Mandatory podium finish every race?

It’s hilarious to me that Forza Horizon 2, a fictional arcade racer, had a proper points and championship system in it’s career mode and FM6 still cannot do this. It’s hilarious and SAD all at the same time actually.

SERIOUSLY! The Horizon career is much more enjoyable. It lets you race nearly whatever you want: pick your cars, whatever PI you want, AI matched to your choices. Much more flexible and open. Completely and significantly better than the garbage career that is so stagnant in Forza 6.

I’ve gone undefeated so far against unbeatable AI, some races are really hard and one time I may have done a Maldonado on an AI. What I don’t like is the career mode is really limited, you can only drive stipulated cars it seems. Nowhere can I see restrictions other than PI, otherwise I’d build a car to the stipulations myself rather than have the game give me a pile of garbage that I rebuild myself. It’s a shame it’s not really that viable to do career, I earn much better money in Rivals.

Undefeted against Unbeatable AI… I call BS!!! Some career races are 2/3 laps.

That first sector is critical. If you profit there before the lead car runs off into the distance then you have a good chance of catching them. I build my cars to have decent acceleration (such that I pass the AI whilst they get their heavy lumps into their power bands) just so I can profit in the opening carnage, overtaking as many people in and out of turn 1. The AI prefer power and they have seriously warped levels of grip. I witnessed an AI Merc SLK take turn 4 at Sebring like an F1 car, completely on the inside and was on rails. I have a clip of it as I was so shocked. Hence, they are so hard to beat. I’m sure if they were given leaderboard cars then they’ll be doing top 10s. It’s a good job the game gives you mods and consumables as without them they really would be unbeatable. The AI on this difficulty as I’ve seen basically have their own physics so there’s no shame in using these game mods.

I await to see what they’re like in race spec cars as then the tune becomes more critical than the build and maybe I’ll have more of an advantage (or less of a disadvantage, whichever way you see it.)

And they say you can’t win a race in the first corner…

Why do we need to open up collectible card packs to gain buffs and perks and accept quests for bonus XP in a driving / motorsports / racing game?

What a poor response to all the requests for qualifying laps that have been asked for by this community for years.

I’ll bet the requests for qualifying to improve grid position are “in the database” alongside all the other unfulfilled requests.

But it’s OK since we have collectible cards in our driving game now, which was a hotly requested feature.

This. Had alot of fun with this system, if I had enough points then in the last race I didnt need to try too hard and could just basically cruise in the race not caring if I was a low position.

I found Horizon to be better than Forza Motorsport. it is just that you can tool around in Horizon, and race in Motorsports… I don’t find it that much better… and like someone sasid about Gran Turismo youi have to come in first!!!

The required podium finish is the one aspect of the career mode I don’t like. It forces me to drive like an aggressive jerk in the beginning just to get away from the herd. I have really tried to improve my driving and race cleaner, but it isn’t possible in a 3 lap race with a gaggle of non-competitors holding me back while the leader races off into the sunset. I try to run a clean race after I pass the seventh position car or so.

On a side / comical note, I wonder how my driveatar behaves online. Does he race clean or dirty? Or is he a schizophrenic that gives one car a wide berth and ruthlessly smashes the next one off the track…

LOL!!!

I’ve seen that too, only then to have the next corner be an easy kink and have them slam on their brakes halfway through the corner while I’m full on the gas only to rear end them and have me go flying off the track.

I guess the game is over for me, then, at least in career mode.
I’m an older guy who doesn’t have all that nimble gaming dexterity anymore despite that fact I’ve been a gamer since 1980.
I’m stuck on some track I just can’t pass, no matter what, with a super fast car that doesn’t like to stay on the road no matter how gentle I apply the gas or brake. I can’t afford another car to try, have no other cars in that class, and I’ve already set all the adjustments to “you’re old and a really terrible driver” mode.
On the other tracks, I did relatively ok. I would try and try and eventually pass, just not this one, with so many sharp curves. Bad thing about setting the drivatars to low is that they constantly run into me.
I agree that being forced to finish top 3 in every race is plain stupid. I’m sure every driver has that one track they really just hate. I wish they would change this. In the mean time, I guess I will shelf this game, which will be hard to do since I have the whole XBox One Forza bundle.

I actually enjoy the career mode. Yes, it’s not fm4 but it’s still entertaining. But to get on topic I very much dislike having to get a podium finish to advance, it should be 1st place or nothing.

I did the whole career in Forza 5 with AI set to unbeatable. I can’t do that with Forza 6. The AI seem to be faster… or I’ve gotten worse from playing Horizon 2 for the last year exclusively. That arcade stuff screws you up for more ‘realistic’ physics like in FM. Maybe it’ll just take some time to get used to it. But I really believe the AI are faster now. So I have lowered the AI difficulty to Pro or just below that. On some tracks I can still have the AI on unbeatable, the Alps, Prague, and Road Atlanta. Other than that, especially on the new tracks, I need a little help.

It’s not doom and gloom at all!

There is some decent money to be earned doing Rivals. Not only do you earn cash from doing laps and beating people, etc, but you earn decent XP too which goes towards your levels. Affinity levels also help and you get small cash prizes with each Affinity level.

I hope this can give you the longevity you’re after.

I play with no assists and unbeatable drivatar difficulty and have never finished outside of the top 5. I consider myself to be very good, and in the end picking the right car and taking the right lines is how you win.

You have options, beyond just doing rival and showcases to earn cash. If you go into career mode (via the Go Race tab of the main menu) and pick Stories of Motorsport, you can restart whatever current series you are in and pick a different car category. You might have to redo a few races (not sure, the only I did this was the first of a series), but obviously it couldn’t be more than five.

As someone who also doesn’t have the reflexes he used to, can I ask what track/ car combo is giving you the problems?

I take a lot of joy in doing rivals mode.

Pick whatever car you like, set it up how you like, choose any track you like, drive for as long as you like with no care about another driver, artificial or real, ruining your drive.

Just enjoy the purity of driving the car. This is how I spend the majority of my time in Forza games these days.

I do enjoy racing against other cars, but Turn 10 design choices can make this often frustrating for many reasons. I just breathe out and switch over to rivals.

I’m in a McLaren P1. I only have that car because I won in the “spin” lottery thing it gives you when you level up.
Grand Touring Volume Pure Motorsport Showdown, Yas Marina Circuit. The highest I can complete is 4th place and I only did that once out of many tries. The other cars are just so far ahead on the track that there is no way for me to catch up. That stock P1 is all over the place, it doesn’t matter how gentle I gas or hold or pump the brakes. It’s pretty frustrating seeing all the drivatars stay on the road and they are at the lowest difficulty settings and I keep mowing the lawn and moving stacks of tires. You’d think with such and expensive car, it would cling to the track better than it does.
The last Forza I played was Forza 3, which I loved. I spent a lot of time there painting my cars and making designs.
Another gripe I have about Forza 6 is that my favorite car brand, Porsche, isn’t in it at all. Had I known that, from the beginning, I most likely would have avoided Forza 6. I just love those cars and their history.
