I was playing some playground games earlier in Forza Horizon 4 and was remembering what playground games used to be like. It used to be a fairly competitive and entertaining way to hang out with friends. It was difficult for sure, but it was a great way to interact and meet other users. I honestly have Fh4’s old playground game system to thank for getting introduced to this amazing community. (For context it was a series playlist for when the Hoonigan RS200 first released and I searched the Official Forza Discord for help; where I have met some of my greatest friends)
Nowadays players do not actively participate. They will sit in place, purposely help the opposing team, et cetera in hopes to get the event to complete sooner. This is because ever since July 3rd 2020, Forza Horizon 4 and onwards introduced the “everyone is a winner” motive. It went from where you had to get 1st to complete the event and earn the rewards to today where you just have to complete it to earn rewards.
I wanted to hear yals feedback regarding this thought/idea (please make sure that it is respectful/helpful criticism). Personally, I hope that it will revert to the old ways. The trial isnt everyone is a winner… why make the playground games events the same way. Thats just my opinion. There is no push to get better/improve upon the playground game events if nobody wants to put in effort to complete them. Personally I feel the everyone is a winner motive is not helping this either.
I rarely have to do the Trial more than once, but I can still remember FH4 when I had to do 4 or 5 rounds of PGG just to win. It was incredibly random wether you’d win or not, if the other team was coordinated with voice chat they would have a huge advantage.
They can either take away the competition and you’d do it just for fun - which they did.
Or they can try to make it more fair, eg. lobbies where voice chat is completely turn off and more strict match making to make sure players with equal skill get into each team and also same amount of players, not 4v6 which happens quite alot to me.
PGG certainly became less exciting after “everyone is a winner”, but it also became tons less frustrating. If they want to bring back the competition they’d first have to implement some systems for fairness.
I wasn’t around til Horizon 4. My only thought about what you’re saying it “used to be” like, is that this would end up going to the opposite end of the spectrum where everyone wins quicker to most win slower. I guess that’s what I’m getting from the post. Honestly, if that’s the case, I’d rather the “everyone wins quicker” than having to redo things over and over again until you manage to get into a group you’re better than.
I would be happy with that. They could also do that for the Trial and Horizon Arcade. If you lose → get half the points sounds good. Would certainly lower frustration.
