Can you actually see other peoples’ drones online? When I was using it, nobody seemed to have noticed.
Nope you cant. Only drones you see are in the HUB area and are just ambient effect.
I think it’s quite lame you can’t see them. It would be much easier to follow them while shooting a video if we could actually see them.
They need some more tweaking altogether anyway. I’ve already had two instances were I was blocked by fences that shouldn’t have blocked it in my opinion. The first one happened when I drove onto the pier. Couldn’t fly over the barriers to take a photo from a distance, neither worked when I parked my car back where the beach ended/started. I had to fly all the way back to the start of the pier, get around the fence and then back to where my car was at. Even then I wasn’t able to take a photo, because it can only go up to a set height, which is determined by X meters up from whatever you’re flying over. Thus making it impossible in this instance to look over the barrier and see my car.
A similar situation occurred at the end of the road where the lighthouse is at (behind the festival). I was not able to fly over the stone barriers and could only follow the actual road down.
I get that we can’t move too far away from the actual map, but at least give us a decent radius and height around it so that we can take decent pictures with it.
This feature is going to open up Forza based cinematography a great deal. I’m going to be spending a lot of time in the demo getting a handle on the controls and tracking shots on cars so I can instantly start creating some wonderful content for my YouTube channel.
You definitely can see the drones in online, I was able to see other people’s drones flying around when we all parked up near the Hub. They are massive, definitely camera drones. If you don’t see them, then no one is in drone mode.
One thing with the drone mode in the demo makes me kind of worried if it doesnt go any higher in the full game.
Had the same problem, bumped into quite some obstacles (mainly houses) flying backwards while I was following cars.
For those who don’t know this, you can gain more height in drone mode with this simple trick. You need to fly up to the front porch of a house and if it’s at the right height you’ll clip up above the house and gain about three times the height available on the drone. It doesn’t work on every house, but you’ll soon figure out which ones are likely candidates once you’ve done it a few times. I have a photo and couple of videos on my xbox showing it right now. lol

Why exactly are we limited to 6.6 feet above the ground? I imagine this may have been addressed earlier, maybe in earlier games, but I can’t find anything.
It’s always been this height and i’ve never seen an explanation. I’ve taken shots from cliffs down onto cars below so it works. So I have no idea why it’s limited. But as i’ve found with the building trick you can get higher. It better not be limited like this in the full release otherwise my plans for drone mode will not be possible and it’ll be another unused feature. lol
Who gets a drone to stay exactly 2 metres off the ground? The point of a drone is aerial shots, not head height shots you can get with a regular camera!
Thought I’d add this in here.
When I was testing it out, another car drove by and I ran into it. The drone clips into the other car, not just hits it. The car does “disappear” though, so no trick interior shots.
Apparently you can’t see them online, so maybe the point is moot, but in case that’s something that is in there for the full game, you can have some knowledge that you won’t have drones flying into your car like mosquitos while you race. They may be a visual nuisance, but not a physical one.
Has anyone actually tested to see if it’s visible online or is this just speculation/expectation? I’ll be doing so with a friend of mine tonight so I’ll report afterwards.
Has anyone else tried to see if drone mode is accessible during a replay? I haven’t checked yet.
I imagine not, it would be pretty awesome if it was because then you could save a replay and go back and get different angles from the same shot. Would create some awesome videos for youtube I imagine. Would also solve Horizons issues with camera angles in replays.
The tough life of loving to drift and also usually being the camera man

Other than to just float around at a very limited height, does it actually do anything else in the full game?
While it’s just a nice distraction in single player, in multiplayer it really shines for watching players do their thing and recording gameplay from new angles. Or just taking that group photo you were itching to do. =)
I’m really looking forward to the drift videos my crew can put together using the drone mode. Having full control over the camera will make for some pretty spectacular views.

It’s supposed to be really helpful for barn finds as well. And it has a really high value for photographers and video recorders.
While I won’t use it much myself I’d say it’s a nice feature.
