NYC Autoshow

So what do people think of the show so far?
I like the Challenger, even though it is a mild refresh.

And then I, believe it or not, the Kia Sedona, I think it is a handsome minivan, and the best looking one now.

New lower grill and new taillights on the challenger and shacker!

The Challenger hasn’t changed too much. That is a good thing.

Yes. I agree. I like how the new challenger is still kind of boxy and retro and hasn’t changed much from the last one.

I will say I prefer the newer challenger over the Charger… I like the charger, but it really is basically a larger Dart.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! They have ruined it!

I agree with you! Af first view, I said ‘‘what did they do to the Dart’’? I look… Waaaaa… It’s a Charger?!? Outrageous!
At least, it’s agressive…

The new Charger needs to be changed to the Dart replacement and change the name to something other than Dart. Dodge has disgraced the Charger and Dart name IMO. The Challenger looks amazing, but it still is going to be a little bit heavy to keep up with the Camaro (which is also heavy but utilizes magnetic suspension) and the new 2015 Mustang which is much lighter and now doesn’t have the prehistoric rear axle. On the bright side, the Challenger and Camaro have kept their retro looks and are using modern mechanics underneath and in the interior. Love the new muscle car era.

I agree. The should have called it the new Neon. You shouldn’t slap names of 60s classic muscle cars on boring family sedans.

I like that the Super Bee Challenger will make 485 HP, 0-60 in the 4s, and get up to 182MPH, Plus I think the look is spot on, I was concerned that it wouldn’t look as good. As for the Charger, I like it, but I did expect more. Granted it sells pretty good, so I reckon that if they made it look like the Dart, they might sell more of both, or they just shot themselves in the foot, it could swing either way, but what ever, power’s still gonna be there, so I’m pretty happy

The Challenger is looking very nice with the facelift. Almost makes me wish I had held out for this year instead of getting a '14 Shaker. Anyway, I think the Scat Pack upgrades are going to be available aftermarket on current Mopars. The Challenger is really the only one to retain it’s retro-styling. The Mustang looks like a weird love-child between the old Mustang and the Fusion. The Camaro is nice but it is too modern looking. I also like the way that the original Challenger look, looked like the '70 model and the refresh brings in cues from the '71. It’s also nice to see that the Shaker will become an available option as opposed to just a limited run thing.

I’m curious to see the 2015 Camaro when it drops. I hope it goes toward the Corvette styling, but should be interesting. Overall dodge is my favorite over the modern muscle cars, but I like the Camaro for the most part, just not as much.

I don’t live at New York, so I can’t see the Auto Show. No one talked about the Lexus NX; I saw a picture of it! I’m surprised no one is talking about the Alfa Romeo 4C. The brand is coming back to North America soon! I like the new Murano also.

The 4C had a small crowd at the show. Honestly I thought it looked pretty, if toy like (it’s small). I’m more into GT style sports cars since they are easier to live with (think Corvette or 911), but if I had to have a car that size, I’d rather a Cayman or FRS. Sorry, it just doesn’t speak to me.

However, the Toyota FT-1…jaw dropping car. Toyota must build it.

Sorry! Duplicate post! My computer’s lagging!

Triplicate post! Sorry! Computer lagging!

I agree with you. At least, they didn’t change it drasticly… Although, I don’t like the new Charger… It looks bad… like a Dart that went at a plastic surgery!

And then I, believe it or not, the Kia Sedona, I think it is a handsome minivan, and the best looking one now.

And the best looking one now? It wasn’t very hard! Look at all the Minivans and Vans out there! They are all chloroformant! Oh, and Peter Schreyer designed it, so…

That new charger is disgusting… but not surprised considering Fiat owns them now…

further proof that they are slowly killing Chrysler corp little by little, import jeeps, inflated darts, and cartoonish front end on the challenger, not a fan at the design direction of Chrysler corp at all

I was at the show on Wednesday with my girlfriend who is not into cars whatsoever (I’m slowly changing that), and here are my general impressions.

  • There are not that many people over 8ft tall in the world. I tire of having to move almost every seat forward to a comfortable and realistic driving position after the hip hop loving idiots think they look cool laid back.

  • I agree with T10, everyone loves cars and cars are largely emotional in nature. My GF had love at first sight over a Chevy Spark of all things. She liked it’s small size (easy to park), quirky styling, and the fact that it’s a four door instead of a coupe. Shrug

  • Speaking of styling, the Aventador has amazing presence and proportions. I’m still not impressed by the Veyron. It could rival an F-15 in speed, I just don’t care for it.

  • Don’t fully trust car reviews, there are details they never speak of. For instance: the C7 interior is quite nice, as has been reported, but it is smaller in size than my C5. I’ve only seen that reported in forums and can confirm that myself. In the same vein, good god the F-Type has a large door sill. I am now quite curious how stiff the chassis is considering how heavy the car is and how high the door sill still is. It’s not at Corvette C4 levels, but it is noticeable.

  • Demographics are true and quite noticeable. The older crowd hung around the Camrys. Women flocked to the Lexus RX series. Men in their twenties to thirties were around the GT-86 twins, WRX, and Nissan Z. Everyone was around the German marques, supercars, mustang, Camaro, and challenger. Nerds orgasmed over the LFA…at least they sounded excited. The GTR once again gets no love, very few crowds or anything around that car ever. The race cars deserve more respect, racing is obviously not a mainstream sport in this country. And me and my GF laughed at a young couple looking at minivans…the man was holding the woman’s purse and following like a trained dog, very sad.

  • Speaking of family cars, NameleSS (the Chevy SS) gets no love, no one was interested in that car. Nevertheless, if I become a family man, that would be my weapon of choice.

  • The new Mustang does nothing for me from a style standpoint. It’s kind of hard to say, I just don’t like it. …But I didn’t like the 2005 redesign and it grew on me, so we’ll see.

  • The SRT Viper is an utterly gorgeous car. I’m sorry Top Gear, but though Aston Martins are pretty, Vipers are more aggressively proportioned and dynamic. Nor comparison with any other front engine rear drive sports car including the Corvette and F-Type, period.

  • A human being can’t fit in the back of an FRS. My GF is 5’4", she was in back, I was in front. I’ll just say that Ringling Brothers should use them as high performance clown cars.

  • I still laugh when magazines say the Germans have good or upscale interiors. I continue to be unimpressed given the price. The ergonomic choices of several very expensive cars is baffling. Examples can be given if requested

So in short it’s good to see and test cars in person. Magazines or the internet can’t give all the answers.

As sad it is to say, I’m not a fan of the FT-1’s styling. I like the supra, but I don’t like the FT-1, I’m probably one of the few, but oh well, I did say I liked the Kia Sedona. I like the idea of Toyota making an attempt to make itself sporty again, and performance wise I think it would be good, but I wouldn’t get one cause I don’t like its looks.
As for the NISMO GTR, I love it, I like all the NISMO cars they’ve made.
