I think I get the dislike for that system. Even for myself, a Motorsport 4 defender no matter what, it felt like there was something missing from getting higher and higher Affinity levels. I still wanted that Level 25 Mazda Affinity badge despite being able to apply parts on their cars for free for literal years now, and after getting it I still kind of want to do the same thing for most other manufacturers, and there are still many levels to go to get an Achievement I forgot the name of. But what else was there as a reward? Nothing, really. Either way, I think that system worked infinitely better than the FM one because it didn’t restrict anything, it was actually on the other side of the spectrum, which isn’t necessarily a good thing either. To balance it properly, the part price Discounts would have to be divided to more than 4 levels, let’s say those 25, because it takes a good while to get there, and in the meantime it could give the player some other rewards, special events and special cars. If FM decided to go that route, I think much less people if anyone at all would’ve complained.
Honestly in the current landscape of games going back to the old tried and true formulas without all the bad ideas that have been tacked on over the years would be an innovation in and of itself.
Going back to the OP, I don’t like the current system since it illogically limits player freedom.
IMHO a much better way to accomplish the goal of having players learn cars before just slapping a bunch of upgrades on them is to have a lot more factory spec races in both solo career and multiplayer, and maybe even per car factory spec rivals where no tuning is allowed.
I wish they would just add a driving school like it is in Gran Turismo. Where ppl learn how to drive the cars.
But it would have to be a bit better than what they done in GT. They should explain to ppl how the upgrades of their cars affect the behaviour of their cars. And all of that in great detail. They should also explain that the brake distance is shorter without ABS and all that.
Some sort of Before and After gameplay pieces, where you learn how much the upgrades actually do to the cars.
Ppl don’t need to “bond” with their cars. If ppl like cars they drive them, they don’t need the game to force them to drive them.
I mean even in Forza Horizon 5 all different car parts have better explanations to them, than in FM23.
A proper driving school would be amazing, but I also remember how frustrating it was getting the racing licenses in GT and how that pretty much completely blocked my progression in the game at the time.
That said, if the driving school were better at actually teaching (show the player the actual control inputs and provided guided instruction rather than just a quick blurb on how to drive and throw a difficult challenge at the player with no real instruction) and didn’t block career progress would be a great thing.
Maybe have it so your race license level determines who you get matched with in MP so having a low license won’t block you from anything, but if you know how to drive you can do the challenges to earn some nice rewards and access to exclusive race lobbies of similarly skilled players.
Well the ppl that are new to simcade racing games, just need to learn how to drive. If they can do that in the game, they can completely remove this horrible progression system, because it would be irrelevant then.
But even if they never add a driving school, this horrible system has to be removed.
Teaching ppl something, is sure as hell more useful than grinding carlevels for hours.
This tedious and unnecessary car leveling system will no doubt become less painful over time once dedicated players have leveled their favourite cars and others have just given up on the game. New players however will be in for a rude awakening.
And that rude awakening’s going to be amplified for Turn 10, because a lot of those potential new players are going to leave. Most of them were never going to stick around, anyway, because they’re Horizon players who are only showing up for the free car and driver suit for that game.
Yeah imagine being a first time player, you see the horrible carchore system and think to yourself “what is this nonsense?” and then you just uninstall the game.
Wow there are 501 votes already. I didn’t think so many would vote.
I just got an achievement which only 0.02% of players have. It was the Garage Royalty achievement for reaching car level 50 in 30 cars. That’s how dire the situation is…
I only have 6 cars at level 50 atm. I only got the achievement for having 5 cars at level 50 of the same brand. Only 0,4% of the ppl have that.
But yeah it’s no wonder barely anyone has 30 at level 50. I guess you are using an AFK grind method.
I will max out the 1995 Porsche GT2 next. And then 3 other Porsches for the max brand discount, i already maxed out one Porsche.
Yup afk farming because like many I’m strongly against this leveling system and how it limits what players can do.
The bad thing about owning the steam version is, i can’t let my other computer (laptop) do AFK farming, while playing on my main computer. Because i can’t play 2 games on the same account at the same time. Else i would let my laptop do AFK farming and play Starfield or something else on my main rig.
I actually have 41 cars, all over LVL 40. I’ve been leveling 3-4 to level 50 each day simply because like most I like to try one of the 500 cars available. Given I’m well ahead of most and that many can’t afk farm, I continue to look at how poor this whole car leveling system is for everyone. It forces players to play a certain way and greatly limits what they can do. They just need to scrap it. It’s really that simple…
Here’s a simple solution. Update the car levels of all cars currently in the game to level 50. Then each month add the cars that you would otherwise drip feed to us to the builders cup where these new cars are level 1 and need to be leveled and only obtainable from the builders cup via new races/events. That way you’re not completely throwing out the car leveling system, nor are you upsetting your player base, plus your enhancing the single player builders cup which is subpar at this point. This took me all of 2 minutes to think. Imagine what I could do with 6 years…
it’s just a matter of time until this poor Xbox is gonna explode.
I don’t think forcing players into builders cup by making it the only way to level their cars would be a great idea since it would exclude multiplayer focused players/free roamers + it wouldn’t fit the design philosophy behind the system which is: “As long as you drive your car in whatever way, it will gain XP and level up”.
A meaningful short term solution would be to shorten level up time by at least 50%.
No bueno
It was my version of a middle ground if the leveling system can’t be removed. I much prefer just removing it.
When purchasing cars they could provide players with 2 options:
- Boost car to level 50
- Downgrade car to level 1. Please contact the following number to speak to a local therapist.
An alternative credit solution is definitely the simplest solution. Every part can be unlocked for credits. In the meantime, parts you haven’t purchased become available for free as you level your car up.
