Sorry if this isn’t helping but I find nothing wrong with the game’s handling model. The only thing I find annoying is the speed sensitive steering, as it prevents you from getting those deep steering angles around apex and upset the car a little just for fun. Also somewhat strange is the steering behavior once the car starts understeering, the driver refuses to turn the wheel anymore, which I suppose is okay, as turning more wouldn’t help much.
One thing I hope to see fixed in a future patch is the way braking affects steering on the controller. If you prefer to brake late or brake mid-corner your driver stops turning the wheel. My controller is fine, all deadzones are working correctly and set to 0/100. Sim steering is on, assists are off.
Still, its a good handling model - vastly improved over FM5 and 6 as I recently tried out those two on a friend’s console.

I am getting this really odd understeer in both sim steering and normal steer. I have tried several tunes and I have tried tuning myself but nothing at all seems to fix this. Everywhere I look online it comes down to the person’s skill or that they aren’t using the right tune. However, this isn’t the case, I have held 1% times on Forza Motorsport 6 and was in the second highest tier of racing for leagues. In other words, I know how to race.
However, if I follow a proper breaking line and proper turn in my car just seems to stop. Like it doesn’t want to turn in past a certain point. Like the game thinks the controller should be able to move a bit further in steering.
If you look at Forza 6 yeah it’s a bit more arcady, but at least you have a proper turn in. I also switch between computer and console and wheel and controller. It’s as if when the controller is at full lock the computer only recognizes partial lock. Yes, I know that the computer does dampen the steering to prevent this in normal steering on the controller. However, this is straight no movement of the wheel at all like it locks up.
So I try to compincate by braking earlier, laying off the throttle. The problem is when I race online, I end up parking the car on the apex because my car has so little grip.
Now before you contradict me and say it’s my skill or that I need to fine tune “for my preference”.
I have downloaded tunes from much more competent racers like Super GT, Raceboy77 and Don Joewon. I would like to think they would know a little about racing. I have also tried all the different camber setting suspension softening and loosening. So I know it’s not that. Granted I am not the best tuner in the world by far nor am I the best racer. But I know I am at least somewhat knowledgable of turning and cornering and braking.
If need be I can make a youtube video with on-screen inputs showing you what is going on because I shouldn’t have to slow down to thirty miles an hour on a sweeping turn just to make the turn.
Are there any third party programs to artifilly increase the sensitivity of the controller?
Yes, there’s more understeer and less general and power oversteer in the game. Cars are more planted and way harder like almost impossible to loose. Unfortunately the one:one feeling that you had in FM5 and 6 is now severley nerfed, and I think it may have something to do with the new friction assist option they put in the game. It sucks, but on the plus side there are simulation cockpit effects that you can turn on in the game menus that translates to better braking in previous titles. Sucks that they took out oversteer though; your throttle inputs can be way less precise, there’s no lift off oversteer, you barley have to fight to keep the car in between the margin.

Disagree entirely honestly. There is more understeer yes, but still not enough imo. Forza 5 modeled the front grip of the tires much better I think. I do disagree about oversteer and especially lift of oversteer. Though there is less lift off oversteer compared to Forza 6 & especially Forza 5, it is still present in some cars & you can make it present in almost any car if you change the setup. Oversteer hasn’t changed imo.

My car control has improved since FM6 so I’ll give you lift off oversteer. It’s the only question mark I had when stating the oversteer problem. I’ve lost cars due to lift off oversteer in FM7. There’s no doubt they nerfed the power oversteer though, it’s way too easy to put the power down out of corners.
