Mods in Forza Motorsport 6

Then don’t use it. Problem solved.

Mods give users the ability to customize career as they like. I see no problem with that.

If there’s a mod that reduces the ability of my car, you better believe I’m going to use it. Wouldn’t you since you like a challenge?

If you’re speaking of bonus Cr for using no assists, then yes, the story confirms that there will still be bonuses for this.

The prize spin thing is 100% GOLD, Jerry. GOLD. #bania

I love that they’ve brought this back to Motorsport, as it was a major perk for me in FM4. However: the article doesn’t appear to mention that you’ll earn cars for winning races/series, just for levelling up, which is too bad. And while I don’t fully understand how it works, the “prize selection” system seems pretty nifty; reminds me of countless hours playing GT3, and hitting “X” at just the right time that the silhouette of the car you’re going to win is highlighted. That was an awesome way of awarding prizes, IMO.

The Mods: never have I seen an announcement that left me so happy at one moment, and completely speechless the next. So, now that I’ve slapped myself to wake up and realized I wasn’t just having a bad dream, I’ve regained said speech, and am now going to use it to say:

What in GOD’S NAME are they thinking?!?!?! Fake mod “cards” that boost your car’s performance? In a racing game that’s supposed to be realistic? You know, the one with hydroplaning, advanced physics, and realistic cockpits? I know that Dan has been quoted as saying that T10 loves many games, but borrowing mechanics from a twitch shooter played by 12 year olds for your racing game? Are you freaking KIDDING me?

And now they’ve officially confirmed that “perk packs” (God, I hate that term already), can be purchased, which just leaves me shaking my head. This is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I know, I know: “don’t use them then.” Sorry, but no. Just knowing that this feature exists, well, I think it’s going to water down the experience for me.

Maybe–MAYBE–if they introduce some more realistic perks (if that’s possible) that don’t involve GIVING YOUR CAR EXTRA GRIP FOR NO REASON AT ALL, then I’ll change my tone. Right now, though, I don’t really see what those could be.

Furthermore, the story points out that if you use a mod that toggles off something like traction control, you not only get the usual bonus for turning off the assist, but the bonus from the mod stacks on top of it.

Assists/difficulty controls seem to be unchanged, mods just add another layer or option for the player.

Again, no problem with that at all. Just undecided on whether this is something I will enjoy/use, although the idea of using some to create challenges sounds fun.

Modifiers in some games have created interesting challenges and new ways to play, I’m hoping this might do something similar beyond just the more basic modifications shown so far.

Forza is a game that wants to be whatever the player wants it to be. Don’t like them, don’t use them.

I agree 100%. This is a really stupid idea. How is no collisions a mod anyhow? Sounds like a cheat to me. Forza Motorsport is supposed to be about being a simulator first and foremost. This is arcade s#%t that belongs in Forza Horizon series. Maybe it is time to abandon this series? Should have got a PS4 for Project Cars and upcoming Assetto Corsa.

Turn 10 not happy about arcade features being added to this game. I love Forza Motorsport because it was realistic. Save this dumb crap for Forza Horizon please.

Helios?
2x player reward acceleration VIP on spins will?

Nice to have some more detail about the game but can’t help but feel that this whole mods feature answers a question that nobody was asking…

Not against the prize grid (as this is essentially an adaptation of leveling rewards in previous FM games, gift car etc.), but as someone previously said I’m not too interested in artificial performance boosts (and their impacts) for my cars.

Some of the rewards and dares are fine and dandy, bring 'em on! They add a nice challenge. But the artificial car improvements would fit better with the Horizon series.

Of the mods introduced in the article, it seems that Ghost may prove itself quite useful. Especially if you can combine mods from multiple categories to your advantage - you can race a higher difficulty AI, while using the mod to start in 24th place, and the mod to have no collisions during the first lap and just ghost through all the cars out into 1st place and then hold it…

Credits haven’t been that hard to come by in the past and many players are sitting on multiple millions with nothing to use them on. Mods seem like a good way to stack credits or make lots of money quickly in the beginning but they also seem like a fun or interesting way to spend money once you’re further along in the game with a good bank. They may present fun challenges and ways to play when you play Solo or Free Play with friends locally while giving you something to spend some money on when your garage is full and your cars are all built.

It’s just a shame you can’t play private or custom lobby and opt whether or not you can use Mods online. I think it’d be a nice option to play with a few friends and use Mods - as a challenge, or punishment, or just to see what happens.

Until more info comes out, it looks like a good feature for money making, achievement hunting, and then dust gathering until I find some friends for local play.

Some people just get angry at everything even if it’s optional. The perfeformance upgrades don’t give you extra credits and is good for people who don’t play a lot of racing games. I plan on using the Dare mods such as forced cockpit, and assists off dare mods since they stack the rewards with already having assists off.

Speaking of Mods, here are the associated Achievements there their usage is required:

At least none of this crap will count for lap times and can’t be used in multiplayer, but just having it in the game, cheapens it. All the time spent putting this junk in the game could have been spent on something more useful. Please keep the motorsport franchise more of a sim racer and save this garbage for horizon.

I know my response won’t make any difference, but I feel compelled to say something, just so they don’t think that everyone is fine with the direction they are going.

Agree completely.

Mods remind me of Titanfall. Never cared much for their special cards and they would just pile up and sit there. I might use the ones that boost credits, but I’m not sure how interested I’d be in others. Definitely catering to a more casual gamer though.

I like the idea of prize spins. I really enjoyed the free car options in FM4, but I’m happy enough with the spin feature. With the VIP package and the loyalty stuff, it doesn’t seem like credits are going to be in short supply to buy more cars anyway.

Looks like I’ll be sticking to online racing 15million will be enough to build a few D-S class cars for the hoppers

Some of the dares (like forced cockpit view, start in 24th, no assists, and forced manual/clutch, etc.), if they are used alone (no other mods), shouldn’t be counted as dirty if you ask me. Otherwise, this is a great idea.

At least they probably won’t be available for microtransactions.

Ummm, pretty sure Helios confirmed that this is precisely what they’ll be available for, unless I’m misreading your post.

And while I may have put it more eloquently, I have to agree with L0CK3D. These cheapen the game.

Selling mods back to the game isn’t really a microtransaction but makes me wonder: can we sell cars back? If that’s confirmed I missed it, but that was nice to have.

Yes you can sell cars back to the game.

Yes you can, for a lesser price than what you paid for it originally though.
