It might be difficult for the devs to comprehend but not everyone can afford wheels

This game has been getting more and more difficult to play unless you use a good steering wheel and that is not fair to a lot of people who simply can’t afford a decent wheel or any wheel at all that will work with these games. Maybe the devs could wake up and make it a more level playing field so people who are stuck using a controller or keyboard and mouse can have comparable handling as those who are using steering wheel setups. This isn’t an unreasonable ask I don’t think especially since this series is primarily used on consoles, if this is too difficult for the devs to figure out then maybe get some competent devs who are willing to do something for ALL the players instead of just the elite players.

FH4 is better on controller than wheel.

I was about to say, most discourse I see is that people find it tragically difficult to play Forza with a wheel.

Personally I can drive pretty well with a wheel in most game modes, but as soon as Cross Country is involved I’m switching to gamepad.

Not made for a wheel.

You should search the message board about wheels support in FH4, because it is overwhelmingly negative. Hell, I have a G27 wheel and have not even tried to hook it up to this game because of all of the negative feedback on wheel support. I drive with the keyboard, and that is actually surprisingly good once you get the hang of it.

Yes, if you try to play this game on an older wheel it is going to be bad which is why I mentioned DECENT wheels like the G920/923 or Fanatec. You can’t expect a wheel made in 2010 to work good on a game made in 2018.

Nobody said older wheels, we said wheels.

It’s easier on a controller it does not matter what wheel you use. It was designed mainly for controller. There are a few players who can use a wheel well but it is far from the norm.

If you don’t use the proper settings for the wheel then you are correct but once you set the wheel up the correct way, as long as you are using a decent wheel then the racing will be better than with a controller except for drag races or anything with almost no cornering.

Surely you’re trolling us right? Or is there a group consensus to bad mouth the developers? Or are you just running out of things to complain about?

I am not a troll and I am not a sheep who goes along with a group consensus. I am just simply voicing my opinion on this game and if that happens to be negative towards the devs then oh well. If they would actually listen to the players or fix issues then I wouldn’t have a negative view of them. Your comment however has nothing to do wit the topic of this post so maybe you can go troll elsewhere.

So you’re unique? Like a snowflake?

FH4 far easier on controllers (Even easier on an elite)

In my experience, both Motorsport and Horizon series have remained the most controller friendly racing games on the XBOX. In fact, it’s always been a major draw of the series for me, and is conversely often a major point of contention when I try other racing games.

I’ve got a G920 wheel. It works great with Dirt 4 and 5 but not with Horizon 3 or 4. For me it’s okay on Horizon until the car starts sliding. Then it seems the game doesn’t know what to do and the car can go out of control. With a controller when the car starts sliding it’s a lot more controllable.

To the OP. Do you actually own multiple wheels, have you tested it or are you just bored and putting stuff on the internet for responses?

Forza Horizon 4 and previous versions have always been significantly more challenging with a wheel. I’ve owned multiple Logitech and Fanatec wheels and I can speak from direct experience. I also have used regular controllers, elite controllers and third-party controllers. There’s absolutely no way that using a wheel makes the game easier or better to play. I prefer to use a wheel, but when it comes to a drift event I immediately pick up the controller as the game has always struggled with catching slides and driving like a madman using a wheel. If it’s off-road I also often pick up a controller. This is not a consensus or personal opinion, this is just how the game plays. People that play a lot and have used multiple input devices know this. Your question seems to be awry and you’ve wasted everyone’s time here.

I haven’t signed in here in weeks but I had to when I read this.

What a ridiculous take. If you’re having trouble using a wheel, it’s unlikely that a newer/more expensive one will help you. This game is much easier for most people with a controller which just so happens to be included with your console.

Bottom line is that if you’re struggling to drive with a controller and appropriate assists, I absolutely guarantee that even the best £1000+ Direct Drive wheel will not save your driving ability.

You’re joking right? The Forza games (Motorsport included) tailor to gamepad users. They even admit to it by bragging about their “voodoo algorithm” for the gamepad. The buffer and assists you get with the gamepad give you a clear advantage over a wheel. This post just sounds like you can’t win a race.

How the hell do we disable this?

Steering “simulation” is necessary - or at least desirable - to give drift cars enough kick. But if you have telemetry up, even with steering set to simulation, the game prevents you from attaining full steering lock at speed / under full throttle. Forza however does not provide any predictability to how and when it alters the dynamic steering range so the same thumbstick motion produces wildly varying degrees of steering lock as you try to bring a sliding car under control - usually resulting in a spin.

IDK if using a real wheel overrides this, but with the controller - the ‘simulation steering’ difficulty setting in FH4 seems to be a trap, and my hat off to anyone who can use it successfully.

Simulation steering should not be used with a game pad. It gives wheel users a little more detail and response, but if anybody bumps you in a race, you will not recover from it. I use it in Motorsport for Rivals races, but turn it off in MP.
