“I love my team mates, I love my team mates…”
My use of Forza Link consists of “Nice Driving” after being forced off a checkpoint or into one of the bridge supports on the first “Trial” race. Sarcasm is often lost, but that’s about as much angst as I can convey to my “team” as there are no phrases that say “thanks for nothing Richard head” or something similar. Incidentally, I also have Game Pass, and I will pull to the side, get off the racing line, and even slow momentarily to let quicker/better drivers pass me. I will also hang back and not challenge for places with my team if we’re already in a winning position. I’ll challenge the Drivatars, but I treat my team mates with respect, as long as they deserve it. Sadly though, the majority of the time, they don’t…
The problem with what are, on the face of it, positive messages is that they can easily be taken as being sarcastic. If I mess up during a race and someone says “well done team” or something like that how I take it depends on how I feel. Basically I’m a negative person.
What I find that increases team morale is playing the event with team forefront in my mind. If someone wants to race for the win, let them. I like to act as an AI blocker, it’s my most effective role. If there are four human players, I’ll try and finish 4th with all the AI behind me, as slowly as I can. That way when the people racing for the win miss a checkpoint or otherwise make a mess of things, they can rejoin and catch the AI again quickly.
Success builds morale, who cares where you finish amongst the human players, so long as you’re all ahead of the AI.
There is no sense of morale under the guise of anonymity. It’s an amateur arcade racer with a “I don’t give a damn” playerbase. In all my time online in any game, there’s never once been a player who prioritises team morale over individual performance.
I find it interesting they blame Game Pass players, mostly because the vast majority of rammers I see all have pre order crowns or vip crowns. And even without the mighty crown, they could still own the game. This is the only FH I have not purchased outright, and that was because of the way they left FH4 a broken mess, I figured they would release FH5 as a broken mess and they didn’t disappoint me.
The problem with rammers is due to the win at all cost mentality. Gotta drive fast and win to gain the most experience. In open racing I often give everyone a headstart, and pick up clean pass skills after they run themselves into each other or a wall. I average almost 4 clean passes per race and gain a level on almost every 3 race event, even if I finish in last place, which I do has a harass and taunt the next to last place wreckem up Ranger in second to last place, often stopping and waiting for them after they bounce off a wall or run of the road and miss a check point.
I tend to cause quite a bit if rage quitting with my antics, too bad there’s not an accolade for that.
I must say that I don’t have the time to send some messages during the race. I play the game with keyboard and the standard key settings so the the “C” is somehow out of reach with the numbers 1-4 as they are in the same region as the steering keys and brakes and accelerartion as well.
I play most of the time only with one hand, as the other is occupied as my cat rest normally it’s head on it - yeah that’s right: As a right-hander I play this game with my left hand as the cat has it’s resting place in front of the second monitor (guess it is a warm place there). I have placed a cat bed there and she loves it to rest her head on my right hand.
In FH4 I had used the message system some times, but it only succeeded in missing a check point or driving straight into a corner kissing the wall. And as my cat sleeps next to me I could not bother with some crying out loud my anger about such stupidity by myself.
BTW all the games with keyboard and mouse I play when my cat is down below sleeping by my parents… Racing games are possible without the speaker on, but first person shooter are quite hard if you don’t hear where your oppenents are shooting from…
For god’s sake the era of CRT-monitors are over - could sometime quite uncomfortable especially when I had 3-4 kitten around to hold them back to not falling down from the top of the CRT-body. Not to mention that my arm than blocks some parts of the monitor as well. With the flat screens that problem has gone away at least.
