It’s not a “hack” but rather a side-effect of how Turn 10 create track limit boundaries. I won’t bore you with the details other than to say that every Track on an Environment uses the same “dirty lap area”.
A solid tyre wall at Turn 7 would remove the biggest track limit issue with Indianapolis GP but it’s not the only place where going over the white lines results in a clean lap. Unless Turn 10 update the track (not likely) or examine every single lap submitted (also not likely) the rule is going to be “if the game says it’s clean, it’s clean”.
Whether or not you want to add more rules on top of that to “limit yourself to the spirit of competition” is up to you, but people will exploit the track limit issues that Indianapolis GP has because the game says it’s totally fine. That is the definition of playing to win: to take advantage of everything that is allowed.
These track limit issues have been around since Forza Motorsport 6 (possibly even Forza Motorsport 5) so if they’re not “fixed” it’s likely because it cannot be done, or is not a priority compared to the other issues these games have.
Side note:
Indianapolis GP is the only track in Forza Motorsport 7 that is banned from use in my racing club’s sessions. We go by “Forza Clean” track limits (it keeps things fair and simple) but Turn 7 is such an outlier that it warrants not using the track at all. It is the worst “this line should not be clean” corner in the entire game, by a considerable margin.
I have never seen this stated before in any of the Rival Events, however I may have missed it if it was. I guess you’re saying some lap times may be reviewed thru some sort of adjudication process if Mechberg states that Turn 10 deems it necessary. Don’t get me wrong I am 100% for track limits being strictly enforced, and always do my best to adhere to them, even error on the side of caution. That being said, bringing a human element into a hot lapping contest, for judging track limits doesn’t seem like a good idea.
That’s just my 2 cents on this, and like I said I am all for strictly enforced track limits, but if this happens nothing else comes to mind except a HUGE CAN OF WORMS. Any exploits for track limits should already be fixed anyways.
The oval is definitely going to favour those with pedals, the car hits the limiter on each straight a 237mph/381-2 km/h and you immediately lose 6mph/10km/h. Its pretty trick on the pad to roll out just the right amount to keep it a 236, but I did gain a tenth and a half. A low 38 is good for the top 5% as of 11/05.
If anyone is struggling to be smooth in the corners, try pushing the stick forward and then rolling to side and then roll back to the top on the exit.
You want to try to keep the car at 237mph. Front straight doesn’t like 238, but the back straight you can hit 238 for a very short time. I was pulsing the gas as soon as I hit 237/238, I would drop 1-2mph, instead of the 5-7mph when hitting the rev limiter.
Going from a 38.7 to a 38.4 took me at least 40 laps doing this. It is quite difficult to keep an eye on the speed and trying to hit the corners smoothly. Really wish the car had some more straight line speed without interference with the rev limiter.
Day #1-
Oval is horrible with a controller, but I managed a 38.4 (#104). Goal is a 38.3.
GP circuit is alright, but has so much to cut, but managed a 1:09.8(#16). Goal is 1:09.4
Well having just watched the top replay. Two tyre walls get driven straight through and the handbrake is used (quite cleverly I might add) to rotate the car the twice. I’m by no means an Indy expert but I’d be surprised if they came with hand brakes Irl😂kinda sums things up perfectly
I really can’t stand players who exploit video games’ assists or any other exploit to gain an advantage. Was playing leagues last night and one player just nonchalantly cut several corners at COTA West and got to the lead, only to be derailed a lap later by a corner’s tyre barrier
This actually makes me feel a bit better about being 7 seconds off pace when trying a few laps last night. I’m not good by any means, but being that far off with a 1:07 fastest lap time is pretty far.
Yes I agree corner cutting in a race is vile and I wish anyone who does it a slow and painful death … or at least some karma dished out by a tyre wall. However rivals is a bit different, while some wrestle with the moral dilemma, track limits are defined by the game and thus apply to everyone. So either stick to your guns, or if you can’t beat em join em… either way it boils down to a personal choice. The game shouldn’t make us make such a morale decision but it does
