[New Drifter] Looking for some help with tunes and just some help overall!

Hey guys, I have just recently picked up a xbox one, and forza 5 yesterday. I have been doing mostly career stuff, and was looking for help as far as starting out as a noob drifter. I have looked at other posts checking and seeing what starter cars are good, 240sx etc. I just need help with tuning and any other information. My Gamertag is NoahsaHorse. Feel free to add me if you want to help me out. As far as it goes (not sure if it means much) but I’m able to bring a Gallardo sideways without a tune in turns. Thanks Guys and gals!

Hey there,

I am happy to help you learn how to tune cars. I have an expansive list of tune setups in the A and S class ranges.

You will need to keep in mind though, tuning cars should be suited to your preference. Getting a tune setup from another driver may not suit your driving style. Some like a stiff setup, some like a soft setup (and so on)

I would be more than happy to recite a tune setup to you, and then drive with you. I would be asking you several questions while we drift together about how the car feels and reacts to your driving style. We can then go into the tuning section and I can walk you through making adjustments to fit your liking.

If you need help learning to drift in general. I like to start up a twitch broadcast and then turn on my telemetry where you can watch my throttle, shifting, braking and steering. The only catch, is I drive in bumper cam. You cannot see my car. This causing a bit of confusion for people as you can’t see how much angle the car is getting or have a great idea of road position. I can do this through a 6th sense from doing this for many years. But others find it a little difficult to comprehend.

Send me a message and I will try to set aside some time to go over all of this with you. My schedule is pretty open from 7pm - 10pm EST during the week. On the weekend my schedule varies, but I spend the mornings drifting if not the rest of the day.

@FizNpop Wow, Okay, that sounds good. Thank You for the help!

Welcome to drifting and to the forums!

I usually would recommend something similar to the C-Class Trueno I use. It’s only got 180hp, but it’s a lot easier to feel what you’re doing wrong (transferring weight at the wrong time, too much e-brake, wrong time to clutch kick etc.) than a car with more power. :3

I completely agree, since you’re so new to forza and drifting I would also highly recommend that you learn the essentials and basics of drifting, tuning only helps you car go a little faster and give it a little more angle, so before you get technical just go out there and learn control. I would suggest the 240sx or like Aero said the AE86, a 350z ,370z, S15. These are all cars that can be easily drifted without tuning or even upgrading have fun out there and welcome to the game and the community.

Also don’t max out your car’s upgrades, 600+hp is just a little over the top even experienced drifters don’t use that much because you can be just as fast with less and have more control

Ah, yeah I had a fully built brz for campaign racing, I figured I’d use a generic youtube tune to see what would happen. Didn’t end well. I’ve been currently messing around with some cars. Been going good

I totally agree with the 2 posts above.

I have 1 minor discrepancy

Tuning doesn’t have to only make your car faster and have more angle. It can be the complete opposite actually. You can take excess angle away or tone down the power with tuning.

I often find myself tuning out the excess angle and making adjustments to have smoother transitions.

Agreed. Tuning has much bigger of an impact in FM5 I find. FM4 tunes didn’t really matter.

One tip I can give is avoid positive rear toe. At first it may seem easy, but avoid it. It will create bad habits.

Little bit of negative toe is cool for stability.

I usually do about -.3 to -.5 toe in the rear.

I have found that the Caster you can put up to 7.0. Helps with recovery and transitions. This paired with a low bump stiffness is nice for holding a drift and recovering. Depends on the car, but I generally go about 3.8 front and 3.3 rear bump stiffness.

Again, it is pretty dependent on the car’s power, weight and wheel base.

What a cool community! I’ve figured instead of looking for people to assist me on learning tunes, I’ve spent a bit of time messing around and i’ve got a decent little build going on. Practice makes perfect
