It seems to me that this is a bug actually.
The player motor sound is very poor with Hood and Bumper cameras views (first person view).
Fells like I’m driving an Electric Car 
Nothing compared to Chase sounds, i.e. when the car is visible.
I really enjoy playing with Hood and Bumper cameras but honestly, this poor motor sound is ruining my experience.
I’ve tried to customize the audio - reducing all the sounds excepted the player motor one - but it doesn’t work. During the race, it seems that I can hear everything but not the sound of my motor.
Can you please have a look at it?

I’m having the same problem. I feel like I can hear the wind passing by the car, over the engine sound. Very frustrating.
This issue affects certain cars and not every car in the game.
If you’re facing this with every single car then it could be a sound setup or user specific issue. Just a guess.
If specific cars are doing this then go to the Car Issues hub and use the proper format to report the issue. In this case, “weak or muted first person sound”.
