[PSA] If You Struggle in Trial *READ*

If you can’t beat either the Pro or Unbeatable Drivatars please, Please, PLEASE avoid doing any of the Trial events.

Why are you in the event if you can’t at least beat one of the Drivatars that is in front of you?
Honestly if you can’t handle the difficulty then leave and come back with a faster car.

Here are some tips:

  1. Get a good car, as OP as you get the better cause we need fast cars on the team. Stop using stock cars to race against the AI
  2. Learn the maps
  3. Get better at beating the AI on higher difficulties
  4. [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]
  5. Avoid hitting your team mates, idk why people in a TEAM race would push their team mates around and slow everyone down.
  6. Git gud, if you come in last place in all the Trial events and you haven’t even beaten 1 drivatar in front of you then you’re a liability

I hope this tips help you in your journey to get which ever car Trial Events have on offer this week or the next.

If anyone else wanna add these tips PLEASE DO SO! Sick of seeing people struggle against even the slowest AI on the team.

This is a problem with the game design more than the players (aside from intentionally ramming team members). So long as The Trial has to be completed to unlock content, people will be compelled to enter regardless of their skill level. Plus, not everyone can be expected to reach the same skill level.

Getting in the right car with the right tune for the job is important though. You’re absolutely right about that.

Fix the disconnections for the love of God !!! I’m tired of this crap, so many months and still a disconnection lottery.

Not all plays have skill or the ability to get better, I have no problem with carrying one player so they can get the reward.
Just do the best you can and stay out of the way, which I think most do.

The problem is when you have four of the six players at the back of the pack.
If you picked a bad car the quit in the first race as the next races can usually be recovered from as your points to the other team are no longer added.
Look what cars are fast in the first race, try to get one of these.
Dont run cars stock, plenty of tunes are available within the hour of events going live.
Stay out of the way of faster players and dont ram.

If your a faster player then slow down and stay just slightly ahead as this wont slingshot the computer players as much. I usually get to front then start to block the computer players but if a player passes me then races off into the distance the computer players get a speed burst and are hard to control.

Its a TEAM event, not sure why its so hard for people to understand that.

God, after lots and lots of winning 2:0 and receiving disconnection “surprises” middle race, my prayers been answers and I was able to get the car. My 2 cents, stay away from BJ Ford Bronco and pray drivatars won’t have one, for some reason the laws of physics are bent to the ridiculous limits by drivatars using that car. Watch out before checkpoint since drivatars will try to hit you around them (they are learning form players after all xD ), and try to aim for the holes in fences, walls etc. made by your teammates/drivatars to not lose speed by hitting the solid part of the obstacle.

Or just simply enjoy the game that you’ve paid for and play how you wish.

Words to live by, and pray you have competent teammates to carry you. Or at least have the decency to drop out if you can carry your own weight.

Unfortunately I doubt any of the people in stock 6x6’s that I keep lapping read this forum…

(But just in case y’all do: if you insist of using the stock 6x6 please at least take 12 seconds to fix the stock tuning on the front diff, then take another 12 seconds to turn off your mic.)

Most top players and those of us who tune our cars typically take 1 to 2 races to figure out which vehicle to use and which way to tune such vehicle to beat the AI.

The average player who doesn’t manually tune will likely more than not pick the highest level vehicle first then proceed to finding a tune for said vehicle working their way through until either they start overtaking the AI or they tag onto the team win.

The rest who never tune, don’t know how and or simply don’t want to deal with this will pick stock and stick to it, why not, this has served them well offline, so assumption made it should work online… However this isn’t the case, online typically demands for a well tuned car to beat the AI.

I’ve no issues helping team members to win, but and it’s a big but… if they go out their way to ram, smash and or block you deliberately I’ll quit the race… Why should people like this benefit from bad driving behaviour?

My typical goal is to get infront and slow the AI down by blocking the natural raceline. This works on most occasions, however when a team member fails to spot what’s going on and rams both the AI and myself out the way… yes I’ve been knowing to rage quit in instances like this.

There is only one golden rule to a ‘Team’ race and that’s to act like a team, not an ego tripping Muppet who’s all out for themselves. Points count…!! Not overall position. First doesn’t always mean a win… A team can easily win with a 2,3,4 finish so slow the AI down and let the ‘Joe Blog’ player catch up and pass them helping the team to win.

