I Got A Refund. A Rant. No Hate. Just Dissapointment.

As much as I wanted to like Forza 7, I just couldn’t do it. I discovered the franchise back when Forza 3 launched and I absolutely loved it! Forza 4 was even better. My career caused me to end up on the opposite side of the country from my closest friends, and these Forza games were a perfect way for us to stay connected. Night after night we would set up private lobbies, fill them up with carefully selected AI cars of various skill levels to fill out the grid, and race for hours. It was a blast! It was cool to be able to put the faster tier AI cars in our lobbies so they’d be more challenging to race against. The slower AI cars served as lappers during some of our longer races. Successfully negotiating around them was critical in those instances were victory came down to the last few inches. The rudimentary championship point system from back in the day was just icing on the cake. So much fun!

Of course with the introduction of Forza 5, the private lobbies became more restricted. For whatever reason, you could only add a few AI cars to your lobbies, and as a result, the fun and immersion factors were greatly degraded. We chalked it up to the chaos surrounding the new console release and moved on. Two years later, we automatically ordered Forza 6 assuming the customized lobby features would be back in place. Why wouldn’t they be? It just makes sense! Wrong again. I got completely away from Forza and any related hype for a couple more years, and then on blind faith alone, decided to purchase the digital Ultimate Edition of Forza 7 via the Xbox store. Big mistake! Not only were private lobbies essentially eliminated all together, so was the car PI, along with nearly everything else that made Forza Forza to me. The classy music/presentation was replaced by blaring, generic guitar music and twerky, over caffeinated driver models wearing ridiculous driving suits! Then there was the mod boxes, the nonsensical (Hip?) UI, and, well, you know the rest. Anyway, I figured since I’d spent the money, I’d at least try to get some single player enjoyment out of the game. It was nice to have Suzuka back, and the car collisions along with certain other sound effects were definitely improved. The weather effects were a novelty for a while, but eventually I started to notice how ugly parts of the game were. I’ve heard others say that during a race, there’s no time to look around at the decreased track and scenery detail. I had time to notice, but maybe that’s just me. One thing I can’t possibly understand, is how someone can’t notice how simple and bland the AI car models have become. It was shocking! Out of curiosity, I popped Forza 6 in and did a quick race at Laguna Seca. Next, I did the same race in Forza 7. Forza 6 looked so much better than 7 in nearly every area, it almost seems as though it was produced by a different studio. It was astonishing! To make matters worse, I was experiencing frame rate issues and system crashes. (Xbox One-S) I’d never had these problems with a Forza game before. I understand that larger grids, dynamic weather, and other GPU intensive features can make compromises in other areas unavoidable. Are things like driving suits, Forza Vista, 24 car grids, Mod boxes, and 700 plus in game cars really more important than new tracks, and solid, FUN, versatile gameplay? I fully accept I may be in the minority on this, but I’ve never understood Turn 10s obsession with Forza Vista. If I want to see the inside of a Honda Civic in all it’s glorious detail, I’ll go out to the garage and get in mine! As for the race car interiors, I’m more than happy to take a quick peak from inside the cockpit while I’m racing. I don’t mean to step on Forza Vista fans’ toes, but it just seems like the time and resources could be better utilized elsewhere. I thought about waiting to see if patches came out to resolve some things, but the fact is, Turn 10 is taking the franchise in what they believe is a younger, hipper, more accessible direction. They aren’t turning back either. Who knows. Maybe from a business standpoint, they’re right. I’m sorry if I sound bitter. I’m also sorry this was so long, but man I miss the good times I used to have with these games! For you guys that enjoy the way the series is going, more power to you. Enjoy. It’s just not for me though.

On a more positive note, I voiced these complaints (as well as concerns about the VIP misrepresentation) to a Microsoft support rep through their chat service and they refunded my $107.99 without hesitation. I suspect there have been many similar complaints. Regardless, that was definitely a classy thing to do and they kept me as a future customer because of it. Kudos to Microsoft Support!

I’m trying not to refund. I’ve now wasted around 25gb of data (10gb, 10gb, 5gb) and am now trying to download for the fourth time.

I don’t understand how Microsoft could be so incompetent as to:

  1. Not fix the download issues that occurred over a year ago
  2. Expect people to be able to download a nearly 100gb game on their clearly broken service

Well said. You are not alone in this. I’m just plowing through and am quite surprised the game turned out this way, it almost seems pointless to continue. Hopefully there will be a large patch in a couple of weeks. Voicing our opinions will help T10 in the future.

