Quick Fix Tip: Adjusting Depth of Field for Better Race Graphics

I’ve been messing around with the game files and stumbled upon something interesting with the Depth of Field settings. You know those settings are in some files that don’t seem to be about racing, right? Well, turns out, they do impact your race visuals!

Here’s what I did:

  • Found <DepthOfField value="1"/> in some non-race-related files.
  • Changed it to <DepthOfField value="0"/>.

And guess what? There was a clear difference in the race - the blur, contrast, and sharpness were all affected.

For anyone who wants to try it out, just tweak those settings in your files. Keep in mind, I did this on “Ultra” settings, so if you’re on something else, you might need to dig around a bit in your directories.

I don’t think this was an intentional design feature. It feels more like a bug where Depth of Field settings are messing with parts of the graphics they shouldn’t.

If you try this out, let me know if you see the same changes. Could be a neat little fix for now!

Yeah man it sharpens up some stuff for sure, good find.I’m gonna have a look into the other files as well, did you look already and there is no mention of dof in any other file in the renderscenarios folder?

check “visualtarget” directory.

Looking now… will edit this in about an hour or so after some testing. EDIT: Yup,not sure which file it was inside Visualtarget Folder but my dashboards are nice and sharp now, great little tweaks.Turn10 needs to add an option to the graphics menu to disable all DOF effects if desired.I hope this gets some traction and people talk about this simple fix.Once again very good find my friend, thanks for sharing!

You found a fix and implemented it and it worked. So you’ll all probably get your credits removed for modifications to the game. Or worse…

I hope not, other games have DOF toggles, and honestly it makes the game look so much better it’s a possibility turn10 has overlooked it and will implement an option with the next update.I’m not playing ANY multiplayer,so it’s not like Im looking to cheat, just make the game look as good as possible, the trackside objects and signs are looking saweet!
