One thing im not a fan of in the Horizon games are the landings after a jump.
More often than not, landings cause your car to nose dive, front (one side tyre landing) causing your car to roll & in Career Mode you are constantly rewinding, or in Multiplayer you end up in last place.
What I would like to see in FH4 is an option where you can control/adjust your car’s flight pitch in mid air & to try & make a good landing like in GTA5.
Nothing worse than leading the race (which doesn’t happen to me much) in multiplayer & having a jump just before the end of the race & crashing.
I think you just need to plan your takeoffs a bit more carefully. Slow down if necessary and line it up so you’re taking off balanced. Occasionally a jump results in a crash, but I wouldn’t say it’s more often than not. The game’s map is designed to accommodate jumps, but you still need to exercise caution just like you do when going into a curve. As it is I think there’s a good balance between sim and arcade aspects. Controlling the car in mid-air would be a step too far towards the arcade end of the spectrum.
One thing I would appreciate though, is if you are rolling after a bad landing, if the physics could be adjusted so you come to a rest more quickly. Sometimes it seems like moon gravity if you’re rolling and it takes forever to come to a rest and get reset.
I would suggest planning whats ahead of you better, you will become a better driver for it.
Having a “mid air control” breaks the immersion of the game in my opinion. Yes, its not a full sim game but there has to be some form of difficulty curve to it.
Also, try jumping a car in real life. The heavier part of the car will tilt towards the ground sooner due to gravity. Oh, and you wont have much mid air control either
Like has been said, adjusting midair orientation isn’t something that would really fit any of the Forza games. Sure, Forza (especially Horizon) is a fairly casual simcade racer, but it generally has reasonably realistic vehicle handling (which is why I like it) and such a feature would push it a bit too far into arcade territory.
What I would suggest to get more comfortable on the jumps is first to use vehicles with appropriate offroad suspension and tunes (regular cars with road suspension are nearly impossible to reliably control on those offroad races), start with slower vehicles, and practice, practice, practice. Trophy trucks might be a bit on the fast side, but they’re one of the few vehicle types legitimately designed to handle crazy jumps so that might be a good place to start practicing in terms of lining up for jumps.
Personally, if I know I’m going to be driving a vehicle anywhere near jumps (which are usually offroad anyways), I’ll throw rally suspension (and AWD for less spinouts on dirt) on it and soften it up so it’s not bounced around quite so much and is easier to line up for the big jumps.
However, I do agree that extreme offroad races with lots of jumps are more annoying than not and that they were far too prevalent in FH3. Hopefully they’ll be toned down in FH4 (especially in terms of ridiculous jumps).
