Not sure if this has been posted before, but I can’t be bothered to thumb through 50+ pages of posts in the wish list and all of the other threads to see if anyone else had the same feelings on this.
A little backstory; I was just playing A Class multiplayer in a nearly-full lobby. On the straight leading up to the first turn of Lime Rock Full, I got rear ended and smashed into another driver, spinning him out. He took out a personal vendetta against me and, for the next 5 races after that, he did everything in his power to slow me down/hit me/spin me out any time I drove anywhere close to him. I would try to pass on the outside line during turns (BAC Mono ftw) and he would purposely move into the outside line to block me so I would hit him and/or wreck.
Because situations such as the one I described above are so common, I would really like to see each class have its own “No Collisions” lobby. People in general are painfully terrible at this game and couldn’t stick to their line if their life depended on it. It makes multiplayer matchmaking extremely unenjoyable and borderline unplayable. Having an individual lobby option (or even a separate tab) for no collisions races would make the game a lot more fun, even if T10 only added it in as unranked play (by that I mean no XP or CR rewards).
I’m hopeful that the league system keeps the clowns out. No collisions is fine but it’s missing the edge that overtaking brings. Every single multiplayer race I’ve had has been a mess.
The ‘Introductory League’ in the leagues hoppers was no collisions when I raced it yesterday. The racing was really close but as LevelWarriors says, it’s not quite the same as actual racing.
I do agree with you though in that the normal public lobbies are a total mess. I did a 24 player race around Lime Rock and you can only imagine how that went!
The facility is in the private lobbies options to have timed races with delays between each grid start. Creating lobbies with such settings would help with the first corner pile up at least.
I think that there should be a first lap(or 1st 4 corners) no collisions with races that have more than 16 people. This will weed out all the players who make stupid starts and bad first turns while keeping the better racers towards the front. 24 players is nearly impossible on tracks like Long Beach and Spa where everyone just crashes into the first corner(s). Just my opinion. Maybe even add a timer for it to it will be consistent and not require much more input.
First lap, first 4 corners, or first 45 seconds with no collisions in games with more than 16(or however many) players.
This feature is implemented in GT5/GT6. Makes start of races bearable and weeds out the men from the boys. Also, anyone attempting to ram someone their cars would suddenly become a ghost car and/or receive a 5 second time delay where their car would not be functional. So it is doable.
However, the best aspect is that all multiplayer lobbies are user created. The host would act as moderator, judge and executioner. Booting anyone from the lobby that didn’t comply to set rules. There were a number of great and regular hosts, so you knew which lobbies to enter. But, the most popular ones of course were sometimes difficult to get in.
There are positives for custom lobbies as well as negative just like hoppers. Adding something so basic to what I suggested would make hoppers much more bearable for those who don’t have people online all day to set up a custom lobby. Custom lobbies are great when everyone is on the same page, or communicating, but when you have 12 people in 4 different parties while the host keeps switching car classes, it becomes just as unbearable as hoppers.
I agree, same with Horizon where theres always noobs who don’t know how to race properly, i enjoyed FH1’s No collisions as it made racing so much more fun, you can win based on skill rather than who can bash their way in front.
What I would ask is for some variety in the hoppers for more ghost racing. How about every other class hopper is for ghost racing, and then those are flipped once a month or quarter.
Online racing with all the wreckers in public hoppers is just not fun or even competetive from a fairness perspective. I get that even with all the well meaning suggestions coming from the community that there is unlikely to be “real” fix for this in this edition of Forza. Its probably just too big an issue to try to address post developement.
I like being able to jump into a hopper whenever I want to play and I have finally resigned myself to only racing online with ghosts, and I now have a pretty good time with that, but I want to do something other than introductry C class with those limited tracks. That Class C “introductory” hopper is absolutely full of non “introductory” racers who don’t want to be purposely crashed off the track, so there is no doubt plenty of demand.
Not asking for Turn 10 to reengineer anything, just to acknowledge that given the current state of public hoppers, the only reasonable way to throw a bone to to the real “drivers” is to create or repurpose the hoppers for more ghost racing.
Multiple, multiple, threads on this… Hasnt happened yet…There is always a league ghost hopper that changes weekly though in case you havent noticed that yet… Personally I dont like ghost racing. Its just hotlapping and no real racing involved. No overtaking etc.But I hear ya,wreckers are everywhere and thats the way its been since the begining of online racing.Wont ever change.Just need to learn how to coexist by beating them at their own game.
I know what you are saying, but I refuse to continue to try and play “their” game. Its kind of like arguing with an idiot, sooner or later they bring you down to their idiot level and they are far more practiced at being an idiot.
Waaaaay back in the day, FM2, there were host controlled public lobbies, and that worked. Drive like an idiot, get booted. Don’t like the host, find another or start your own lobby.
Again, I know nothing is going to change with penalties or user hosted public lobbies.
I do think multiplayer ghost racing is different and more fun than just hotlapping or rivals. You are racing with 24 other ghosts, you do feel the pressure of the guy catching up to you, you do push harder on the last lap to try to catch that one guy you’ve been trading places with. You do get a kick out of it when someone blows a turn and you make that pass. Is is better than clean well intentioned drivers in a collision lobby? No, but is it better than being repeatedly crashed within the first 10 seconds of virtually every race? I would argue, yes.
I don’t necessarily want anything taken away from drivers who prefer collison lobbies, I just want a few more ghost lobbies.
Yeah more ghost lobbies would be nice because this current form of “racing” won’t just clean up magically.
Also i hate it when the token poster has to chime in and say that ghost racing isn’t racing, it’s just hot lapping with others. Well, news flash, wrecking and getting even on every lap and being used as a braker for the next hairpin isn’t racing either. With no penalty system people have such small ones that when you make a clean pass even on straights, the one being passed he feels he has to pit maneuver you to stay ahead. Maybe to compensate for his little something. Until T10 can implement a penalty system the only way for running clean laps against online opponents will be ghost mode. So theyshould add more lobbies for that for the time being.
In Forza5 they rotated it around a bit which is probably a good idea. My favorite was always C but diversity is the real way to keep it fresh for others. Ghosts are a nice break from the crashers. It doesn’t have to be like hotlapping either. I typically run lines around others like they weren’t ghosts and I was in a collision lobby and it keeps it pretty racelike and any mistake I make isn’t going to make me feel like a moron who ruined someone else’s race.
