined especially since you couldn’t jump in with a team or club. For 3 years I could never get more than 2 teammates into a Ranked Team Adventure. Why call it team adventure when you have to play it solo??
Please tell me they have filters in horizon open to choose which class or terrain like asphalt only racing. 98 % of my time is only in A class asphalt only and not having the option to choose only A class asphalt only is a big deciding factor on playing this game. I don’t want to sit there quiting lobbies until I get an asphalt only race. It happened in fh4 and you would think they wouldn’t make that mistake again but I have seen nothing to show the filters in fh5. Will be very disappointed if it is not an option and will probably not really play much because of this.
There are no filters. You can’t choose anything, there’s only unranked FFA and whatever you get is what you race (or dodge). Freeroam rush is still in there as well.
