Parts upgrade = sound change?

Hi folks!

I just got Forza 6 a couple of weeks ago and I’m enthralled by it! Absolutely love it!

I was curious to know which parts upgrade alter the sound of the car? I notice adding a turbo for example makes a distinct spooling sound which is as expected. Changing the entire engine also alters the sound as expected.

I couldn’t quite notice any difference in sound when upgrading the stock exhaust to a racing one though. Same for a cold air intake upgrade, no change in sound.

Anyone know which part upgrades alter the sound? I’m curious as I’m a bit of a sound nut!

Unfortunately, things like that aren’t included in this iteration, but you’d think they would be, right.

Sadly changing some of the most obvious engine components don’t make an audible difference, while some do. Such as the turbos you mentioned, and the various superchargers.

Changing tyres ‘should’ make a distinct sound difference, but they all have a ‘canned’ sound effect applying to all tyre upgrades. Even turning casual corners will give you a screeching sound that you’d expect from tyres about to let go. But the sound is the same basically across most of the game.

Overal the game does have great sounds, and when listened to on a good home system, it does make muster.

A hint:- go into your Audio Settings and change the settings from TV/Home a System to Headphones.

You will notice a difference in the sounds from the cars themselves, and the various sound effects around the tracks etc.

The tire sound in this game needs some urgent work as it reminds me too much about the one from this game.

Not really.

Camshaft upgrades raise your redline, thus raising the pitch at higher RPMs, but that’s basically it.

I’d say cam makes the biggest difference, I only really notice when my surround sound is up way loud, that’s usually only to drown out the ricers and their rattle can exhaust next door.

No audio difference. On nearly every car, you’ll just hear higher revs owing to the cam upgrade. Or an engine swap- unfortunately, all swaps sound practically the same in each car.

Real shame - gone are the days of Forza 2, 4 and 5 with those glorious stock car notes and upgraded notes.

Don’t forget Forza 3!!! The sounds in that were brilliant.

And yes, many of the car sounds are similar, but in all honesty, unless your a sound-phill expert, it’s hard to pick SOME sounds.

I was just using the recent Hotwheels 'Stang and I can tell you, you can really hear the charger, the gearbox whine, road noises and cockpit sounds.

Many of the race breed cars do sound great. Listening to the mustang flying through the tunnels on Rio really sounds awesome.

Sure, there’s no distinct difference with standard and performance exhaust systems other than a slight change. But you’d expect more when upgrading it to a full-on race exhaust system.

Yes, there’s some discrepancies with many of the cars. But we’ve jumped 3fold car garage wise from Forza 3. And ghosts when they were really using everything at their disposal to mimic real car sounds.

I was privy to many of the development updates at the time due to having a Xbox centric website thet got us into many of the MS/Xbox game developers days. The details they went to at that time were huge in reproducing car sounds.

To do that NOW though, and still have the game at the SAME retail price point would be impossible to say the least.

So there’s obviously been corners cut sadly. But we’ve also become much more demanding as the iterations moved forward.

If we want pristine sounds, then we can expect to pay more… For the most part, the general user is relatively happy with the sounds.

But for those of us that would love perfect pitch, then I’d expect to be paying more. It’s a hard call to make… Would you pay more for perfect sounds??

Yeah lol… but that me and a handful like us car/audiophiles. Not many have (or want) 8000+ watts of 12s in their daily drivers lol.
