New to Forza, Need some pointers

Hi all,

Like the title says, I’m new to Forza. I know American muscle cars aren’t very good racers compared to the Euro cars, but is there a way to at least make them competitive? I’ve tried trading power for handling in the upgrades and made a little progress, but I’m still getting beat pretty badly. I know my driving needs improving, but any pointers are welcome.

The muscle cars can be very competitive, especially in D through A class. The tune is just as important as the build. Try looking for some tunes on the sharefront until you get more confident in your builds and tunes. There’s some pretty good one’s out there. Try staying down in the lower classes for now to improve your driving skills. Mistakes such as an off or spin can be costly, usually putting you back in last, but the skills you gain in technique and car control will be invaluable when you move up to faster cars.

Yeah I stay pretty much in D class, and everything always goes wrong when I’m braking to go around the first corner and everybody rams me and shoots me off the track.

Yeah, the lobbies can be tough. You might be braking earlier than expected as well. Try spending some time practicing on various tracks that are in the rotation and get your braking points better.

MAKO, is the tuning in Forza 6 about the same as Forza 4?

I may be getting Forza 6 after the 1st of the year.

Muscle cars are harder to drive fast than lighter, but lower powered European sports cars. For lower powered cars, its more about conservation of momentum and being able to carry more speed through the corners. For high powered cars its about making effective use of the additional power. Generally you can carry a higher top speed. The trick is getting the through the turn so you can get back on the power and make the best use of it. You biggest enemy is that you run out of straight before you top out. The only way to make the straight longer is to get your turning down so you can get back on the gas.

In terms of upgrades, make sure you get the differential. I would also favor weight reduction. You’re not going to turn your Chevelle into a Lotus Elan, but it will help across so many dimensions that it’s a no brainer.

Yes Tom, the tuning works about the same as FM4. There are a few subtle differences that I will help you with if you get the game.

In D/C class, Muscle cars are not only competitive, but some of the best cars on certain tracks that play to their strengths. IE tracks that take advantage of their low end acceleration with moderate straight stretches and quick corners. Tracks like the Indy road courses and YAZ variants. There are more, but those are the two that pop out of my head.

They do not do well on courses that require strong lateral G cornering like Lime Rock and the Alps. As an example, the #1 division time on Alps Festival for Muscle cars in C Class is still a full 5 seconds off the top time for that track. They also have too much drag at high speed to compete on the Leaderboards for high speed tracks like Lemans Mulsanne. Leguna Seca seams like a track that would be great for Muscle Cars, but the corners are long enough and fast enough that the smaller C/D class cars carry much more speed out of the corners into the straight stretch than most Muscle cars do. That being said, if you are willing to tune track type specific tunes, they can be very competitive on almost all the tracks you will race in the lobbies.

Ok another question. Is there a way to get in another lobby in the same car class? Example, theres a group of 2-3 people in this lobby deliberately causing crashes and working as a team to block the track. Is there a way to get in another group?

Yeah, just quit the lobby and re-join the same hopper. If there’s another lobby with spaces in it you’ll usually be put into it. If there are several lobbies then repeatedly leaving and re-joining will cycle through them. If you get put straight back into the same lobby then either it’s the only one in that hopper, or the others have no spaces.

It’s a pretty stupid set of hoops to have to jump through to choose a lobby, but someone at T10 seems to think that matchmaking can work in 24-player lobbies and so they chose not to let us see the actual lobbies beforehand.
