I adore FM: Here's why

because they want to do new things every time they go up to bat with the series. 1 and 2 were pushing the limits of console realism at the time. 3 changed everything with the new storefronts, paint trading, you name it, Four tied everything together.

Five, Five tried to show off more details, tried to give credit, and history, background and honor to the cars that make the franchise as cool as it is.

I haven’t had a chance to play with six, because I don’t have a 1, and I’m not buying one either.

If forza is going to come to the PC that seems like fantastic news, but here’s a caveat. You will be playing by PC rules. the real fans of motorsport want not just support for a wheel, but the wheel to do exactly what it’s supposed to do. Directly Control The Front Wheels Of The Car.

To take that away is to turn what could be darn near a who’s who list of cars in a darn near simulation environment, and turn it into a choose your own adventure book.

“You approach a hairpin! What do you do?”
“I brake hard, then cut the wheel for a late apex, after tailbraking!”
“Sorry, the front wheels lurch slowly to 1/4 wheel turn, and you understeer your razor sharp ferrari into the wall. Care to rewind?”

And while I’m fully aware that the base consumer doesn’t want or care to have 100% unassisted control of the car, Why in god’s name, are you going to put the stig on your racing game, if you can’t turn the nanny off, and pretend for a while to be the stig?

I could deal with subpar visuals and I could deal with subpar framerates and I could deal with subpar this and blah blah that, but if you can’t control the car, in a realistic fashion with a G27, 29, 25, whatever retail wheel you’ve bought that works on any xbox around, … What gives you any inkling at all that you can hold a candle to ProjectCARS, at least they patched up their wonkiness after a half a year of AMD users tirades.

If you fix this before a 6/7 PC launch, at least, for the love of pete you will have evaded something that would leave all people who take racing seriously pointing and laughing at your work.

Do you really want to have to read: “Oh yeah, best racing game that you can’t use a steering wheel with…” when someone describes your game?

steering wheel, physics and controls should be absolutely the first thing to sort out in your port. without proper controls it’s a willy nilly screenshot generator. And I refuse to pay money for that. I promise.

Wheel support is coming. It’s in the release notes.

But meh… I drive mostly unassisted with a controller. I’d say turning is about 90% triggers and 10% stick to that way. The triggers might seem less precise than pedals, but maybe my index fingers are more accurate than my feet…?

Forza coming to PC is amazing news for an old timer like myself. Really excited for this

I’m coming around to liking it too, and like you said, play by PC rules. It will take some effort if they truly want to do the platform justice. Look at the latest NFS PC port, it was delayed just to give it basic PC features. I think FMA is well on the way.

As a fan of the Witcher series of games I’m pretty sure the guy who did the voice of Vernon Roche also does the track info in FMA too, sure sounds like him anyway.
