Railroading Drivatars

Hey guys.

I’m not sure if this was discussed before but I wanted to point this one out as even though it’s probably a minor thing, it can be frustrating at times.
I love the game and enjoy my time with it, but what really grinds my gears at times is the railroading behaviour from Drivatars.
I don’t mean that they are just following a pre-determined path, it actually feels dynamic.
What I mean is that the opponents seemingly are glued to the ground, like a train on it’s tracks, with no way to push them out of their way.
Now you’d probably think I like to crash into opponents, but no, I don’t.
There were several occasions where opponents would block me because of this behaviour.

Once, in a cross country race, one opponent suddenly decided he wanted to go right which resulted in my front hitting his tail.
As he had an RWD and we were going rather fast, I expected him to spin, but nope, his car stayed in front of me, angled, going steeper and steeper, slowing me down in the process.

Today, during a road trip, going with the Local Motors Rally Fighter, I wanted to turn right, the Drivatar on my right however though it’s be better to go straight.
I turned, hit him, but even though his car was way smaller and lighter, he just dragged me with him, all the way until he pushed me into a tree on the side of the road.

As I said, I freaking love this game, but this is something that annoys me a lot.

So, have you had similar occurences?
Does this bother you at all?
Give me some insight.

I have noticed this as well and would like to add that alot of the drivatars are dirty as hell, i had one the other day that sat there for a whole lap just running into me if i came within 5 feet of the car…

Sadly, there are actually websites out there, telling people to be as dirty as possible in race, to give your drivatar better chances of earning higher credits when you’re offline.
So thank sites like prima games (The official guide people), for that particular problem. It annoys the hell out of me at times. I’m so careful to race clean then get three of them hit me at once!

I know exactly what you mean and in races it can be bothering. Sometimes the drivatars ram me from behind and stuck in my car they push me off the track. The only thing to do in such moments is rewind.
Outside of races they drive like lunatics, but there it does not bother me much.

Rewinding is not an option for me as I disabled it for higher payout
No rewind + dirty Drivatars + full damage = some frustrating races…
Curiously, those moments usually only happen to me in cross country races.

+2 option for a sim damage to all would be nice

I agree, this is frustrating. But what bothers me more is during the checkpoint races. Why is it that if I barely go to the outside of a checkpoint, it counts as a missed gate. But if a drivatar misses…BY A LOT…they just keep on going. And it’s not just an accidental miss, they are purposely missing the checkpoints to cut through some grass.

- YouTube Lol, I agree, they are kind of irritating how they always want to have a demolition derby with million dollar supercars. Here are a couple clips I took from my game DVR of some irritating moments with Free Roam Drivatars.

I’d settle for having them subject to the laws of physics

Also checkpoints.

Why is it that you can be in a quiet industrial zone, or a field in the middle of nowhere with not a drivatard in sight, you start busting some moves, drifts and burnouts and the like, you rack up an obscene amount of skill points with a full multiplier, then suddenly a whole herd of directionally deficient robomorons descend on you out of nowhere turning your quiet patch of Southern Europe into the freakin M25!!! Bang, skill points gone, and the drivartards disappear as fast as they appeared!

Been there, done that
The key is to keep a close eye on the map.
As soon as you see gray dots on the map, turn around and continue the other way.

I’d settle for just the checkpoints.

I’ve had this happen a couple times, and it’s annoying as words I’m not allowed to say here or on the radio. I’ve found the best thing to do is keep an eye out for grey dots and try to maintain your skills as you move out of their path to a different field. Another option is to finish your skills and take less points because less points is better than no points.

Ill admit im not a “clean” racer (I try but I just got a wheel, learning curve and whatnot) if i have to ill hit another car as a last resort, but i have one drivatar in all my races who you will pass then he goes like mach 100 and rams you. But then again i have seen some polite drivatars who cruise with you.

the races are scripted not dynamic. After doing many events and trying different combinations I’m pretty confident on that statement. It doesn’t matter whos drivatar it is, it is completely irrelevant. All ai have predetermined path that they take and if you block that path they do not respond so it seems as if they are aggressive and dynamic. Next time you launch up an event just look at it more carefully; there are always 2 packs usually separated by 5th-6th position. There is always a rival that keeps getting the pole position on the grid and stays there for the rest of the event in most cases. The rival is interchangable rotating around your friend’s drivatars usually. For example avatar A is the leading ai in one championship while drivatar B is within the same championship but not holding any challenge. On another championship B is the leader and A is behind.
Anyway long story short, this whole drivatar thing is a bit of a crap. I mean I saw a friend’s drivatar who did not even own the game. So I wouldn’t get caught up on this dynamic aggressive drivatar thing. It’s just descent ai.

Well of course their path is basically predetermined (even Drivatars have to follow the track) but it’s still somewhat dynamic.
If a Drivatar is closing in on you and you’re in his path (or move in his path), my experience is that they won’t just ram you out of the way but brake and change lanes etc.

Anyways, I also noticed some “Drivatars” being regular AIs with just gamertags as names (I raced against my second account at times which never started the game).

I don’t mind a little shove from time to time but it is quite annoying that collisions seem to have no detrimental effect on the drivatar’s line or speed. They all drive cars that weigh as much as a front end loader, it seems.

The rubbing and bumping doesn’t bother me as much as the drivatars being welded to the ground, especially when they cause the contact.

It is not scripted. It is easy to confirm that.
Drive behind a Drivatar around a corner, then rewind, in many situations the Drivatar changes his line after that.

I’ve also noted that Drivatars are much more firmly planted. They shove me around as if they’re ten times as massive and they barely respond to anything I do. The checkpoints are another gripe I’ve brought up, as I’ve seen an entire field blatantly ignore one in favor of a much faster route around it. The bumper cars against fifty-ton Drivatars is made worse by the fact that they suffer no mechanical damage, so I sustain 21% engine damage and 17% transmission damage because some Drivatar swerved into me but he is still like-new.

I can confirm this as true, as I’ve seen exactly this. I’ve also restarted races and saw different behaviors from the previous run.

Me stuffing a drivatar into a tree, death to drivatars!
