It ain't no Forza! And it never will be

I just installed Assetto Corsa, played it for about an hour. It ain’t Forza, it’s not even close. Forza is the best racing game ever. Always will be. Period.

Thanks for the considered review.

Asseto Corsa is a true racing sim, this is not so yea this is more fun. Just more fun not more realistic

I found AC not too bad for a first time on console. Kinda tough racing with a controller though and the absence of private lobbies is a big negative for me. All in all I suppose it depends on what each one requires from the game [fun vs sim]. For me, I agree, it’s just not Forza. Even my wife agrees [after listening to me yelling]. LOL

Got it for $20 PC long ago. Haven’t messed much with it. A good effort by an obscure game company. Wasn’t much to it back then, I assume they added all the pay DLC for the console version. Unless you want a sim racer I would say stick with fun Forza. iRacing looks way more substantial than AC if you are a rich guy. I’ve only seen some youtube videos. Be nice if that was ported over to console but consoles may not be able to handle it unfortunately but you never know.

Just a few things I noticed in an hour of play. A real sim alright, I like the way the cars behind you hover over the track. If you use the braking line, you can stop in the middle of a turn and it is still red. The graphics aren’t as nice. The feedback at the controller lacks. There is probably more but I only played for an hour.

Oh yeah, the AI will smash you right off the track.

so for us who use controller you would not recommend AC ezrae?

It’s just another cheap shot at simulation, which Project CARS tried and failed miserably at. Forza Motorsport rules, period! But with that in mind, F1 2016, released on 8/19 is fantastic and does a good job on the handling physics that no other game has been successful at doing when compared to Forza Motorsport.

Well, although there is a clutch setting in the assist settings. it’s auto or off. Not sure what that means, as there is no clutch button mapped in the controller settings. It is like the steering on Forza when you use Sim setting. But it lacks feel at the controller.

I don’t know I like games I can play. Microsoft Studios and T-10 do a great job in providing me with that. They really do make games fun. If a game is not fun for me I tend not to play it. Besides, I really do like the way T-10 gets involved. When they make special events, it always gives me something to do. Even if it’s a special livery or a car, I really enjoy it. I will never forget what Triton did for me, What he tried to do for all of us. He really opened my eyes, I will never forget it, ever…

Assetto Corsa is a horrible “game”, its a great driving simulator. Its literally the yin to forzas yan. Being a simulator i would never reccomend anyone get it unless they had a wheel where as i would never reccomend anyone buy a wheel for forza.

Its baron of any and all options most racing games come with today. Everything about driving the car is realistic, if you dont have a clutch pedal you dont have the option to use the clutch plain and simple.

It fails at everything other than driving, tracks and most of the sounds are pretty good. Graphics of the cars interior and exterior are acceptable but everything else is not up to par with forza.

My honest opinion on the matter would be if you own a wheel, wait a couple of months till certain thinhs are fixed or refined and for it to go on sale. Its not worth the money right now, i dont regret buying it because i knew what i was getting and i would like to see them have some success in the console space to continue to support it.

If you want a realistic fun racing game forza wins hands down. If you want one of the best driving simulators choose assetto corsa. I cant believe im going to say this because im not really a fan but pcars is probably the perfect balance between the 2. The physics arent as good as assetto but it does offer many game options most console players are accustomed to. It is more realistic than forza when it comes to physics, ffb and race day options, it also has dynamic weather and time of day.

Its actually a great time for racing fans because in the past 30 years ive been gaming i cant remember a time when this many quality(for the most part) options are available on consoles.

First honest post after all the XBox / Forza fanboys.

Thanks!

The funny thing here on the forzamotorsport forums is, you write ONE post about something really bad in Forza and the whole thread instantly gets deleted or locked (with the ‘thanks for your feedback’ message), or they will ban you right away …

But on the other hand you can write the biggest nonsense !!! about other racing games and nobody cares ( AC here, or even worst … the PC thread ).

I think the mods are actually pretty lenient for the most part i think it depends on the topic and how many times its been brought up. Theres a lot of things people rehash over and over without ever searching for it first.

I have to be honest and say over the past 2-3 years most of my posts definitely bring up more negative points than positive but i believe as long as a negative post has some merit and its not just a rant its ok.

Sometimes people just need to vent if theyre frustrated with things but many take it too far. Every game has its own real issues and then everyone has their own opinion on design decisions. But when it comes down to it, the developer is designing the game and whatever their reasons for doing certain things is their right, and we have the right to either accept those decisions and continue playing or not accept it and play something else.

