Alright so recently I returned to Forza 6 and ran into a big problem: I suck.
I came from Forza 2, 3, and 4 during my nearly year-long absence from Forza 6, and I just can’t get better no matter what I do. On top of that, I’m trying to get better at tuning, but my tuning isn’t good either. Even with better tunes I just can’t keep up even with the noobiest of drivers (to an extent).
It is more of a concern to me since I have actually had quite a lot of experience from the past years, since Forza 2 to be exact. However I never actually turned off one assist (except assisted braking and full suggested line) until Forza 6. I played for months trying to get better at the game in the past too.
I always lock up my brakes despite being without ABS for a long time, I can’t manage oversteer or get good throttle control, I can’t shift at the right time, and I don’t know how to execute proper racing etiquette.
As for tuning, I can apply a base tune, but then I’m lost at what everything else does. So I can’t make a car better if it has issues. I also build them myself but they end up having either too much handling if they’re a power car or they handle rather bad (understeer or massive oversteer) if they’re a grip car. The only reason I care to make my own builds instead of simply downloading them is really just preference. I just hate things like V8s in a Skyline, so I decide to make the build myself. Not to be really competitive, just more enjoyable to use. Since I’m not about winning, more about fun.
So that in mind, I’d like to learn more about tuning.
And yes, I’ve looked over guides before. Stuff like proper etiquette is hard to execute when pressure gets to you easily and you end up smashing the other driver off out of sheer pressure and just hoping you don’t mess up, but you do in the end. I can’t understand what most tuning guides even mean either. I sort of skim through it but I don’t know a lot about cars and what most of the stuff means. Even forza’s basic explanations don’t help either because I get the wrong concept. Ontop of that, I do pick different cars (for the most part), more out of preference just like how I don’t swap V12s into something like a Ford GT.
I know that driver skill and tuning knowledge comes with time and you aren’t instantly a pro, but I need more help to get going on that. Same with tuning, I can’t even understand what most of it really means. I can’t improve without understanding.
And regarding what I said earlier about being here for fun and not for competition, I like to also get the chance to race a good race and not just sit at the back all the time. No fun in that.
If anyone would be willing to help me get better, that’d be greatly appreciated.
Name the car classes (or particular cars would be even better) that you’re most into racing with and then I think it’ll become a lot easier to help you.
Adjusting differential settings will make a big impact to your throttle control situation. Try decreasing the accel percentage low and then practise corners until you can handle bumping the diff up another 5-10% at a time.
Experiencing lots of understeer or oversteer comes down to two main things in my view: unbalanced suspension between front and rear of the car, and camber.
If you can throw some more info on a few particular cars, others will be more up for chipping in with tips in no time.
An example, I made a Ferrari F50 into a partial grip car (60% investment in grip and 40% in power). However it understeers quite a bit and has a lot of wheelspin, mostly exiting the corner. I really am trying to have good builds for all classes but I generally am around B or A class. Sometimes R, but I just download tunes for R - X.
EDIT: Most of my power cars also are underpowered because I need to put some PI into tire width so they don’t slide everywhere.
Some of the reason why my cars are so bad in theory is because I don’t know how to properly judge which car to use at what track.