Ha, that was a mad trial. I tried a few offroaders, but the Ranger Raptor was the best for the job. Our team beat the drivatars 3-0 (for some reason the game gave us the victory during The Titan, even though the drivatars slaughtered us in that race, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway)

#1 DON’T use the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It doesn’t have enough horsepower. I could only get 436 hp out of it and that wasn’t enough to keep up with the Broncos and 6x6s that the drivatars used.
#2 DON’T use the 6x6, the handling is garbage for racing, even after tuning the differential before the race. I missed a checkpoint during the second race after the ramp because of the ferocious understeer. No matter how many times I hit rewind before the checkpoint, the cumbersome beast kept missing.
#3 DON’T use the Hummer H1, the launch is terrible. During one session on the mortimer gardens scramble, I had to pull out of the way of the start line so my teammates could get past.
#4 DON’T use the Gurkha. If you struggle with The Trial, then this hulking monster is going to be frustrating to drive. It’s also got a high center of gravity so you could roll mid race.

I’m not sure how anyone is having difficulty with a B class trial, but my B class Wrangler Rubicon makes over 570hp and I modified the tune a little for this event. It’s now more stable at speed and in the top 10 of the Coastal Rush Rivals times. Might be the fastest of the bunch driving Manual w/clutch and no aids.

I upgraded a bit of everything, so I didn’t have as much PI left to upgrade my Rubicon’s engine. However, the Ranger Raptor was entirely a horsepower build.

That’s really it. I was able to slingshot up the pack in just about any offroader. My teammates, on the other hand were too busy practicing WWE moves on the drivatars and get left behind. It’s definitely easy to find a rubbish team that will hold you back.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I see the Lambo LM 002 as the OP car for this Trial unless anyone proves otherwise to me. I put it 3rd on the Coastal Rush Rivals leaderboard, with only 2 x Track-Tors ahead of me. I also set the highest placed time on the Titan leaderboard with an eligible car.

I actually found this one of the hardest trials, my win rate hasn’t been much over 50%. Even though I can usually win every race, you can’t block the drivatars like you can in the other types of event, and typically most teammates will finish behind every drivatar in the Titan event as they don’t bring a car with a high enough top speed. Even in the OP LM 002 I’ve occasionally had a crazy fast drivatar in a race that simply drives away from me despite me driving close to rivals world record pace.

Did you miss Rayne SE’s post about catching you on that Titan B-class board? Gotcha by approximately 3 seconds in the Ford Raptor '11. I tried to catch up with you, too, still a fair 6 seconds behind, though. For what it’s worth, I can almost get you in the Terradyne Gurkha LAPV, but not without it being dirty. That said, the Trial doesn’t require a clean race, so the Gurkha could very well prove useful to anyone that has yet to complete it.

Thanks, just had a go with the LAPV. Got me to within 0.4 of the #1 Track-Tor for Coastal Rush, but wow that thing is horrible to drive. It took me restart after restart to develop techniques to try to minimise the likelihood of it kicking in an awkward direction in various places. I couldn’t recommend it for the Trial as it’s likely to miss checkpoints when it kicks you in a random direction. Still, 1.2 secs ahead of Rayne for Coastal Rush now

Thanks, I hadn’t spotted Rayne’s post. I’d noticed the Raptor '11 seemed better than the '17 based on other people’s times but hadn’t tried that or the Gurkha when I found out how good the LM 002 was, as I beat all the Raptor '11 times that were already on the leaderboard. I might see if either of them can go 2 secs quicker on Coastal Rush to beat the Track-Tors.

Did beat your LM002 time on Coastal Rush by 0.2xx seconds with the Raptor. If my left paddle shifter on the Elite Controller hadn’t died currently I would be running manual/w clutch and could shave off more time. I lose so much time during the start at Titan and Coastal Rush with only manual. And I’m too lazy/don’t care enough anymore to relearn effective clutch /w button shifting. You should be able to beat my times with a Raptor.
As always: V8 swap, centrifugal supercharger and redlining till the engine blows off ;D

What setup are you using on your elite controller for manual w/ clutch if I may ask? I have default layout 6 with Y as look back (that’s a must have for me as I much prefer it than pressing back on right analog), B as clutch, A is handbrake, LB and RB gear down and up. I have the bottom left and right paddles assigned to LB and RB so effectively a paddle shifter.

Totally agree! Made my own tune and it blitzed the unbeatable AI.

Unfortunately, I had to retry “The Trial” several times as although I came first almost every time, some of my team mates were appalling and either rammed me off course or came in the last four and this was even thought I had an easily noticeable livery and not the default the drivertars had…

Even despite being rammed off early in some of the races, I was still able to finish first, so yes, a well tuned “Ranger Raptor” is king.

Saying that though, in one of my attempts, that little white Jeep Wrangler was kicking butt, so that maybe a good choice for some players.

don’t do this, don’t do that…

I didn’t know there are rules for playing online

I always use stock car for both campaign/online races and do the trials

I’m sorry, but it’s not my problem if people just can’t drive anything, and tuned cars not exactly win races:

ohh what’s that? a ZR2 fully upgraded? last place?

cheers!
