No Porsche?

Why can’t there be Porsche in Forza Horizon 2? I know that Honda won’t allow their cars in games with cops in them but whats the deal with Porsche? Why won’t they allow them in Horizon 2?

EA Games has an exclusive licensing contract with Porsche. So Turn 10 would have to license through EA Games and the deal would probably be outrageous. That’s why, same as with Gran Turismo, FH1 included RUF cars as a loophole. I dunno how long their contract with EA is but it’s probably like a 15-year deal, since their first Porsche game was released in 2000, I believe. Unless they continually renew the contract… Hopefully in the next couple years we’ll see Porsche grace the Forza tracks but I doubt EA is gonna let go of the contract easily.

I have a question about this. Is it just people want genuine Porsche cars? Or there aren’t enough RUF options?

I’m genuinely confused. From a driver’s standpoint, RUFs are technically a Porsche… just a “hotter” Porsche  kind of like getting a Ford Mustang vs a Shelby GT500KR right?

Yeah, it’d be nice to drive a Cayman R, but… I personally loved the RUF options that were in Forza Horizon.

It would be more like a Roush 429R or Saleen S302, really. The Shelby’s are built by Ford, and roll off the assembly line that way. RUF buys incomplete cars
and builds them to their own specs, I’m pretty sure.

Either way, I’m 137% sure this topic has been thoroughly beaten to death.

Yes, this messy legal discussion has been beaten to death and the horse was buried long ago but back in 2000 or so, the EA/Porsche lifetime deal was pretty sweet. Porsche Unleashed was really cool (at least the PC version was, the PS version sucked) and back then nobody had any idea that the gaming world would be where it is now. I’d be sure that somewhere in Zuffenhausen, some Porsche advertising execs are slapping their heads over where this ended up over the years.

Right now, all we can hope is that for individual titles Turn 10 sees it being financially viable to get a one-title license per game to make it worth their while because I’m sure it isn’t cheap. Horizon 2 probably doesn’t quite fit that mold, just as Motorsport 5 doesn’t due to it being a release title on XBone. FM4 already had a massive player base on the 360 platform so it was a no-brainer there, the best we can honestly hope for is Turn 10 getting a license for Porsche for FM6 and again releasing it a s a DLC package after launch.

Sorry guys, that’s probably the facts. And yes, dammit, I want my 917 coupe someday too.

Alot of fans of both Gran Turismo and Forza alike want Porsche in their games. Well, Gran Turismo 5 costed about $100 million, the third-most expensive game ever behind GTA IV and GTA V. Adding Porsche in that game (GT5) would be lots of negotiating and expenses. We are lucky that we had Porsches in Forzas 1, 2, 3, and eventually 4. With EA’s exclusive licensing, I highly doubt Porsche will be in any non-NFS or Real Racing (a mobile game series by EA) game for years to come.

This is just my opinion but I think it’s ridiculous that Porsche would sign a deal with EA and allow their cars to be used in an arcade type game such as NFS rather than a Forza simulator game. It is what it is though, money makes the world go around.

As it has already been said, the reason is EA holding exclusivity to Porsche in video games.

Considering the contract started in 2000 when NFS was one of the top driving games it probably seemed great at the time, and who could have foreseen the massive leaps in gaming technology and the huge diversity of video game franchises as they are now?

Anyway, I saw something related to the Porsche licensing dilemma a couple of weeks ago on the Google Play store, where a racing game (I cant remember which) used RWB as a Porsche substitute. As much as I love RUF, the idea of RWB cars in a proper racing sim would be great. Interestingly I’ve yet to see 9ff represented in a video game, which is a shame as their cars are also considered as new models rather than just modified Porsches so they would also be a way to get around EA’s licensing deal.

I wish there was a locked sticky post about this, for every forum section around here…

You know people will keep posting these threads even with a sticky (look at the unicorn threads in the FM4 and FH forums - and a huge chunk of new threads are about unicorns in those forums, not to mention some of the posts in those threads). Maybe an auto ban when using the word Porsche in a post?
Either way people need to drop it - T10 know it’s fans and customers want Porsche, but it doesn’t mean it can change things.

Capital idea!

From hence forth, anyone starting yet another thread about Porsche gets a ban.

Go forth and spread the news amongst all the people.
