the syncronization with all the ancillary information, such as gamer pics, tier levels, and whatever else has been implemented is making general browsing painfully slow. the little red spinning circle is everywhere trying to load content from god only knows how many sources and it is bogging down everything when i open up the threads i want to read in their own tabs. it looks pretty though. but has become a huge pain.
is this becasue i’m using firefox?
or is it just slower now?
is it going to get better?
I find Firefox to be bloated and slow. Try Chrome.
If not, trash/reset your cache+cookies associated with forums.forza.net, xbox.com, ect.
Took a few page views to get my browser up to speed, but all user IDs are active now. I’m using Safari.
To answer your question about Forum rank, they have changed. There is no longer a VIP status and the amount of post to achieve a higher status have changed as well. Just keep doing what you’re doing a be involved and don’t worry about your rank. As long as your helping the community, that’s all that matters.
As for the new forums. I like the older ones, too. Even though the look was outdated, these new forums seem even more outdated due to the lack of not being able to customize the layout or anything of what I see. It’s actually turned me off a bit.
It is what it is, people get used to new things eventually.
I wonder how many “casual” users who get the 404 error message on the old forum main page will not bother to find these new forums. Also, Forza 4 and Horizon forum traffic was really slowing down on the old forums and looks pretty s p a r s e so far here. People who are new to Horizon and Forza 4 will not find much here for them, like tuning/painting threads and driving tips. Many of the members who posted those guides have moved on to Forza 5 and have left Forza 4 behind.
I guess if you have Forza 5, you’re in pretty good shape. I mean the they might as well turn the “General Xbox Gaming” forum into a Forza 5 steering wheel forum.
As far as I’m concerned, websites like this are primarily about content and information, in that respect, there’s not much different from the old forums. Maybe a little less, but as a Forza 4 and Horizon player, that’s something I’m getting used to.
I actually like the new layout and design of the forums. The only concerning issue is how slow the pages load up. I’m on 50mbit fios so that’s not the cause. But like the OP mentions, it’s these avatars and driver info that seems to be slowing down the forum experience.
and someone needs to reprogram it so if you make an edit, the “made edit” line needs a line break before the last sentence. So I dont have to use these 2 dots.

I am on 4g using a droid S3 and load times are normal for me (half a second tops? ).
The only thing I don’t like is the lack of customization, for example I’d like to see what the post / view count is before clicking on a thread, and the information next to a post . Changing background and font color / size would be nice. However I can see why for visibility and simplicity’s sake they did it this way.
I also like the fact I can make paragraphs without using HTML coding… and edit my posts even if under moderation (typos and grammatical mistakes bug me).
Thankfully, I am not currently under moderation, but while I was, the non-edit feature was a real bummer when participating in community contests and events. People would post “Spot” to get in before a deadline, then add images at a later date. Under moderation, you couldn’t do that and you never knew when your post would be entered into the thread, sometimes a couple days before the deadline, posts wouldn’t make it.
I guess if you’re being moderated, any input to the forum would be regulated, including edits.
I like these new forums. I wish the font size could be changed though because I feel like I am squinting at my screen that is a foot in front of me to read it. The pictures are also kind of small.
Same here. I already posted in the other thread about the color, but I’ll say it here too. At least it shows they are listening to the feedback and working to improve the forum experience. The larger font is great progress. Now we just need more customization.
I have no problems with the new forums and it loads almost instantly.
you have a problem with one of the follow
internet connection - you may have a slow connection
your using Firefox - use chrome
Personally I use a web browser called Comodo Dragon which is a chromium based web browser so it is very similar to Chrome and it also means that Chrome plug ins work as well.
