Rain driving: FM6 vs FM 2023

FM 6 has rain streaks across the windscreen apart from the droplets that look properly wiped off when the wipers move AND the direction of the streaks change depending on what the cars doing… So there’s definitely tied to physics. Also, your car gets upset when going through puddles of water.

There’s none of that in FM today. The streaks are not there. Wipers don’t really look like they’re doing much to improve the line of sight and the droplets and streaks don’t move according to the forces on the car. No water accumulating, no racing like getting upset because wetter sections of the track.

I’m disappointed… And that’s putting it mildly.

Go to the store reviews and you’ll people praising the sound and visuals of FM 6 even in 2023. Bit off topic but just reinforcing my point on how the game has taken steps back in all aspects except physics.

fm6 was much more skill biased a lot less grip on the asphalt (dry or wet) iplayed fm6 till the last drop ,cause i hated fm7 with all my heart (tookl no skill and was all about the car)

luckily this game is harder agian with less grip and twitchy cars ,so skill is important agian. to bad the shifitng is a absolute joke and the mazda formula ( and maybe others ) are borderline OP (2 sec faster than anything on mapley valley

Yep, while the droplets do move on your side Windows. It doesn’t move naturally on your windshield/ windscreen. And tracks missing puddles just makes for boring racing. avoiding puddles was what made rain racing fun!
It really looks like they focused on the wrong stuff in this game. And got rid of the great stuff from old games.

Terrible controller vibration.
No sound Effect for bottoming out your car.
Scaled back rain physics on your windshield.
Fence shadow pop in.
Washed out daytime lighting
I know past games didn’t have this, but they said the game would have it on release. Ray tracing. Ray tracing on this game is very limited. Not even close to what they showed at the Xbox showcase.

FM6 was almost impossible to drive in the rain. It was so bad! The conditions in 6 would have been red flag conditions in literally any race at any track in the world. FM7 was a little better but still ridiculous. This one feels a lot more natural in the rain.

As for the graphics, water doesn’t move as much side to side as FM6 thinks it does but it was a cool feature nonetheless. Streaks are still present in FM 2023 and the water still moves left and right when you turn, but again, more naturally. Although I have noticed in some cars the streaks are difficult to see. Keep in mind too though that there is several different types of rain in the new one, not just rain/no rain.

forza is and never will be a sim. the grip in the rain on fm6 was fine by me ,it just took skill and track knowledge to know were the puddles were.

it separated the smashing throttle drivers and the smooth ones.

the braking was near identical to dry (i am level 1100 on fm6 so played it alot) only the grip on power was less

In the table of suggestions I have the request to put back the puddles and integrate aquaplaning, the more votes there will be, the more chance there will be to attract developers

No thanks. Hard pass. Like I said above, if a track reaches those kinds of conditions things get red flagged.

Share link please. I’ll vote!

It’s a video game.

So? It’s one that is and always has strived for realism despite not being a true sim. And this is the best yet.

Racing Touring Cars on the Indianapolis Oval & 70s F1 cars at LeMans is also completely and utterly unrealistic. Yet you can do it. Why? Because it’s a video game. Video games are about doing fun things.

Those are all things that could feasibly happen…

Well a race in South Africa between 2016 Nissan Sentras & a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL would never feasibly happen, yet you can in Forza. Who cares if it’s feasible, it’s a sim-cade game.

You can race super cars on the snow in Gran Turismo. Why? Because it’s fun. Not because it’s “feasible”

I guess you’ve never heard of the ice racing even they do in St Moritz… Yes, it’s fun, it’s also done IRL. I’m just saying. The rain driving in FM5 and 6 was unbearable. In this one it’s actually fun.

Well in this one you can select the weather…so just don’t select heavy rain lmao it’s that simple. People arguing for LESS features have always baffled me.

The rain in the new game is easily better than it was in FM6 and FM7. Especially the lack of swimming pools. You can claim it’s all about how skillful you are as much as you want but the facts are that rain and water on track in previous games was rubbish.
