Has anyone ever pitched the idea of a paint app for tablets? I love working on liveries and different logos and stuff, but it takes away from my race time. If I had a way to work on them while waiting in a doctors office, or wasting time between meetings it’d be super awesome.
Even if it was just for making groups and such and not yet available for particular cars, it’d still make life better.
I’d easily pay a few bucks for something like that.
Would any other painters out that be interested in the idea?
I’ve always been interested in this, whether it be on Windows PC, Android, IOS anything really. If we ever got something like this, I think the best way to do it wouldn’t be a full painting scheme but if there was an app to create a vinyl group that’d be incredible and a massive selling point.
I hate the idea of an app to make vinyl groups. That could be based on the several thousands of hours I’ve spent in the vinyl editor since FM3, however. I see no reason to add another way to create vinyl groups than the in-game editor.
As long as the vinyl group creation process (combining manipulated basic shapes) remains the same, I wouldn’t have an issue. It’s people wanting to be able to import “outside” image files that would ruin the established painting process. Today, creating advanced liveries in Forza is a learned skill. Importing image files would completely ruin that skillset.
I support the idea of an external and more accessible painting app. That way, I can better make the designs I want instead of hoping someone who’s good at in-game editor made something I like.
But I can’t do that because of your ego? I don’t think so.
I think the same question could be put to you. Nobody’s ego is stopping you from investing the time and effort in the paint editor that’s required in order to be able to create the type of designs you’d like to see.
What’s with the hostility? So we have a difference of opinion. No reason to get upset about it.
What makes you so sure that a “more accessible painting app” would suit you any better than the current editor? The opinions of what is a good separate app could be just as varied as what is considered a good Forza car pack. I (as in me, as I’m only speaking for myself here) find it to be a lost cause for T10 to even consider an app.
Any app where I can make the image at least 300% larger would help me loads on account of my vision.
& I really don’t care for the statements like “I don’t like the idea, and I say it couldn’t help anybody anyway”. You don’t know what can help who. Nobody said the current was trash because it was too hard. Some people, myself included, would appreciate an editor that is easier to use.
I still use the current one, but I’m limited to what I can do. It’s not T10’s fault, which is why it would be worth looking into to come up with a more accessible program.
When you mention that you wish to make the image at least 300% larger, what do you mean more specifically? In the livery editor, you can zoom in on a car quite a bit using the right joystick (more so in the FM titles than in the FH titles). In the vinyl editor, you can make the images almost indefinitely large, even if you can only see a small section at a time (as would be the case in any editor).
^ This I agree with. Advanced liveries are something that a mere mortal (Like me lol) can appreciate on account of the amount of time the artist has poured into it to create the deep effects. The ability to port over pre made images would ruin that because 2 seconds of porting could create something immense.
On the other flip of the coin, it would be interesting to see what could be done with something like a tablet and stylus, creating brush strokes and brush effects very different to those created by those in the existing system. It has to he said that a drawn out livery would be very different to one made with pre-decided shapes.
I’d be very interested to see something Pez-Artwork inspired.
Call me crazy, but I have a feeling that Turn 10 would never let things get to an app with brush strokes/effects as it’d be so un-Forza-esque (and too much like certain Adobe products). Let the Adobe app style image maps stay in iRacing (players can import entire externally made livery image maps there, or am I misinformed here?).
This topic has come up several times over the years and the general feeling among most painters has always been that an app like this would not be wanted by much of the painting community. Funny to see this post now because this exact topic surfaced a few days ago on Reddit and has been pretty much shot down. There were quite a few reasons why it wouldn’t work … why T10 wouldn’t want to try it … and why the Forza painting community wouldn’t want it.
Thanks for the response. I had a look at the reddit post. I should clarify…what I’m looking for is the existing livery editor made available on a tablet.
The majority complaint on the Reddit thread is the vast difference between raster and vector graphics, which I definitely understand.
But I’m not looking for a new system, just the current system made available outside of my Xbox.
This is what I meant as well. I personally think if you took the “create vinyl” option and copy and pasted it over to a tablet or PC it would make it very accessible to create vinyls away from home and then be able to put said created vinyls on the car when you came back home. Obviously there would have to be no differences in both software’s and then I can’t see any problems.
Sorry, I’m at work reading this on my cell phone so not so easy to type out a lot of text like that. If you’re interested, look for a post about a petition for a Forza tablet painting app on the Forza reddit.
XBox and XBox Live is more or less a sealed ecosystem, Microsoft will never allow downloading any file from an outside source onto your XBox hard-drive.
damn. I hadn’t even considered that, but you’re right.
I was just thinking maybe I could go with a surface for my next tablet with the idea that I can play a win10 platform game so I’d hopefully have access to forza 7 there.
