It's Day 3 and I have some questions...

I just got the game and I have a couple of quick questions for you Forza pros. I can’t seem to find the info in game:

  • Is there a way to mute all players all the time online? I have a kid in the room when I play and you never know when someone is going just yell some obscenities abruptly.
  • It seems that, at least for D class races, it’s “play these cars or lose.” (For D class, it seems the best is the '65 Mini Cooper, for example.) Is there any hopper I can join where all cars have a shot at winning?
  • Does turning off things like assisted turning/braking make you more competitive?
  • What does simulation level damage actually do? I have it turned on and even when I drive straight into walls or flip, nothing seems to change.

  3. It’s supposed to brake your car to the point it becomes undrivable, if you are not suffering damage you either haven’t turned it on, or there is something wrong with your game. In online racing it resets to the default no damage settings, maybe thats what you are talking about.

2)Not really. If you want good tunes just search in the load tune area
3)There is another thread on here called *Guide to becoming a top driver. It has some very useful info in there and the comments make it a great read all the way thru.
4)Simulation damage is not turned on while in online hoppers. Its only on in career mode and private lobbies where you have invited your friends in. Your game is not broke if you are racing online hoppers that is how it is supposed to be

  1. You can start your own xbox live party chat and only hear people in the party with you. You won’t hear annoying people in game chat when you’re in party chat.

  2. Cars in D class like the mini Cooper are know as “leaderboard” cars. Cars that are overpowered in that class and are at the top of the fastest times on most tracks. Every class has them and it can be an annoyance when that’s all everyone in the lobby uses to try a d get a cheap easy win.

  3. Turning off assists can make you faster but It’s harder to get used to. Traction control and abs off might be a bit frustrating at first.

  4. Simulation damage does not apply in the multiplayer online as it is only cosmetic online. If you do career mode or race in single player mode or rivals and you use simulation your tires and gas wear down after awhile. If you shift your transmission at the wrong time you can damage it. Crashing into a wall head on will near total your car, however in multiplayer only cosmetic damage is on.

This is only partially true. It may be true of public games, but I only do private multiplayer with a friend and we have full damage. We’ve crippled our cars on occasion.

For the language you can go into settings and select friends only communication so all you will hear are the people on your friends list. FYI this setting will be for all games on Xbox Live and you have to change it back in the settings to change it back to everyone.

Welcome to Forza and to the forums!

You’ll get a lot of help around here, but you’ll see a lot of off-the-cuff comments which may, or may not, be true… or will fall somewhere in-between.

I’ll address two of your questions:

  1. For each track in each class, you’ll generally find a few cars that are best-suited for that combination. However, there is plenty of variety. For example, in D-Class, I just took a quick look through the leader-boards - here is a list of cars which appear in the Top-10 positions (in alpha order):

So, while you’re correct in that you will see a lot of people using the Mini, and it does perform well at some tracks, by no means is it some type of “always win against everybody everywhere” car.

Note: And that’s just cars that hit Top-10 times… expand to Top-20 or Top-50 and you’ll see plenty more.

  1. Yes, you can go much faster by turning off assisted turning and braking. As you progress, turning off other assists such as STM / TCS / ABS will give varying levels of improvement, as well as switching from Auto-transmission to Manual and then Manual+Clutch. Depending on car / track / build / tune combinations, some or all of the assists will be detrimental or beneficial. It takes a while to get to know.

  1. As you race you will make friends with like drivers. I have found that when we have a few of us on we go create a private lobby. In a private lobby to can modify the settings to only include certain cars, For example you can set it to D-Class Japanese and won’t see a single mini.

Not sure why people are saying no for #2 question. C and B class are wide open in terms of competitiveness. Heck I even have that merc suv running podiums on a handful of tracks.

When I started off I used to only run D and you don’t need a mini to do good. The only problem is the mini is the best driving D class car and is more of a crutch than anything. Same goes for the C class Mugen Civic. Historically cars that handle excellent but also put up great laps become the most used cars.

However, since it seems you are new it will be a tough uphill battle to be original online and competitive. In the mean time, check out the tuning section of these forums for well tuned cars. Trust me, these cars will help. I know my skills improved dramatically when I discovered that section of the forums back in FM2.
