Hey guys I was just wondering, do you upgrade your cars to the max, or do you try to just “improve” cars with upgrades? Or only very minimally improve them? What upgrades do you tend to go for? I just wanted to get an idea of what others are doing when upgrading cars because I’m really fussy about upgrades in this game (probably my OCD haha) and its actually somewhat distracting me from enjoying the game.
At the moment, my American cars (american racers, retro muscle, classic muscle etc) are all upgraded to B Class by only upgrading handling and gearing to the max alongside slight engine improvements. I’m also so OCD that my my cars MUST only have sport tyres because I think the race tyres look hideous lol.
However, when it comes to things like hot hatches, I tend to feel like I’m upgrading them way too much and they end up as A class cars. Or is it good to upgrade hot hatches that much?
Just want to see what you like doing when it comes to upgrades. Will stop me getting so fussy I hope! lol
I was so glad to read this, I’ve been having the same problem myself. So I recently tried to find a few key upgrades to apply to every car, to save me spending ages tinkering with each one individually. Though I haven’t found a formula yet. I’m always tempted to forget it and just race stock. But I like classics mainly, and some of them are nearly uncontrollable for me without handling upgrades and tyres.
I might just boil it down to race sway bars and suspension, roll cage, and street or sport tyres, and see how I get on. I mostly race offline, by the way, so usually go for feel over exact PI levels.
I play online 90% of the time since SP got boring so my cars are tuned to the max class, I tend to go for handling first and have an idea of what number each class should be, then I use the rest for speed. However the garage numbers arent always accurate so I test the handling in Nice due to the tight circuits and test speed on the runway
I think I might try cars stock like turboteg. I’m just too fussy lol I’d like all my cars to have similar upgrades, but its just not possible as some cars require massive upgrades to feel like they are at the same level of upgrades as the others. Two examples of this are the Alfa Romeo 8C (stock 801) and the Aston Martin Vanquish (stock 808)- to upgrade these to anywhere near 900 PI, you need to put horrible race tyres on, lighten or make the horsepower of the car ridiculous. To me, changing a car this much ruins it and it sends my OCD into overdrive because I feel like the upgrades haven’t been “realistic” or similar to the other cars in the garage.
To me, Forza Horizon games are about collecting cars from a good car roster and then taking them out on the open road to enjoy them as they are meant to be enjoyed. I’ll go to NFS or perhaps Forza Motorsport 6 to upgrade/tune cars.
I have zero stock cars unless I have bought a batch and not got around to upgrading.
In FH2 I usually upgrade each car to the top of a class that is within apporx 2 classes of where it starts eg if it starts in D I may take it to C and B class and then test it. I may go to A as well depending on the car.
I use what I describe as a no wasted PI approach so I do not use flywheel, clutch, brake upgrades, rollcage and often do not upgrade gearbox unless it is totally useless or unless an upgrade is cheap in a PI sense.
I do not upgrade handling only. In A class if its for cross country I usually use sport tyres as that often results in my quickest lap times. I do hanlding upgrades after that and then power. I take off weight but only using the weight reduction - I do not use driveline unless its to top up pi at the end.
EDIT: to answer what do I think - I think the aim is to go quick and therefore I build for that.
As Worm says never use flywheel upgrades! I use weight reduction, race suspension, tire upgrade then power upgrades last, always using exhaust first as it drops a lot of weight but use what works best for you.
