Just a couple of quick Qs about how the timing works.
First, I recently finished a freeplay race at Homestead in the rain, unbeatable mode, perfectionist mod, vs. 23 other drivers, driving 911 GT3 RSR. Won the race with a fast lap time of 1:28.347. Looking at leader board that would put me in 9th place sorted by division, yet it lists me in 120th place.
Can you explain how the leader board scoring works?
Or, is this a bug?
Second, finished a race at Laguna Seca, unbeatable mode, perfectionist mod, and finished 1st in the Ford GTLM. Great! Happy to get the W. Again, looking at the scorring it shows my correct finish time, but it shows my fast lap as a full 20 seconds slower than the Aston that finished 2nd. Well, he obviously didn’t finish ahead of me.
So, I got curious, replayed the race and timed my laps using digital race stopwatch I have. My actual fast lap time was low 1:26s, not high 1:40s like the game said. Additionally, I did not have a single lap in that race over 1:28s.
Can you explain?
Is this a bug?
Not trying to complain, but at this point the Forza lap timing and scoring system’s integrity is a bit suspect, at least to me.
I appreciate your time in reading and researching these issues and look forward to your response.
I saved the replay, and checked my time against my stopwatch / lap timer several times.
As we all know, those Aston Martins are absolute beasts, and the scoring showed their lap times correctly, but my “Fast Lap” at the end of the race displayed a full 20 seconds slower than what actually occurred. The full race time was correct though.
I’m not mad, just curious as to why all the other cars displayed correctly but mine was off by so much.
Dirty laps show a triangle with an exclamation mark next to your laptime. You get a dirty lap by drafting or being drafted, contact with obstacles or going off track.
You could “wallride”, going into a turn without braking and use the walls as a brake.
That’s just how T10 (and many of their costumers) wants it. In earlier versions of Forza Motorsport drafting didnt dity laptimes. There were players being drafted by other players or even being pushed on straights just to have a faster leaderboard time.
I suppose you could ride the wall. And I am sure people do. I see all kinds of stuff people do on here that is not good racing or decent sportsmanship.
Just check out the first turn in multiplayer at any class for proof of that LOL.
Someone trying to draft me should not force me to go off my driving line just to avoid some penalty., nor should I be penalized for the actions of someone else. Just an opinion. But I do see the truth in team racing situations making that an issue.
All well.
Not really looking to dominate the leaderboards anyway, I just like racing.
Thanks for the insight.
BTW, they were “clean” laps, I checked. No biggie. But very good insight nonetheless thank you!
If you are using mods as others have said it will not show up during race as a dirty lap but will count as a dirty lap on the LBs. Further more if you have a clean lap on any track it will not be replaced with a dirty lap no matter if it’s a full minute faster than the clean lap, which could explain why you were seeing a time that was 20 seconds slower.
No, no, that issue had nothing to do with the leaderboards. It has to do with fast lap timing of the race.
The laps were “clean”, I checked. And I actually timed the race with my stopwatch / lap timer and while the “fast lap” of the race showed 1:46…, the actual “fast lap” was 1:26…
The lap was clean and I was just curious. Many of the other Divertars in that race were dirty as could be, knocking people around trying to squeeze into corners where they shouldn’t. Regular stuff.
However, I don’t drive that way myself honestly, I am trying to sim as close to reality as possible. In reality, those type of drivers get to do full stop in the pit penalties or worse on regular occurrences.
This was a “Freeplay” race, and the the times were correct, just not my “fast lap” in that race.
The leaderboard question is something different than the lap timing issue.
Also, the only mod used was the “Perfectionist” (sim damage, no rewinds). Since that earlier reply, I have even removed that mod as well. Although I am hoping collision mode set to “always on” will still be the same as sim damage.
Thanks for the response.
I really do appreciate all the people willing to chime in, it make the community a better place when we’re all properly informed.
It’s on the way uphill now. Lord know how long it will take. It was a 10 lap race, so around 15 minutes long.
One thing I did notice. I rear ended a guy around lap 4 or five as he slowed down in the middle of the track to get into the pit. Um, get over dude if your pitting. Seriously!
That obviously wasn’t my fastest lap anyway. However, even my first lap I times around 1:29, and that’s from a dead stop start.
So even touching the rumble strip will cause a dirty lap.
I ran a couple more races there since and got “clean” fast lap times that were more in line.
Very touchy this is. Did a race at Long Beach and I was watching very carefully and barely touching the strip on the right hander going into the long straight cause a “dirty” lap. And I do mean barely! Just the outside edge of the tire crossed it, missed speed bumps altogether but up came the triangle lol. Road Atlanta has a couple touchy spots too. So, I am guessing each track has spots where you have to just watch it. I don’t even want to think about “The Ring”, I will probably never get a clean lap there!
At some point I just gotta say forget it and go racing. . . = )
Well, mystery solved.
I do really want to thank you for you help, I was seriously wondering what was up with that.
BTW, you are absolutely correct about the leaderboards too. I noticed my positions jump when I got rid of the “Perfectionist” mod.
It’s funny really too, I run sim damage / wear anyway, I think I mostly did it for the increased pay out, so not that important anyway.
Again, thanks for your help!
One last thing for the Forza people moderating this forum,
Thanks for this game!
For me, it is the most compelling and truly enjoyable video game I have ever played. Bar none. Keep up the great work!
Times with mod cards post on the leaderboard but are below clean times and dirty times without mod cards.
Though not all mod cards increase performance (some hinder it or force assists off) it’ll still place an otherwise clean lap way down the boards. An update occured later in the game to where mods for xp and credit boosts no longer did this.
What is dirty (a triangle) varies from track to track. Some tracks are strick and others not so much. It’s been an issue with Forza for many games and is very inconsistent.
Drafting, driving off course, and wall riding will make the lap dirty due to exploits with each in previous games. Some cuts/wall rides that were clean in previous games resulted in massive gains on leaderboards. Same story with drafting. This is all done to ensure that no funny business is going on in the leaderboards outside of issue 3. above.
If you want to see an exploit, look at my D class Silverstone full rain top 5. I used the pit lane exploit to get a crazy lap. After an update, this can no longer be done cleanly. Lol. I was hoping those times would be wiped since the car I used could set a legit #1. Oh well.
If you like leaderboards a lot, play Forza 4. That game has overall leaderboards that combine all your times and rank you among other players. This leaderboard exists for classes and a big grandaddy leaderboard for all classes combined. This feature for whatever reason is not present in Forza 6.
