I’ve played Forza 3 without issue and Forza 4 had this problem somewhat but 5 is ridiculous. Dry roads all seem like they’re coated in a sheet of ice. Unless I only drive under 40km per hour
and brake 1km before a turn the car just slides off track constantly. I use a wheel and I have no problem with Forza 3 or the GT series but the physics are COMPLETELY unrealistic in this
game. Makes it totally impossible to come in anything but last place. I’m frustrated because I haven’t had problems like this in other games. It’s totally unrealistic because even when I drove my Camaro on snow or ice in real life I could corner doing about 40km per hour and not slide very much. On dry pavement I could corner doing 90km with crap tires and not slide. This tells me the physics engine is obviously messed up. I guess my question is if there is something I’m missing or is there something to do with the settings I could change to at least make the game playable.
You use the wheel. That’s probably why.
On the controller the game is very responsive to inputs unlike FM3 and FM4 where cars were unrealisticly stiff. In this game you can feel traction breaking and can fix it with appropriate amounts of throttle control.
Could also be sim steering. There’s a big change in the feel of sim in FM5 vs. FM4. I only use sim steering for downloaded tunes where people put too much understeer in a rwd to temper oversteer.
Its definitely the wheel. The ffb and vibration effects leave much to be desired as well as the amount of steering input required, even at 900 DOR, seems much less than it should be for a real life car. You almost never have to turn to 90* unless its a really tight hairpin… Also upon hitting " press a to start " when you load up the game press and hold each of your pedals for 3-5 seconds. This will calibrate them. I would also recommend running high ffb and vibration settings if you have the tx 458 as when the motors heat up both effects will weaken quite a lot.
Thanks for the input. I actually just have the cheapo Spider wheel. It isn’t a great wheel to use but after a lot of practice yesterday I seem to be adjusting to the physics model a lot better.
Using the braking line has helped tremendously (I hate using the lines). I still don’t see how a car taking a wide turn at 30km per hour with racing compound
should screech like crazy and slide into walls but at least I’m able to control it now. I’ve been managing to come in 1st or 2nd with drivers set to average which is a lot better than coming in last. lol
I really want to get a TX wheel but if it has the same problem maybe I’ll pass. They don’t seem to sell the 3 pedal set anywhere anymore anyway.
You are probably turning the wheel too much for the turn and overloading the front tires.
Bring up the telemetry by pressing down on the d pad then press right on the d pad once to bring up the friction telemetry. ( the big green circles )
If the top 2 circles turn red and the numbers reach over 110% when you are turning then you are turning the wheel more than necessary for the corner.
That’s a great tip IR. I think you’re right. I’ve been driving a lot better and I notice you barely have to turn this wheel to make a full turn.
Seems a bit unrealistic compared to other sims and wheels I use but at least I’m used to it now. In real life your car would never screech like
crazy and slide all over the place doing 20km per hour on a slightly sharp turn but it is what it is.
Yeah it was the biggest thing I had to get used to when I got my wheel. It seems it only needs as much input on the wheel as the driver would show in cockpit view if u were using a controller and it is quite annoying and unrealistic as you said
This sounds very similar to what I am going through and have created an other thread about it.
In Forza 5 online multiplayer while in a lobby with others. While driving I notice a heavy loss of overall car traction that is not happening when drivng with the AI.
The effect is similar to driving on black ice or for the lack of a better word - like driving with completely worn out tires. Doing a pit stop does not fix the issue.
Due to this I must brake much too early - the car is very unstable upon acceleration or braking. I loose about five to ten seconds per lap due to this problem.
I race with the Thrustmaster TX wheel and I notice that the Force Feedback effects are much less during this issue
I race with no assists and again this is only evident during online multiplayer lobbies
I have a Fibre optic 25mb internet connection with no visible lag in game…
Note - I have had this issue in FM4 on occasion with a Fanatec wheel but not as severe as in FM5
Yeah, it does feel different between hot lap and test drive. Although I don’t notice much difference between hot lap and multiplayer. I’m not sure there is anything you can do about it tho
I do notice the vibration cuts out sort of randomly leaving the cars a bit numb feeling. If u press the Xbox button on the wheel to go to home screen then hit a to go back into forza it should bring the vibration back
I agree with thus 100 percent, I’m currently playing through 3 and keep having a few quick goes on 4 and 5 and using a thrustmaster wheel is awful on 5.
I’ve got the thrustmaster 458 on xbox 360 and xbox one plus I have the thrustmaster 458 tx So can definitely have a valid opinion.