I would say that Forza 7 is an improvement over 5 and 6. Input has been, again and again, bring back the community, bring back gifting and collaboration, bring back an economy where a player can work hard to obtain a skill set and make some credits, bring back some of the most basic components of the franchise (auction house, gifting of tunes and liveries, private lobbies that are open to join), and T10 will maybe (if we are lucky) include maybe, MAYBE, one of these items, that they twist and change until it’s nothing like the function the community loved. There was a time that the forums were booming, and your thread would disappear in 30 minutes if you didn’t get a response. Now, we can go days without any new threads in some of the sub forums. The community has told T10 what they want, and T10 has never fully delivered. That being said, I think T10 is on the right track, but they have to bring collaboration back to the game, otherwise, it’s just another “racing game”.

Thanks for the honest writeup. It’s been a while since I’ve been active here, and I’ve been debating picking up the UE of the game. At this point, I think I’ll hold off and see how things shake out - I still have plenty to do in FM6 and FH3.

My biggest complaint with the Ultimate Edition is also my biggest complaint with the FH3 Ultimate Edition. You pay $100 for it and you still need to purchase $60 in add-ons later. Well, you don’t have to but at least some would want to. I would pay $150 for a proper Ultimate Edition if it actually included everything! if they don’t get this point through their thick heads by the time FH4 and FM8 come out. I won’t be buying either!

I am also trying my best not to refund. I still have hope that they will address the many issues with the game; gamplay-wise as well as performance. But honestly I don’t feel like even firing up the game anymore. Didn’t even plug my wheel this last time. The only saving grace which are the amazing visuals(while racing, the game looks and runs absolutely stunning), decent sounds (I’ve found a couple of discrepancies already though) and great physics are just losing against the ever-so irritating career and now the even more constant crashes and new glitches.

Seriously. It pretty much goes like this:

-Feeling zero excitement as I know what awaits. Just worries. Still give game a chance since maybe something will change.
-Fire up the game. Game crashes after the “Press Enter” in the title.
-Manage to get in the game. Run through the menus wondering what to do. Crash.
-Being very careful and slow, letting everything load while navigating the extremely laggy menus, finally getting into a race. Crash in the pre-race menu.
-Finally being able to race. Crash two laps before a long race ends.
-After a while, finish the race. Try to change cars. Tune the car and customize it. Parts don’t show in race. (no spoiler or side mirrors. Subaru BRZ and BRZ FE). Finish the race anyway. Crash while collecting rewards.
-Leave racing and focus on just making designs. Game decides to get stuck while saving after spending 20 minutes in a design. ALT-F4. Design lost.
-Get back in the game having completely lost any will to deal with it. Just browse cars knowing the game might not handle it. Crash.
-Come back to the forum and make this post.
-Sunday lost. My only day off. Got zero out of the game…

I still love Forza. But I might have to try and get a refund. I will definitely buy it again along the road. Once things get better. T10 listens, so I know it will happen.

This is pretty much my experience with Forza 7 so far. The career races were already in FM4 so boring I sometimes fell asleep during them. No joke.

Youre not alone . And the sad part is i think they wont give us the ability to put ai in multiplayer lobbies in future updates . Lot of people talked about restriction of private lobby in previous games . Nothing changed . It feels like they dont even care about their community . Because i dont think forza community didnt want any of these features . I would understand you can try something new about 1 or 2 things but they literally broke the game with their own hands . I hope they all see the refunds and aware of it .

T10 is going to continue to ignore issues with their games as they always have. They’ve now somehow been able to squeeze one past people who thought they were getting the same “VIP” stuff we’ve been getting instead we just paid $30 extra for absolutely nothing.

Same, though I didn’t need to get a refund; I cancelled my pre-order once the marketing campaign had run and it was clear the parts of the game that I play and would have liked to see improvements in (the shocking state of multiplayer, for example) were not being improved, a part of the game I don’t play and have no interest in was going to diminish my experience further (the progression system forcing me to grind through owning cars to be able to play the game).

All the other changes were either of no consequence to me (4k, driver gear), or actually negative (loot crates), but I could have lived with those.