I’m quite enjoying AC. I am playing it with a wheel though and it feels much better than Forza. Feels more realistic and intuitive. Given that it is a simulation this makes perfect sense.

If I were to review the game I would say it is a game to play with a wheel and mostly for hotlapping or the time attack mode. Online is dead and would only be fun to play if you could get a large group together. Racing the AI is alright. The graphics are probably on par with FM4. Has good car and track choices but is very limited compared to other titles.

Forza isn’t fun with a wheel. It is in my opinion the ultimate to play with a control pad. The feedback in that regard is excellent. The drivatars make the AI racing feel a bit more human. Though a more professional option would be nice. Car selection is fantastic. Online is more active also.

PCars has the best career mode, most immersive. My problem was the bugs stopped me from playing the game and it has far too many options for setting up the wheel. Not tried online. Excellent track list.

I think I will play through the careers on PCars and AC, once done AC will be my hotlapping game and Forza my online game.

It is amazing with the wheel no doubt about it. It actually finally brought me to complete my tx setup by getting the t3pa pros and 599 alcantra wheel. Once you get the ffb to your preference which really isnt difficult it is highly addictive.

I feel that the graphics are good enough given what their physics engine is trying to accomplish. The graphics are on par with Forza 4. Bigger issue is framerate drops and screen tearing due to all the calculations happening every millisecond in the game. Not a big issue with a small field of cars, but was annoying trying to race a full field of Lotus F1 cars on Monza. It felt weird and disjointed. It wasn’t fluid. The main reason for this is the calculations it does on your car it does on the AI as well. I understand the reasoning behind that design choice but the amount of calculations is just too taxing on the Xbox one. A smaller field will correct for this I’m sure or they could have used a dumbed down physics for the AI. Not sure how this plays out online as I have yet to race in a full lobby.

Yup. I hot my wheel for PCars but I gave up on that game because of the bugs that stopped me being able to load a race. I have bought it since but don’t play it often. AC on the other hand males me want to get the wheel out to do a few laps on a track, it feels so good and is so simple to set up.ore options than Forza but not as crazy as PCars. Perfect for me. I really don’t enjoy using the wheel with Forza.

This is the general xbox gaming thread so we can say whatever we want about other racing games. It’s good to hear first hand experience from a fellow Forza racer on how another racing games stacks up. I have wrote many disparaging posts about Forza and never had a comment locked on me lol. Forza needs more sim aspects badly. Cutting penalties and all the other mayhem that occurs needs to be resolved or Forza and I are going to part ways. The more racing games that come out the more Turn 10 needs to step up its game. AC may not be what Forza fans are looking for but you can get it cheap and there are some funs tracks that aren’t in Forza. 1966 old Monza circuit just a dream, I hope it comes to Forza in the future. PC, AC, Forza all have their merits and their issues. It’s great to have so many racing games to choose from. We seem to be in a golden age of racing games and sims so enjoy it

If you’re going to be a fanboy please refrain from commenting. I got Assetto two days ago and have played it for about 6 hours total so far. In that short amount of time I have been able to determine the following:

  • the driving experience is much better than Forza. With the assists off the car feels so much more raw, and turning transitions feel so much more smooth and fluid. I play with a controller and got the hang of it within an hour, so it’s not difficult like everyone else is saying (because they are bad).

  • graphics are worse, sue 'em. They’re not a huge developing team like Turn 10 with a partnership like MS, so of course they won’t have as much money to play around with.

  • sound is more realistic. Forza has juiced up over-exaggerated sound effects that you’ll never hear in real life. It’s not a bad thing but it’s still not realistic.

  • amount of content is much worse. Half as many cars as Forza and many of them are duplicates. More tracks but only European ones (so no Sebring, RA, Bathurst, etc.)

  • features are also lacking. Tuning is better and more in-depth than Forza but there’s no custom designs, photo mode, or private lobbies.

  • AI are abysmal. There act like you don’t exist and will never give you room to pass. If you don’t like drivatars you’ll hate these guys.

  • online is poorly set up. Hard to find the mode you want to play and every lobby has a pre-set track so you can’t vote on it. Not to mention that I’ve only seen 10-20 people max online at a time, so good luck actually playing against somebody.

So overall it’s a worse game than Forza IMO. The most important thing, the driving experience, is better, but that alone isn’t enough to justify a game. You need the whole package, and Forza has that. If Assetto was more popular and had a larger playerbase it would be much more enjoyable.
