As the title says, i have a problem with framerate capping in the demo. I’m playing on a Lenovo Y700 laptop (i5-6300hq, gtx960m 4gb, 8gb ddr4 ram). In settings I tried out running the game at HD (1280x720, yeah, not much, but bear with me) on dynamic medium settings, with a 30 fps cap. It looks good, it’s stable as far as i got it from the Autumn race of the demo. But after that, comes the Winter race, and it uncaps itself to 60 fps, and well, it hardly reaches it (does around 40-60 fps). That itself wouldn’t be a problem, but it seems that the added stress makes the loading of the track ahead REALLY slow, so i catch up, and comes the freezing. Cars piling up at an invisible wall, and then comes a little waiting. Well, i link in the recording i did. And yes, i tried without recording, same result. Aside from that, i could run it in FHD mostly 60 fps on lowest, and at HD and HD+ (1366x768) with stable 60 fps.
Thanks in advance for the help.
P.S.: oh, and forcing 30 fps in nVidia settings isn’t avaliable, because mobile GPU, so that workaround is out of question. Oh, and the video link: - YouTube (it doesn’t have audio for some reason )
No, it doesn’t go over, as i mentioned, it uncaps to 60 fps. I meant that it caps at 60; but as i have higher settings, it’s not always reaching it (but it caps at 60). It’s just I was quite good with having only 30 fps for higher quality, played FH3 mostly like that. FM7 on the other hand runs well at 60 fps FHD with dynamic optimization, but that’s different i think.
And as i wrote as well, I can run it at 60 fps on lowest settings, but wanted to tweak the settings to my personal preference.
Well, i don’t know how you’re with it, but after FH3, i rather test out the game as much as possible, trying out lots of things in options, and getting the feeling of the game. FH3 was somewhat disappointing for me after all the hype. The setting (the rainforest, and the modern city didn’t catch me after all) and the physics weren’t as good as i thought it would be after watching tons of FH2 (used it as reference) and FH3 videos. Tried out the demo, too, but i was thinking i can get used to it. Couldn’t. But FH4 resembles FH2 more, and after playing FH3 and FM7, i can says it’s much better handling-wise. Kind of like from FM6 to FM7 upgrade.
I noticed this as well, kind of annoying as you cannot ‘fix’ it by adjusting the options, have to restart the whole thing to get it back. And since the demo forces you to do that intro segment where the seasons change every time you launch it, you can’t experience the rest of the demo like that.
I wanted to check out the game with the details completely maxed at rock solid framerate, but it just wasn’t possible. External FPS limiters weren’t as stable, either. I doubt they’ll fix this for the demo, but hopefully it’s not an issue with certain transitions in the main game.
This happened on my RX480 so it’s not an Nvidia only issue. Thankfully freesync worked so the variability in the +40s wasn’t as distracting as it otherwise would have been.
I’m having technical issues caused by the non-working 30 FPS cap. With the cap in place, the game works flawlessly, but with a 60+ FPS cap despite the 30 FPS setting, I get the same problem with loading the map and the cars getting stuck. I really hope they patch the demo to fix this.