The only positives were the return of Mugello, Suzuka and Maple, and maybe the homologization (assuming it’s not as much of a let-down as Leagues were in FM6), and that just wasn’t enough to tip the balance.

I did the same as you, and it turned out we took the right decision…

I’m sure there are some solid points in here but I didn’t read 80% of your post… BIG wall of text! Paras makes it super reader-friendly.

If I, an ordinary forum visitor, did not bother reading most of that, do you think the developers will? List out your concerns in bullets or paras and they just might get addressed.

I’m glad you got your refund OP. I was flat out refused when I asked for one. Listed many of the issues with the game that many people have and they just said that they couldn’t refund.

Guess I’m stuck with it now. :disappointed:

I was going to hold off of my refund for the UE but I figured I could always buy it back if Turn 10 comes to their senses but I might not always be able to get a refund. I had mine processed yesterday and it showed up to my MS account immediately. Getting a refund is also the clearest message we can send to Turn 10. These companies are starting to bite the hands that feed them. If they don’t change, it will come back to hurt them in the future.

I know I’ve bought way fewer games this generation because of the massive amount of DLC and shady sales practices these companies have used. Never thought the later would happen with a Forza game.

These are same posts as all the other releases… Youve got to realize you are 1 in a million to microsoft/forza. You really dont matter. Sorry thats big business. It appeals to the masses not minority.

No. Actually, most of us do realize we no longer matter to Microsoft/Turn 10. That’s why so many are cancelling pre-orders and getting refunds for the first time. What I don’t understand, are people who just roll with Turn 10’s decision to methodically strip away basic core features that made their franchise great to begin with. If this approach continues, I doubt the masses will be quite so massive. T-10 probably assumes that the spiffy 4K specs and hip (grating?) new attitude will entice younger Forza newcomers to buy the game on flash alone. Most of them will never know that by and large, Forza, looked, played, and ran better years ago. Maybe they’re right. Maybe the new demographic will make up for the loss of a few disenfranchised old timers. It’s just depressing to think about how easily the game could’ve been more fun and satisfying for everyone.

He’s part of a demographic like all of us. Many people feel like him.

Basically 3 main views in a demographic. Yes,no,maybe

It seems like the masses are starting to feel the same way based on the VIP reviews on its product page, and this is only for the UE prerelease. Just wait until tomorrow when the delux edition people get theirs.

I’m not so sure my way of thinking hasn’t already started for other games. Maybe there is a reason Madden has already been on sale twice since coming out less than a month ago. Why did Activision go back to WWII and publicly admit they’ve been going in the wrong direction? I’m betting low sales. It’s the reason any company does anything. Maybe more people feel like me than you think and we’re starting to see the repercussions.

Yeah. Sorry about the last big wall of text. Unfortunately, my passion got the best of me. I’m completely frustrated that so many beloved features from this franchise have simply withered away. We all can appreciate change when it’s for the greater good, but it’s like Turn 10 intentionally threw out the baby with the bath water this time. Not everything was bad! Quite the contrary. It’s not just Turn 10 doing stuff like this either. Look at the state of Gran Turismo. I recently read an article where Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi went on at length about how his team spent incredible amounts of time, energy, and resources ensuring that the bolts from the Suzuka Ferris wheel were perfectly spaced. The bolts!! Unlike it’s predecessor, GT Sport will feature fewer cars, fewer tracks, no night racing, and no weather whatsoever. No wonder it takes so long between GT titles! For the life of me, I can’t understand why these massive racing franchises are going backwards? Are the CEOs really that out of touch with us common consumer types? We just want to race in a solid game with the same options and flexibility we enjoyed more than a decade ago. It’s not complicated.

Maybe instead of making Forza 8, Turn 10 could re-master Forza 4 instead. I’d buy that in a heartbeat! It would be an excellent starting point to begin rebuilding the franchise too. I don’t know how anyone else feels, but I don’t prefer style over substance. Sure style is nice, but the graphics and game stability this time around are nothing compared to what they once were. With FM7, you could argue that we didn’t get style or substance. Anyway, sorry about another block of text. At least it was smaller this time!

As for refunds, if anyone has an interest in exploring that option, the sooner you try, the easier it will be. Microsoft has been dealing with a run of them. You can always buy later at a lower price if the bugs and omissions are addressed. In my opinion, the UE is definitely not worth the price of admission. To each his own though.
