Well if skill gap between two drivers is less than the rally engine versus original engine gap then sure the lesser driver will come out on top. In C class I see a lot of drag tyred, rally engined cars winning. I can not compete unless I join the club. In B class though it is possible to compete without using the top 2 engines.
So I guess in C class I agree with you but that is really just saying the rally engine is way OP.
I only run C class and rarely see drag tire set-ups in lobby. I think people overstate how overpowered the rally motor is. On short (grip) tracks, Rally tunes arnt really that competitive. A ton of diffrent styles of builds are competitive on medium(all round) tracks. The rally motor does dominate speed(power) tracks. Just like B class, theres plenty of non rally builds that are competitive.
I have looked up on Forzastats. You are quicker than me overall and the gap is bigger in C class. But those gaps are not huge.
I was in a couple of lobbies doing quite well in my E type Jag and a 74 Celica with the original motor. Then in the two lobbies some other 74 Celicas, Cortinas and Evos joined and were way quicker. They had acceleration stats of 8.5 and 8.6 and poor handling stats. They destroyed the field at Prague short, Long Beach (medium version), Sebring (the short version without the longest straights) and a few other tracks.
Out of the 4 players across the two lobbies I recognised one players name, the other 3 I did not know.
I don’t see them in every lobby but when I do they are often way out in front.
The other thing I have discovered is there are people who do not know how to drive the rally motor. I explained to a guy in a lobby and a friend when to shift. They had been redlining and were using close ratio racing gearboxes. This is why a lot of them do no do as well as others - not knowing when to chnage gears.
They can be used to even the playing fields if the quicker drivers don’t use those engines and the slower drivers do. I have seen plenty of awesome battles with rally engine v original motors. Some I was involed in and some I watched from behind.
For the purpose of this thread I think the advice is try engine swaps. Sometimes they will do better than upgrading the orginal motor. The 1.6l rally engine and 5.7l v8 swap being the better motors to use.
You have to know the courses like the back of your hand. Learn to upgrade your car instead of quick upgrade. Learn to tune, or buy a tune that works for you. Tuning can take you to the next level, but only after you have learned to drive, and set your car up first. You can be fast get good leaderboard times in a stock vehicle, but the top leaderboard times had a tune.
Like others have said everything boils down to your skill level as a driver and how focused you are to improve or how much time life will let you play.
This is my first forza motorsport game I have ever plated and i went full throttle at everything. I never had a single lap on any of these tracks so I found some respected tuners from my friends list and the forums and used their cars. Read being I wanted to tune but didn’t know how. Once in good cars I was able to learn tracks the correct way while also knowing what a great car feels like.
Now that I knew the tracks it time to learn to tune. Step 2 was all about asking questions like you are and taking the feedback I got and applying it to the car. It can be very over whelming which almost made me give up on tuning all together but u just have to push thru it if u want to be the best u can be. It all comes down to time again so if you don’t have much you have to decide if tuning or racing is more fun for you. There are a lot of helpful threads out there that brake down how to tune and there are alot of people like myself who are more than willing to guide u thru in a party on how to tune.
If u noticed I skipped over the build because I wanted u to read this last. Besides you the build is the most important thing by far. Don’t build for stats on the car build the car for the track. There are so many instances when I saw good stats on a car and 5 he car was just horrible but with a different build and stats that aren’t impressive the car ran much faster. Take the time to build a few and test them out.
Now with my novel out of the way and if u don’t have hours upon hours to invest into building and tuning or if u want to just go back and drive cars to help u learn the tracks I have a huge page of shared cars for u in the tuning catalog section. I’m working on updating a new thread but that old one still has all of my shared cars in it.
The Higher up in classes you go the more important Tuning your car becomes. For example in X-Class using the Lotus E21 every aspect of tuning becomes extremely important on a Track per track Basis.
As you keep driving and tuning yourself you will get better, have a better feel for it and eventually become a lot faster. It took me a very long time to get tuning down and I’m still mediocre at best imo.
I think yes you can be competitive in online lobbies without the greatest tunes.
No if you are talking about climbing the leaderboards.
First:
Driver:
Top drivers can beat average driver using any car/setup/tune.
Second:
Car:
Some car are good, some are average and some are simply bad.
Even with building/tuning, some bad cars will simply stay bad.
Third:
The build:
1000 hp in a civic is simply dumb… or sometime it isnt.
Having the right build for the right track is important.
Grip tune on Le Mans probably wont do any good (for example)
Fourth:
The tune:
If you want to do top times (aka top 100) a good tune is also important.
