PC: 360 vs Xbox One controller

I’ve been using a 360 controller for my pc for ages now. However, it is getting a bit loose in the sticks and I am going to replace it before the game comes out. I am wondering if I should go with another 360 controller, or get a more expensive Xbox One controller. Are there any major feature differences between the two?

EDIT: I did look up some articles, but most of them focused on the difference in the dpad, which would make no difference whatsoever for racing games. I would like input more or less from people who have used both the controllers in racing games, and the major differences in them.

Vibrating triggers on xbone controller. And if you have Bluetooth on your PC, the X1S pad connects wirelessly without any adapter.

How well does the trigger vibration work for racing games? Do they aid in car feedback?

Dan sums it up well describing how much the difference they make in this article.

The haptic feedback on the Xbox One controllers alone is worth the upgrade.

Overall, the One controller is better designed and constructed.

That definitely sold me on it. Thanks everyone for the info much appreciated!

Make sure you get the Xbox One S controller and not just the regular Xbox One controller.

I tried forza 4 on the 360 controller recently and it sucked compared to the feedback the Xbox one controller gives you. I couldn’t go back.

I like the Xbox One controllers for the sloped triggers as opposed to the Xbox 360. While I love the Afterglow controller for the One, the texturing is better on the stock controller for long races.

The 360 controller raised the bar at the time, but frankly the Xbox One controller perfected it. Honestly wouldn’t be dissapointed if the next generation xbox just used the X1 controller. It’s that fricking good!

The 360 controller has much stiffer triggers, which i prefer. I also don’t like that the Xbox One controller triggers are sloped on the sides. I much preferred the straight triggers on the 360.

Honestly, if I could get the 360 controller form factor and stiff triggers with the Xbox One impulse trigger rumble that would be heavenly.

I have both and much prefer the 360 controller. The sticks on the One controller feel too loose and sloppy after being used to the relative stiffness of the 360 ones for so many years.

I personally found the vibrating triggers very annoying and of little value so I just turn vibration off altogether when I play on Xbox One (you can’t disable just the trigger vibration). But playing Forza Apex and Horizon 3 on PC, with a 360 pad is for me much nicer. I play with ABS off and have no problem judging braking without the vibrating triggers.

But it all comes down to personal preference, there’s no definitive right and wrong answer to this.

I really wish the 360 pad worked on an Xbox One but MS artificially prevented that from happening.

I don’t want to hijack this thread but I have a very related question as I’m in a similar situation of considering the option of an X1 controller.

I get that the rumblies on the triggers can provide a big advantage for braking and acceleration but that’s all the review/comparisons ever talk about, or just general stuff. I would like to know about steering related to Forza. Are the joysticks improved in any way, or are they similar to the X360 controller?
I’m not saying that the earlier controller needed improvement, I’m just wondering if there has been any when related specifically to steering. Is it more responsive, is it too light etc.

Cheers.

The Sticks are a bit shorter (at least they feel that way) and lighter. Of course it took a bit of getting used to it, but eventually I liked it better than the 360 sticks. Really down to personal taste though.

The Elite controller comes with a set of sticks of different length and shape. I thought that the longer ones make for better precision on racing games, but they didn`t feel comfortable for my hands, so I stick to the default ones.

Just to add, in general I`d recommend going for the Elite controller to everyone who can live with the crazy high price.
For genres other than racing the paddles at the bottom are just great, I use them instead of “press stick” for stuff like running, aiming or whatever modern games usually assign there.

Cheers for the response to you and the others.
Yeah, I get that how they feel is down to personal taste, I was just curious if anything had changed, technically wise, with the sticks as nobody seemed to really mention it in reviews/comparisons.
I think I’ll wait and see how the X360 controller feels with the full game first before deciding. It’s nearly here, that’s if MS allows us to actually download it, so I can wait a bit. I can’t afford the Elite controller price and if I could I would probably look at a wheel, which I don’t have room for anyway.

It’s all personal preference in comfort and feel. Only the Xbox One Elite controllers really have a greater degree of precision and customizability but I’ve never used those. Best thing would be to hold both if possible and choose the one you think is best for you. Sometimes demo kiosks are available in stores for the XB1.

On 360 controllers and XB1, the 360 controllers do work when streaming to PC. Unfortunately 360 wheels do not.

Go all in for the Elite controller. I was skeptical at the price but when I first used it I was sold. You won’t look back

True but the Elite controller is $150. You can get a base level Thrustmaster wheel for Xbox One that you can use for all driving games for $100. If you want to take the next step up, you can go force feedback base level wheels for $200 to $250.

I had 360 controller for pc but decided today to buy xbox one controller.
Shapewise there’s no big difference, but overall feel is a bit better (though it might be mostly because my 360 controller is 7 years old.
Biggest difference for me was rumble motors on triggers which give really nice feedback about traction.

Overall no regrets so far even when the controller + play’n’charge kit cost almost the same as the game

I was in the same boat. I had 360 controllers but wanted the trigger feedback. So I got an xbone controller and usb dongle. Man , it difference is amazing. Feedback is perfect and I find it a lot easier to catch oversteer where the back end skips out. Get it for sure.
