Just wondering if anyone has any good upgrade/tuning tips for the MINI JCW Buggy, preferably keeping it in B Class.
At maximum difficulty, I’m having a tough time of things, specifically with Coastal Rush Cross Country; I’ve run the car under multiple configs, but regardless of any changes I make, the Unbeatable Drivatars appear to always have the edge in pretty much every category (besting me in launch, accelleration and top speed). My current rig is a B700 AWD setup, utilising Sport parts for the engine, and Race for the rest (I think 0-60 is ~4 sec and top speed ~135 mph, though not 100%). My best time for the event is ~3:20, which normally places me around five sec slower than the winner (I think the worst I’ve seen the AI do is 3:19).
Have beaten all the other Festival Exhibitions (all disciplins), with just Coastal Rush, Glen Rannoch and The Titan remaining in the Cross Country category; not attempted The Titan yet as like to leave the ‘main event’ to last, however following a quick test, Glen Rannoch looks to be problematic also (with the MINI, anyway).
EDIT: maybe worth mentioning that I play with Simulation Damage enabled; while this can have a huge effect on some CC events (unavoidable damge from jumps), thankfully Coastal Rush seems relatively unaffected by it.
Finally managed to take a win (Spring season). Car setup as above, with just one minor modification: slightly reduced tyre width which paid for a Sport > Race flywheel upgrade. Not my fastest time, and I shamelessly took out the lead Drivatar on the penultimate corner (I always lose time after this point); but hey, a win’s a win, right? (on a sidenote, I really wish the MINI had a rearview mirror!)
Next up: Glen Rannoch. From only a few runs, this looks to be a tough nut to crack too; took second place a couple of times, but on each occasion the winner finished ~10 sec ahead! That said, there seem to be a few more locations where the AI don’t take the ideal line, so fingers crossed this won’t be quite the painful experience that Coastal Rush was (also, I think I saw the lead Drivatar screw up once, so there’s always hope…).
These two CC races seem almost like time trials (when using the MINI JCW Buggy, anyway): you have to carefully learn each part of the course and hope that there’re no Drivatars in the way of your perfect line, as often even the slightest deviation will bleed enough speed to deny any chance of a win.
Really hope that The Titan isn’t locked to Offroad Buggies only!
Beat Glen Rannoch a few days back with the Buggy, and cracked The Titan today with the MINI X-Raid (Countryman); the latter event was tough but fair, though I suspect both would’ve been far easier had I a better handle on upgrading/tuning (getting there slowly!).
Couldn’t help but notice that sometimes the AI would perform quite differently at Glen Rannoch; at times the superfast winner was joined by another equally speedy Drivatar, and at other times there were no such opponents, thereby dropping the requirement to win by over 10 seconds! Spotted a similar setup with The Titan; if you end up getting a fast group the difficulty is massively higher, verging on impossible (with my car setup at least). In such cases, it’s best to just leave the event and try again (a simple restart will not do it); and no, this was not just a case of the lead Drivatar messing up, as occasionally happens – I ran both events multiple times to be sure!
Anyway, pleased to have finally ticked off all of the mainland races, with these last few events being by far the toughest; think I’ll give Cross Country a rest for a while!
Just created an account on Forza forums simply to share some words of appreciation for such dedication to a game! It’s really nice to see people still playing this amazing game and share their thoughts on forums. Keep it up! I really enjoyed reading your posts and thoughts about the MINI and racing in general
As for my experience in tuning, I should definitely mention that all tuners almost every time lowering the pressure in the tyres of the vehicles, regardless the class or race type. So try this out, may be it would help you!
I also tried that MINI JCW in CC and it was a complete mess, so I decided to simply change cars and win easily But I enjoy your passion and dedication to a game. With such interest in improving yourself as well as the car, you are going to get amazing times in rivals game mode
Hope to see you at least in the monthly rivals and challenge your time with another beautiful car
Without getting any replies, I did begin to wonder why I was continuing to update this thread but thought, well you never know, someone might find it interesting/useful - very glad you did!
Thanks also for the tip on tyre pressures; and yeah, whenever an event seems super hard it’s usually easiest to just change the car…
