Want to be sure I know how this works. If I move to a Series X, is it as simple as logging into my account, downloading Forza, then once I boot up the game will all my content and cars etc. boot up exactly as it is now?
Your saves are backed up on the cloud. Even moving from the One to the S/X and back game saves will update. If it weren’t for the poor state of FM I would confidently guess you’re good, but with this game, who knows?
That’s what I figured. It appears everything in FM is cloud saved and not stored locally(?)
Now it’s about debating whether the X is worth the upgrade for me.
Yes! But not sure if it makes things better. I did an upgrade from Series X to PS5. This made the difference.
Lol. That’s an option too.
I dunno, I feel like you’re right in that if I get a new console, I’ll either get a PS5 (while keeping my SS) or keep my SS and not upgrade.
I just spent 2 hours looking at every graphics comparison video of Series S vs Series X on FM specially. Visual mode in S looks nearly identical to RT performance mode on X. X of course is better but to me it’s so marginal it’s not worth upgrading consoles.
Personally I just might not see nearly enough difference in graphics to justify upgrading. Of course the big difference is getting 60fps with those graphics which the S can’t do, but I’m so used to 30fps I don’t mind it and often even prefer it to the insanely smooth “soap opera effect” you get from 60. 30 also is less smooth and detailed so in a racing game imo it makes it feel like you’re going faster.

Getting 60fps does make a huge difference not just in racing games. You could hold off till next year, and get the Series X refresh
Getting 60 and 120 fps is the best part about the X,60 fps in racing games is pretty much mandatory.I tried the 30fps mode on my X …No thanks! I’m not sure what games get 120fps on the X,but if you like consoles I’m sure you will hunt them down, lol…
That’s what I might do.
I guess I should consider myself lucky cause 60 fps isn’t a huge deal to me. This game runs so smooth on 30fps and 60 almost makes it look toooo smooth. One of benefits of 30 is imo it makes you look like you’re going a bit faster as it’s a less polished movement. It’s really all about what you’re acclimated to.
But course given the choice I’d put it at 60. I just mean 30 doesn’t bother me. With the Series S the graphics look horrible in performance mode so that’s out of the question. But graphics in visual mode look good and extremely close to Series X so that’s where I keep it.
To answer you first question…
Yes. Everything is Xbox Live account and cloud based, so it should be as easy as logging onto your new console and everything syncing up once you download the game(s).
I went from Xbox One to Series X, and it was as painless as I describe. I’m also going from PS4 to PS5, and the process should be similar?
I also have a 4TB HDD storage drive with all my games backed up on it hooked up to my Series X. So, I just copied the games to the Series X’s, SSD, and was off to the races - Literally, versus waiting for the games to download.
As far as the 30fps vs. 60fps (and more) debate goes…
The one thing the Forza series doesn’t do well is portray a sense of speed.
It doesn’t matter if you’re at 30fps, or 60fps, and above. It feels slower e.g. The speedometer will read 120MPH, but it feels like you’re going 60MPH. That’s just a game thing and has nothing to do with frames per second.
However, another reason you might feel like you’re going “faster” at 30fps is because motion blur is on by default. This is what makes any racing game, or game with fast movement feel fast because this is the one visual indicator that tells our brain we’re moving fast more than anything else.
Yeah I do think it’s motion blur that does it. I was looking at a comparison video of 30 vs 60 fps in Forza and when looking at the lines on the side curbs, with 60 it looks so smooth and detailed that you can see each curb going by, making it look “slower” to me. With 30 the curbs go by more blurry, like how they’d look in real life, making it look “faster” to me.
Ok XBox, is motion blur something you can toggle in or off on in 60fps?
I haven’t compared it to GT7 but I think FM8 does a pretty good job of showing speed. Especially SUPER high Koenigsegg like speeds. It’s the first game I’ve experienced that has a violent camera shake when hitting those “nearing 300 MPH” speeds which gives a sort of visceral impression.
The 60fps mode significantly reduces input latency, which is further reduced if VRR is enabled. I think this is very important in games where the clock is ticking
