Need some strategic help on quickstops

So I’ve been gone from forza for about a month and I’ve came back a week ago and learned they’ve put pitstops into the game. I’ve been racing in the modern GT league and we’re required to enter the pitstop at least once. Now the problem is I don’t know exactly when to enter the pitstop. The first “strategy” I did was enter as soon as possible then fight for positions the rest of the race, but that wasn’t effective. Can someone give some helpful advice?

Depends on where you are and how fast compared to the other drivers around that track.

If I’m out front and extending my lead I’ll stay out as long as I can and pit really late. If I’m being held up early in the race I’ll pit early and try to leap-frog the other cars who stop later. If I’m at the front of a snake and it’s me who is holding someone up I’ll stay out as long as they do and try to pit on the same lap or at least the following lap.

If I’m out in the lead or have open track I normally don’t pit until the penultimate lap. If I am held up by one or more cars for a few corners I pit right away to try and undercut them. If I am behind someone but we are both going at roughly the same pace, I follow them into the pits to cover them and try to catch them while our tires aren’t quite warmed up properly.

It all depends on the race itself. I tend to leave it till 2 or 3 laps left. Leave it late ish due to damage being on the later you leave the 1st one the less chance of needing a second.

But if you’re stuck behind a car that you’re faster than it can help to pit n get out with a clear track so you can put your foot down n “pass them in the pits” its also advantageous to do this if you’re at the back of a large field on the first lap with v poor drivers n wreckers in front of you.

But it’s all about the race n remember tyres n breaks r cold so best not to leave it till last lap incase you come out having to defend your place against someone who’s tyres n breaks are perfect.

But the fact that the time of the pit stops themselves vary doesn’t help any sort of strategy really.

If I’m in front and I start to hit lapped traffic I put.

When it comes to when to pit for me, it’s race-by-race. Though even before the race starts, I make a note as to when I am pitting. I may change strategy during race though. It’s also a good idea to note who has pitted around you if you can.
