This is what my 970 is doing in race Screenshot by Lightshot Studders, or the card just stops being used altogether, I have never seen this happen with any game I have ever run on any card. This doesn’t happen when I force SLI on in Nvidia control panel and it run quite smoothly except having a serious texture bug and lighting bugs. To run this game smoothly now I need to either fix my 970s usability ingame, or the game applying native SLI.
Have you checked if there is any unusual disk access when this problem happens??? On my system I have noticed once this happens and I have loads of stuttering the hard drive light is lit up constantly, so i suspect something is really wrong with memory management.
Not sure, Double checked my intensive game catalog and this does not happen anywhere else. If this were a steam game, I would be validating game files right now, but alas, I am not re downloading 20GB over a hunch. But I would venture to guess its a memory problem since it is progressive, the stutters become more of a problem as time goes on and on different tracks. as you can see, it dips to a 0 usage state, at which point the game stops producing frames. What the crap. and like I said, This doesn’t happen with forced SLI, but does happen with single usage of both of my individual cards (I swapped them just to test) But the game is nearly unplayable with SLI and I can get a good session going with a single card to last for a while. but I would classify this as a bug.
That is why I asked, as it is exactly the same that happens on my 4690k@4.2ghz using the 970gtx and just had the idea last night to glance over at HD light when this issue happened and every time it would lit up like that it would lock up the game for a split second or sometimes even for seconds.
Yea, it seems to be a problem with the data, memory usage spikes when the GPU usage dips. at least in task manager. also, I noticed the game makes use of 100% of the first and third CPU cores and about 50% of the second. Never heard of this kind of CPU utilization and I dont know if it may have something to do with the data processing problems because it doesn’t spike to any degree when the problem occurs.
Good luck, they don’t answer support questions in their own support section. It’s like the only new game in the history of ever that does this. One would wonder if they even knew their forum existed despite being directed here at the download page for the game.
Go write a bad review on the MS store, they do reply to some of those.
I was on my way to ask someone where I should post my bugs for the beta, one would assume the forums, but there are no devs in sight and very little mods. Whats the point of an open beta if you aren’t communicating with the players?
Well the MS store directs you to here but if you look at reviews they answer bad reviews there. Devs are never in sight here and haven’t been for years. The mods (I used to be one) can’t help you anymore than you reading a FAQ or something will. That’s something actually done by a mod as well, they get little to no information from Turn 10 and have to dig like you and I would for the most part. About the only time they show up for a moderator is when some streamer or youtuber complains and they want to make the moderating even more of a pain in the ass…usually by returning a pain in the ass to the forum.
How much RAM do you guys have in your systems?
Whenever the GPU Idles it’s because it’s either waiting for the CPU, or waiting for resources.
I’ve noticed that RAM usage increases each time a race is restarted, or if you start a race on a new track. So that a memory leak of some sort.
Too bad you can’t actually check the VRAM usage since Apex instantly reserves as much memory as it can so it just shows up as a giant block that never changes in size.
I have 16gigs of ram which should in theory be more than enough for this game at 1080p. I have also been playing alot even on my 720p hdtv and have the same issues there, so VRAM should really not be a issue either.
I really hope they are not reserving even the last 512megs on our 970gtx, as that will definitely cause issues if it start using that extremely last pool of vram.
VRAM will be an issue regardless of your resolution if the assets aren’t released properly though.
I’ve noticed this with more ports of Xbox One and PS4 games, since they’ve got 8 Gigabytes of shared RAM they can be more indiscriminate with the way the garbage collection is handled.
Almost never works properly on PC though.
I guess this is why they have the beta though haha
No, as I said, max Vram usage is 2700MB a long ways off from 3.5GB and the game runs about 6.4GB of system ram, 16 is enough to run that twice over and a full list of background tasks.
I knew I recognized you as someone important. So this forum is a load of diddly squat. and they don’t really want feedback from their beta testers. 5 years ago I would have been saying that mockingly and sarcastic.
Can I make reference to you telling me this, Not by name but that a former mod on the support forum told me to post a negative review to get the devs attention. This is honestly complete BS, all their articles talk about their community interaction. When they release an Open Beta and neglect everyone participating trying to give them feedback, thats directly avoiding your community. Like me asking for questions for a Q&A, and then I block everyone who responds, what the bloody hell. I have had a flip flop mixed bag of perspective admiration and hate for T-10 ever since FM5, and just when I jump back on thinking they’re learning from their mistakes and also doing some cool stuff that people want (IE: night races, weather, and even a PC port) they go and prove me a fool.
