Latest Topgear UK star in a reasonably priced sports car challenge

When forza 6 was released many moons ago they had a replica Vauxhaul Astra Topgear edition which was a replica for the car the guests drive in the show. This allowed players to essentially run a lap as if they were on the show and compare laptimes, i think there might have even been a rivals challenge originally too but can’t remember.

This season they’ve switched to a Toyota GT86 and whilst one could try using a stock GT86 in the game the one on the show has had a few modifications such as weight reduction and a rollcage.

Has anyone done any research into whether Topgear have released any technical info about the guest car and whether it’s possible to replicate a similar car in the game with the right combo of upgrades to yet again allow players to run a lap as if they were on the show and compare laptimes? I’d imagine key things to know would be final weight, tyre width and similar minor alterations that might have been done.

Better yet, T10 have you thought about adding a Topgear flavour of the car similar to what was done with the Vauxhaul Astra and/or rival challenge for players? Or have the arrangements with Topgear been severed since “that incident” and were unlikely to see any Topgear related tie-ins in the foreseeable future?

This is my opinion.

Top Gear “pre-incident” was a global phenomenon, one of the most watched and most pirated shows on TV. Since “the-incident”, turn10 have severed ties with Jeremy Clarkson specifically, and Richard Hammond and James May informally after they quit working for the BBC. Also, the first season of top gear without the trio was essentially a disaster and drove away many viewers who gave the show the benefit of the doubt. It is also more difficult to get top gear legally outside of the U.K. once again without paying exorbitantly high prices.

Meanwhile the Grand Tour on Amazon Prime was pretty good, but not as good as old Top Gear was when it was at its best. This created another outlet for top gear viewers to get their fill of “Carmedy” outside of the BBC.

Turn10 will probably cut ties with both brands now because there is not enough notoriety between either of them anymore to merit a partnership. That is, once again, my opinion.

I have heard that this season of new top gear is doing much better though, just haven’t watched any myself.

If it frees up a track slot for something more interesting and relevant in the motoring world, all the better. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re most likely looking at:

  • Weight Reduction - Race
  • Roll Cage - Race
  • Tyres - Street (or Stock)

Thanks PJ, whilst it’s still a little vague something is better than nothing

Based on a quick fiddle in FM6 it seems simply adding the full rollcage and first weight reduction upgrade to a stock GT86 gives an outcome which matches what that article describes - it’s a touch over its factory weight. Doing any further weight reduction drops it by quite a bit, 200lb or so which rules that out. As for tyres they aren’t mentioned so the assumption is to leave them stock.

Running a test lap with this configuration from stand-still seems to give a comparable result laptime wise, albeit i smash the fastest guest time by several seconds but well, they’ve had pretty slow guests this season and i’m sure it’s easier in the virtual world compared to real life… so personally i think this is a “good enough” replica, cheers!
