Prize Crates

Why does EVERY game lately have loot boxes/some sort of way to buy items besides playing the game?? * shakes head *

Easy to get people hooked on them, leading to them buying that “just one more” box because it might have the skin they want, leads to increased income for very low effort.

Lengthy discussion on Reddit about them here

I’ll check it out, thanks. Ya, the gambling aspect of micros is becoming a hot thing indeed. What better way to spend then push the lever one more time for that racing suit! I just really hate all that stuff, but the times are a changing! I know it’s all cosmetic and you don’t have to get it, but that’s been the attitude for all the micro stuff, and more keeps getting shoved in. But if you want to spend 200 to get all the racing suits before you do a race, who am I to say anything??

I just don’t see the point if you are spending money to get the game in the first place. You must surely want to play it a bunch, no?

Because many of these game companies make more off of people gambling real money for digital garbage than they make off of game sales. My opinion is that it’s an appalling trend, but until legislation is passed that bans this kind of gambling in video games, it will continue and only get worse. Apparently game companies can’t be expected to have a functioning moral compass.

The option isn’t to buy the items you want. The option is to buy pulls at the slot machine with the slim chance you might get the thing you actually want. I’m very surprised that more people don’t see the problem with this.

And first I raised an eyebrow at your post, but the more I think about it, the more this seems to actually fall under anti-gambling legislation. And if it doesn’t yet, it’s close enough that pretty soon, it will. Guess devs are scrambling to make a quick buck while they still can.

Oh, how I would love to see one of these vid game “journalists” ask the question: “doesn’t that fall pretty close to gambling? Is that legal?”

Okay thanks you very much for the answer

Wonder if VIPs get a perk or something when getting the crates… and if those of us buying the Ultimate Edition will get some straight off the bat?

We do get some exclusive driver gear as a VIP, so maybe.

Turn 10 has said there will be exclusive driver gear, but it’s unlikely they would give free crates. Maybe something similar to Horizon wheel spins where VIP’s get bonus cash.

As long as it’s solely for driver apparel, I’m not upset. That’s not why I would buy FM7, or any other racing game for that matter.

As long as buying crates works the same as the mod packs or what ever they were called in FM6 I am fine with it. Between those mod packs and the wheel spins in FH3 for Horizon cars that is the only thing I spend in game credits on, if you play for any amount of time on a high difficulty, have VIP and have a high forza score you get credits like crazy, 500k cr a week will buy you a lot of cars.

Figure a race is usually good for about 10k cr, VIP doubles that, and the difficulty I normally play on gives me another 90% I think, so each race is netting me 29k cr. Then they throw more cars and credits at you after every level which for the first 40 levels is after every race or every other race.

So turning every game slowly into “Games as a service”…even Forza. Unreal. I’ll say what I said on the Gear of War 4 forums. In game credits for loot boxes is ok with me.
Paying real money for a random crack at the slot machine is NOT ok and pretty much gambling.

It’s not pretty much gambling. It is gambling, and I thoroughly believe it should be regulated as such.

Gambling laws are so complex it would be impossible to enforce on an international scale

And, yeah you could say it’s illegal in America where the game is made but why lose profits in other markets/jurisdictions that don’t have such laws? Why not just implement it in those markets and not America? Spicy stuff

Or PEGI/ESRB to slap an adults only rating onto any game that includes them. Kids aren’t allowed into casinos to gamble, aren’t allowed to gamble in online casinos, why should companies be able to get away with a form of gambling that’s easily accessible to kids?

That is actually a really good idea

With people saying that this “loot crate” system is gambling, is it confirmed that you have to pay real money for the crates?

Not confirmed yet, but it’s the way it is for just about every other game that utilises a system like this. In fact, I’d be willing to bet money that it’s the case here too.
