Without AWD you can choose any car. It literally won’t matter. This game builds like Motorsport 3 and 4. AWD has no drawbacks, and many advantages. Plus the PI increase for the advantages are minimal. Going from stock to street tires tend to add 50-100 pi per car but swapping to AWD increases PI by less than 30 in most RWD cars and even less in FWD. plus the mechanical grip advantage of powering four tires means less grippy tires can be used, allowing you to pump horsepower and gearbox upgrades while avoiding spending PI on handling.
I’m sure you know all this already but the main reason I stay away from online play is because I too dislike AWD swapping every car I have to be competitive. I also like to drive the cars in their stock form because that is where they are most unique and technical. All cars handle the same once built with Forza upgrades. The only difference between them once upgraded is turn in response. And that can be modified with tuning and controller and difficulty settings.
I built a RWD Bentley 8 Liter for B class that is a blast to drift with. No one else uses it so it stands out, plus it’s a surprisingly good drifter due to its long wheel base and skinny tires.
Plus the complete and utter lack of realism that I have to swallow to AWD swap some cars is too much to bear. A car with a front mounted engine and transmission would require a transfer case, extra drive shaft to the front, front mounted differential set to one side of the engine, CV axles or a solid axle shaft to each front wheel, all while fitting underneath the engine that is mounted low in most sports cars in between the wheels. (Where the front axle would need to be)
Look at the ridiculous set up Ferrari came up with in the Ferrari FF to see how hard it is to actually have AWD in a longitudinal front mount engine set up.
Most common AWD cars in real life use a transverse front mounted engine with a transaxle and differential packed right next to and behind the engine. This places the bulk of engine weight in front of the front wheels and impairs handling. 4WD cars with transfer cases are generally taller, mounted body to frame (trucks and SUVs) or in a tall unibody SUV. They have to have enough clearance to place a front diff and axles underneath a longitudinally mounted engine.
And I won’t even begin to assume it’s possible to AWD swap a car with a front mounted engine, torque tube and rear transaxle. (Corvette, most Alfa romeos, Ferraris, etc.)
I wish that AWD swaps had more realistic drawbacks like understeer or higher mounted engines with more body roll.
I agree and on my opnion drivetrain swap should not be a option on this game since all other upgrades are basic like roll cages weigth reduction etc, its possible AWD swap in real life but this level of modification is just too extreme, you need to change a lot of the design of the chassi because AWD use a lot of space, on my opnion to allow this they need to allow us to upgrade cars on hillclimb/time attack level with super light full carbon fiber chassis and extreme aero upgrades to lower aero drag and increase downforce
Lets start from the top
S2 - there are 4 basic simple choices: VW id.R, bac mono, MB clk gtr, tvr speed 12. VW lacks top speed, its great for twisty roads, but you have to have huge balls to turn in at 200kph. Tvr is another pretty hard to drive car but in awd setup its monster at straight line and corners good enough.
S1 - for rally grc Beetle, for trail - i wanted something different and not trophy truck soft, so i went with AMG GTS with awd and off road suspension. For streets: bać mono - lacks top speed, corners great, lotus elise gt1 - more balamced but corner focused, mclaren f1 - fast, nimble, performante - decent but slower that you may think, ford gt mk2 is rapid. Also good but tvr like driving experience is awd swapped viper gts
A - generally any older car would be decent. Gulia tz2 is overall good car. I preffer to corner faster so alpine a110 is the choice of mine, e36 m3 is better on straights. Thimgs like austin helay or na miata should be at least decent
For S2 I recommend the Aston Martin Vulcan. The Ferrari LaFerrari can’t make it to the top of S2 RWD, yet in spite of that remains very competitive as well. If you’re going to keep cars RWD, Ferrari is a good place to look in general.
S1 pretty much any Ferrari or Porsche is a good pick. I’m impartial to Porsches so I’m going to recommend the 911 3.3 Turbo. Classic 80’s Porsche with a sweet widebody kit so you can get those thick rear tires.
Lots of options in A, but if you have the car pass you need to check out the 69 Mustang 2+2 fastback. If you don’t have the car pass but still want some classic muscle, the Camaro is a good substitute. Otherwise I’d look at the BMW Z series of cars. I did a RWD converted STI as a tribute to baby driver that turned out much better than I anticipated as well. Honestly there are too many cool options here to list.
The Alfa 33S is a very nice RWD A class car. Seem to recall Breeminator has a very good tune for it. Also worth trying the Civic (74 and 97 versions) as a FWD option in A and B class. Haven’t really tried RWD much in S1 and S2 but the Shelby King Cobra in S1 class (RWD) is insanely quick.
