Nope this is the second time(update) that they haven’t and I’d get used to it because I think this is going to be the norm from now on, not that I like it and I think it’s a really bad move considering.
Nothing apart from telling the lifelong fans this is it for the Forza Motorsport side of things, that and they think that drip feeding content just because it’s a GaaS is going to make things better… along with the removal of many aspects including the Action House so those that turn up late to the failure of a launch now also miss out on the opportunity to purchase FOMO Vehicles
Edit: To add to that is Welcome to the World of Shrinkflation…
Shouldn’t happen in a digital asset but it seems it does and is proven with this installment, the outcome of that is NEGATIVE Reviews that can hurt a digital asset way more than “they” think.
Gone are the days of all that plastic and handling plus percentage to 3rd parties (not including Steam) more the physical stores like GameStop EB Games etc. One would think that since its so much cheaper to deliver without the manufacturering it should be cheaper but alias, Mircosoft is being Mircosoft
I don’t think it’s possible for them to release two tracks per update, as they should focus on doing one environment at a time so that it would look completely new.
Making the track and releasing them are two different things. Its highly likely theres a much smaller group working on tracks at this point so it’d be difficult to make multiple tracks at once. But technically they could release them at the same time.
Maybe the same thing that stopped them from delivering better functional quality, better QoL/UX, better AI, better FRR, more features, more tracks, & more single-player career events on launch day 7+ months ago.
Some decision-makers seem to have decided to structure their delivery approach in a way that does not work well for delivering quantity or quality.
Even “recycling” old tracks that were scanned previously means redoing the environment basically from scratch, as well as adding support for full day-night cycle and varied weather. Not many FM7 tracks had those features (and all of them apart from Sebring are already included in the new game - that could also be the reason why we’re no longer getting a new track every month).
In a nutshell, you. I mean, are you going to pay for it? Stuff costs time and money to make. You want to decrease the time, you gotta up the money. You’re not going to pay for it, and I highly doubt there are enough sales and subscriptions to justify the cost out of pocket.
Turn 10, a first-party studio backed by the most valuable company in the world, has in excess of 200 employees and supposedly took six years of development time for this game. You don’t think they have resources enough to change some of the environment and add a day and night cycle to already existing tracks?
And you don’t think they know well that they desperately need more tracks and would bring them if they could? Perhaps nowadays even 200+ employees is not enough to add a new track every month. Or maybe Microsoft is holding their hand or something
Yup, Gran Turismo 7 launched with solid track roster (thanks to GT Sport coming earlier to take the beating Forza is taking now), but PlayStation players are currently dying of thirst for new track anyway. Two latest tracks were added in February and November 2023. And Polyphony Digital is a 200 people strong studio as well
It’s like the old saying, “you have a choice of good, fast, or cheap. Pick two.”
Good + fast? It won’t be cheap.
Good + cheap? It won’t be fast.
Fast + cheap? It won’t be good.
On second thought, I’m not sure this applies in FM23’s case, as it’s a) objectively not very “good”, b) taken 6+years to get to its current state, so it certainly can’t be considered “fast”, and c) only “cheap” if you played it through Game Pass.
Why is Brands so dark at night then? I don’t remember it being a problem before, only the permanent puddles in the rain.
As for updating the tracks, they could just release some in daytime mode only and add night/weather later, so as to pad the game out. They’ve done it with cars, some are reportedly getting updated from X360,
Problem is though, it doesn’t really work that way. Going from one system using baked lighting to a different system that uses fully dynamic lighting, things that looked good in the old system will look different and in some cases horribly wrong in the new system…with regard to shaders in particular.
If they bring assets into the new dynamic lighting system, they HAVE to work properly (or at least acceptably well enough) in all lighting conditions, there’s no easy way around it.
Fair enough, I don’t understand the technology, just wondering out loud and exposing my ignorance. If we had more and better communication from T10, this forum wouldn’t be full of similar posts and threads; it would be like the old days, where folk were doing stuff in the games rather than complaining.
