Proposal for “No Contact Racing” in Forza Horizon 5
Hello Forza Team,
I’m Danny, a dedicated Forza enthusiast who has been playing since the first Motorsport series game in 2005—19 years, to be exact. It’s wild to think about how far the series has come.
As a veteran in the community, I’d like to make an open suggestion: please consider implementing “No Contact Racing” for all Ranked and Unranked Online Racing Sessions/Modes/Events in Forza Horizon 5, regardless of the race type, whether it be Road Series, Cross Country, or others.
I am a highly experienced tuner and driver, and I create my tunings for sportsman-like competitive racing. My goal is to see if my tuning knowledge and driving skill are enough to secure a win. In theory, this is a beautiful challenge, but in practice, the experience is often ruined by unsportsmanlike players who lack genuine skill and resort to running others off the track.
In 99% of online races, I find myself driving defensively, constantly anticipating when I’ll be intentionally rammed or pushed outside a checkpoint by frustrated players. This conduct prevents me—and many others—from fully enjoying the game’s potential. I never get to experience the full capabilities of my car in an actual race, which I believe undermines the purpose of the game.
The current setup, which allows for trash talk and negatively taunting quick chat options, does not reflect the true spirit of the game. The larger part of the community is being robbed of the scientific beauty, passionate racing experience, and appreciation of what Forza is supposed to represent. The existing system enables destructive behaviors that misrepresent the organic focus and flow of the game.
We should all be focused on improving our cars, enhancing our driving skills, sharing knowledge, and making friends under a true racing ethos. However, I—and many others—often leave online races feeling frustrated and disrespected. This is not what the Forza experience should be.
By implementing “No Contact Racing,” the game would shift towards a more skill-based competition where players must rely on their tuning and driving abilities. The current physical model, which allows for constant ramming and unsportsmanlike conduct, is counterproductive and disheartening to those who want a fair and skill-based competition.
In other games like Grand Theft Auto, “No Contact Racing” is implemented effectively, proving that this is a viable solution. Forza, a game focused on the beauty of cars and racing, should not be outdone in this aspect. Allowing players to crash into walls at 120 mph with no damage but still insisting on physical contact between cars in races is illogical and detracts from the overall experience.
The implementation of “No Contact Racing” would increase realism and authenticity in a way that aligns with video game standards, enhancing the focus on the cars, tuning, and original racing methodology. It would also make the community healthier, friendlier, and more positive, promoting a genuine interest in the art of racing and tuning.
The current collision detection system is flawed and often exploited by inexperienced players. It’s time to shift the focus back to the true spirit of racing and the shared passion for cars that brought us all to Forza in the first place.
Please consider this proposal to implement “No Contact Racing” across all racing modes in Forza Horizon 5. It’s a simple adjustment that could greatly improve the experience for millions of players.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Danny
