missing gear shift animations

Has anyone noticed that when playing as cars with manual transmission the drivatar’s hands dont even move? its very annoying and I cant believe they have not addressed this issue yet. I noticed on some of the cars when you up shift once the animation is there and when you up shift again the hands are stuck to the sterring wheel until you downshift. It even happens when you downshift, the animation wont work till you up shift again and it just keeps happening. Its pathetic how lazy Turn 10 has become. I miss the good old days when Forza 4 was released. At least they showed more effort back then.

This has been highlighted several times, including me as well. The exact same issues you are describing.

I am hoping and dreaming that one day this will all be addressed. Broken cockpit animations should not become an “acceptable thing” in a racing game.

Agreed. This kills some of the immersion for me, every single car with paddle shift or stick shift functionality in this game should be accurate and fast enough on each and every shift. Out of all these updates, come on now T10. Fix it!

i noticed the other day that the hands would not aminate during shift, then after down shifting it started to animate.

Also there is a clear delay between shifting and animation, the car shifts prior to animation being complete in some cars.

The animation should match the shift, even if it is slower in some cars as this is more realistic.

This is a tragically horrid issue I can’t even see the cockpit from the chase view.

They have way bigger things to fix before getting to the shifting animation, and wheel rotation in cockpit.

Most cars with paddles work fine, except for the Audi s3 where the wheel stalks are used instead of the paddles. The Toyota Hilux Arctic trucks also shift with the stalks despite having an automatic transmission as in Horizon 3. I believe the way in which animations are handled by cars appears to be sorted into three categories; H pattern (stick is moved up and down simulating a H pattern format), sequential (as far as I am aware this is the troublesome one, what appears to be happening is the stick is not returning to the neutral position each time it is shifted causing subsequent shifts to be ignored until you change direction), semi auto (paddles), and auto (no animation).

Another issue is some cars are being placed in the wrong category such as some of the classic formula cars being automatic when they clearly have a stick. Or the Plymouth prowler being classified as a sequential when it should be auto or the Toyota Hilux being semi auto when it should be auto.

Two main issues to fix:

  • correct the sequential stick animation
  • place some vehicles into their categories.

If you’ve got spare time look into rev matching the animations so that they don’t fall behind during quick downshifts, they’ll look better in general, like assetto corsa has.

I have noticed a lot of gear animations being completely broken, the worst offender for me is the 1939 mercedes w154 because the driver flails his fingers about as if it has a paddle shifter.
