Penalty System 2025

Does anyone know, or have any insight, into how the penalty system now actually works? I have been “S” for about 9/10 weeks, but today misjudged a corner and two of us collided. I get 2 sec penalty, they get 1 sec (that is another discussion). But, for my ONE error I go down from “S” to “A”. Now last time I went down it took around 10-12 clean races to get back up to “S”. What is the logic/rules? I also play ACC and understand their penalties, it works and is also totally fair and transparent. This is just garbage!?? If anyone knows the coding of how penalties are implemented I would be grateful for insight.

It doesn’t.

I constantly get rammed off track or spun out, and the attacker never gets a penalty over 0.5s

I even spun a guy out 3 times yesterday, never got a penalty.

But god forbid you go a little wide or cut a little bit of track.

Earlier today I ran a race against the Ai. The car I was using was a stock AMG GT Black. I had plenty of issues keeping the car up to pace with the bots.

One turn, the Ai does the usual walking me onto the rumble strips on a righthander, and that caused the GT to bereak traction. I slid left towards the outside of the turn and safely off the track. When I rejoined, the upcoming turn was a left hander, and I should have been clear for a rejoin. I still proceeded cautiously, but the Ai could give two hot ones. I got collected and sent back off the track and into the tire wall. Broken suspension, busted engine and 4.5 seconds for avoidable contact…

Yup. It’s #working-just-fine.

LOL

They talked about it back in october:

Tough topic this. Honest mistake? Premedited nudge? How do you interpret, in real time, people’s actions but moreover their intentions. Seems impossible. Even in real life they make mistakes after reviewing stuff with slo mo footage…

Feel free to glance through this discussion about how poorly it works:

Unfortunately faster players got the short end of the stick with this one. Theres a predetermined time that these penalties are based on. When faster players go off the track more times than not theyre going faster than this predetermined time, so the penalty is larger. They said they were going to try and work on this, but nothings changed. It’s obviously a flawed system, kind of surprised they did it like this, but then again im kinda not.

Except I can go off track, hit the gravel trap, return to track and still get a penalty.

I’m surprised Turn 10 doesn’t run AI to the speed of say, Raceboy77, who’s faster than 99% of players, and let THAT determine what’s really fast. I say this because often times, when I choose my tyres on the starting grid of an online event, the game will tell me the “expected lap time” of that tyre, and it’s way faster than what I achieved. So I believe they have AI that’s uber quick and that could help better define all those “speed calculators” they have lying around the tracks.

The predetermined time cant be too fast or almost any time people cut the track theyd never get a penalty. It kind of is what it is, but i think certain off track penalties need to be more consistent for where and how the car goes off.

Like understeering and slightly running wide onto dirt or grass isnt gaining time. The penalty zones should be a little more specific to the track and where time advantages can actually be gained or conversely where they wont.

I think unlike the ai, the penalty system has actually gotten better this past year. But it only takes one erroneous penalty to ruin someones race and make them dislike the penalty system.

Someone just uploaded a video of themselves getting an illegal pass penalty because they were off-track when someone ahead of them disconnected from the race.

What bugs me about the penalty system is why do off track penalties impact your safety rating.

I can understand big cuts impacting safety but not the ones when you just go slightly wide. The penalty you get in the race should be enough

I have practically stopped playing because of the penalties for going off track, for me it’s a double punishment. You go off track (whether it’s your fault or not), you lose time and the game penalizes you. Such a system is impossible to enjoy.
If Forza did a 24 hours of Daytona event like iRacing, the penalties instead of seconds, would be months.

I don’t know. Drivers in real life will go off-track to avoid a mess, but if I do that here I’ll be slapped with a couple seconds of penalty.

You’re both penalized for getting in a collision and penalized for avoiding it.

What’s fun is watching a live race and then compare it to Forza penalties so many drivers and cars would never finish.

It still amazes me that max penalty for a collision is 5 seconds.

Meaning the fastest way to end your own race is by cutting the track, which doesn’t ruin anyone else’s race.

Meanwhile you can dive into corners and ruin the races of multiple drivers multiple times.

It’s all AI driver based, so if u drive high grip car, and take corner slower than ai can, but ram of track someone that is taking corner faster than ai could in his low grip car, he will get penalty for collision even tho he was just send off track.

The same is for corner cutting, If u take corner rly slow, and cut half of corner, as long as u are slower than AI, u will get no penalty, but if u are rly fast, and drive on car limits, and unfortunately just extend corner by a Pixel… U will get 1.8s penalty, all because AI can’t drive that fast.

And many pros would have an embarrassing Safety Rating!

Many top level Forza players already have embarrassing safety ratings because of the track limit problem of unfairly punishing fast drivers losing time going off track.
