I’m really hoping that the career will be a worthwhile experience instead of the drudge from FM5.
In FM5 you’d enter a typical league such as ‘Middle GT’ Jez Clarkson would give you the spiel on the cars available for this league such as for this one Viper ACR, Ferrari 360S and Lambo Diablo and wax lyrical about how good these cars are and you’d need a change of underwear etc. basically these are well known thoroughbreds.
Then when you pick a car and go to enter the race (eg. Viper ACR) you’re presented with the bizarre claim that your car is not good enough to enter this race do you want to upgrade by another 200 points to be competitive. WTF, what is the point of that it won’t be the same freaking car, I want to race the car of its day against likewise competitors not some monster creation of rocket cars that have little resemblance to the real things.
Not only was FM5 career boring with no substance it was also just a dull grind of souped up racing cars not resembling the real world ones. Please in FM6 as well as having a fleshed out career with substance can we also have the option to run against non upgraded cars a’la FM4.
I too don’t like upgrading the cars, but upgrading parts is a MASSIVE demographic for FORZA players. Having the option for a stock career would be nice.
Hopefully it will be more in line with Forza Horizon 2, in which the PI of the competition would balance to the car you bring in, whether it’s upgraded or not.
Upside to upgrading in FM5 was it meant that you’d always have a grid of the relevant cars in the series. Try racing in the Lamborghini Jalpa stock in FH2 for instance and you’ll just have a full grid of Jalpas. Same with the Porsche Carerra GT. But yeah, it’s silly having iconic racecars in the game with authentic stats, if the career revolves around chucking arbitrary upgrades on top of them.
I would love a stock career. I love driving cars without upgrades and even when I do upgrade them it’s nothing major, usually just better tires and race brakes. Would love to have forza horizon 2’s AI car systems as I felt it gave great freedom to race stock cars or test it some custom racing monsters. I loved forza 3’s career mode and I really miss it and I hope they allow you to select a different car before a race. I was doing the S class championship in an Agera when Long Beach popped up and I really wanted to change to my formula Ford but I didn’t because by the time you exit then re enter every loading screen, the fun has been taken out of it.
I quite enjoy upgrading so that part didn’t bother me about 5, although sometimes it is nice to be able to race a collection of “stock” cars.
For me the biggest problem with 5s career is you couldn’t change cars quickly and easily between races like you could in 4. I really hope they address that in 6 because I enjoy driving a variety of things or changing cars depending on the track. Waiting through even more loading screens because you have to exit out to get to car selection, and then go back in to career, was no fun.
I had two main complaints about career mode in forza 5. the whole forced upgrading thing, and the drivatars. I think because of this they allowed you to get gold at third place, which really made no sense to me at all.
I would rather race against an AI and get first for gold, but that’s just me.
The reason behind that was that you were never intended to get first place. They intentionally started you at the back to fight forward, and the fight was the goal rather than first place being the goal. Once you’ve reached the front, you’re just killing time not accomplishing anything. In reality, the best drivers often don’t finish first, but somehow in gaming we’ve decided first is the only respectable result and second is shameful.
that may be fine for most, however when I race, I race to win. anything short of 1st is a failure and I spend more time redoing races to get first than to accept a 2nd or 3rd place gold. you know what they say, old habits die hard.
There was an easy fix for this and I’ve no idea why they didn’t utilise it throughout career. Each series should be points based with the total over the series determining finishing position (gold, silver etc). Not essential (or even realistic) to win every event and a truer reflection of motorsport. To have every race as a stand alone do or die event isn’t necessary in career. We’ll have to see if they’ve changed things up for 6.
That is the main reason i quit playing Forza. You do NOT get in a car, on a race track, for the chance to just finish in the top three. You race to win. Because turn 10 has decided that i shouldn’t win, i have decided not to spend my money with them.
I realize due to the massive amount of content in this game, that putting a qualification lap in is tough. Should it be there, yes. Will it ever happen, doubtful. I feel like if you were to put Project Cars and Forza into one game. It would be Perfect. However, we as gamer have to settle for less.
Why not just lower the difficulty then. It’s easy to win with the difficulty lowered.
I usually get crushed by my online friends so I set my difficulty all the way up so that their drivitars are hard to beat offline. I end up winning some races but will often finish 2nd or 3rd and feel it quite an accomplishment to drive through a field of super fast guys and finish on the podium. In real life racing - or online (depending who you are racing) its extremely difficult to win. You just can’t win every race. Forza 5 seems to have been set up to allow you a more realistic experience yet not rob the achievement hunters by giving you a gold 3rd. But if you want to feel like a powerhouse racer - just lower the difficulty.
To be honest I liked the careers from Forza 2 and 3. I felt 4 just repeated and repeated and there were way too many events to complete and Forza 5 was an improvements but the AI was the most annoying when the cars were meant to be more like other users when in fact they just brake tested you, rammed you on the first corner or didn’t take a corner at all. Forza 6 sounds great, plenty of tracks, for me it has Lambo’s and a nissan 350Z (fairlady) so i’m happy. All I need now is physical release and i’m sure the career mode will be pretty good from what they’ve learnt over the last few years.
