Would really appreciate your thoughts on this (Forza series on PC)

This has been an interesting development,
As a PC gamer my whole life, now Forza on (we can’t really say coming anymore) PC, something I’ve wanted since i played FM3 on a friends X360.

There is an issue, Forza has been the pride and joy of the Xbox racing community, now, that exclusivity is gone. We PC people are now in on the action, this means new rules and new expectations.
T10 and PG now have to play by PC gamer rules, i.e. no screw ups, no day 1 10GB patches, no bad ports, uses computer hardware efficiently, can run smoothly regardless whether you push the machine or not.

I’m just slightly concerned with how this is all going to go, there are still many people who will die bleeding console.

I’ve been reading a lot on the FH3 forums and posting every here and there. My generally feeling is not many receive solid answers regarding PC, Optimization, wheel support (which they announced we have to wait for… again…) I know it’s probably because we only have Apex to go off - which in itself makes me a bit uneasy.

I guess my last point is, Communication from devs Cue the dramatic music that single thing is one of the biggest challenges i think T10/PG will experience. PC gamers don’t like being left in the dark, there is a good reason Valve is held in the regard that it is in the PC world. Blizzard too (yeah they’ve stuffed up, but, they recovered), Codemasters have stepped up, Fraxis, Paradox. (There are others these are just the ones I play games from)
I’d love to see T10/PG come in and absolutely dominate. Become a legendary developer in the PC community, that’d be incredible.

This is an all over the place post, I do apologize, I’d really like to get my concerns out there and have some feedback on them, from the players or T10/PG representative. Quote whatever you want from it and we can have a chat.

P.S. Don’t get me wrong I’m super keen for Forza series on PC, I just have my doubts.

I don’t have any doubts because Forza 6 APEX is a very good and well optimized game even before wheel support. I just stopped playing the game because of the lack of wheel support.

Hmmm, I agree about the game being very good, plays well on controller, looks STUNNING (accepting the typical beta glitches) and as you say yourself lack of info on wheel support is PART of the reason I no longer play, the MAIN one is that playing with a controller for too long builds up bad habits (from a wheel users perspective). I find it best to play from day 1 with the wheel or stop playing long enough to forget the reactions I’ve learned when using the controller, hope that makes some sense…

Little history to explain what I’m wittering on about if not,
I played Grid 1 from launch for over 2 years with a controller, I was an “above average” racer but a pretty darn good drifter with the controller ( https://youtu.be/BsjsUeQEAz0 ), I had a 60/40 w/l ratio at the time…
I then bought a Logitech DFGT and spent months learning to use it but still couldn’t beat my personal best times by more than half a second per lap, as for drifting? Try as I might it just wouldn’t come together…

Along came Dirt3, I never played it with a controller only the wheel, personally, I like to think I got “very good” racing ( https://youtu.be/LAso3TDYGUc ) and PRETTY darned close to “outstanding” in Gymkhana ( https://youtu.be/AUD4ohZ-xVY ).
Dirt 3 was also my first foray into eyefinity/crossfire, things just got better and better, ( https://youtu.be/_JVbI4WtISM ) ( https://youtu.be/j541vwYcChA ).

I went back to Grid 1 after 6-7 months off and Lo and Behold! Something had changed, 3-5+ seconds a lap improvement in races, I now also had much more confidence during close quarters racing ( https://youtu.be/7eRABii0aOE ) As for drifting? Well… ( https://youtu.be/b28tIPKu6yk ) ( https://youtu.be/mVq_rWXHqbA ) You tell me…

Wheel support is a MAJOR worry, more so for me is custom resolution and crossfire support as I’m running on 2 x 8GB R9 290X’s and 3 x 23" 1080p monitors, upgrades planned include 27-34" 1440p screens @ 144Hz followed by Zen CPU and Vega GPU when they arrive so I really wan’t to make the most of the hardware from day 1…

After all I got to be the only person other than the press with access to the press preview of Grid Autosport, I was playing that in BOTH eyefinity and crossfire BEFORE launch day… ( https://youtu.be/_XcgMprvQYg ) I’m STILL plying it now ( https://youtu.be/hlGDEIP19lo ) Unlike those games that don’t fully support one or the other like Assetto Corsa (no crossfire support Best eyefinity support yet) and PCars (huge problems in crossfire and nigh on unplayable on 3 screens + 1GPU)…

Sadly though… Recent history has shown an increasing lack of support for these High spec-High demand options “Out of the box” and I REALLY don’t want to be forced back to the days of single screen & single GPU over and over and OVER again thank you very much…

Given all I mention above I think Doowhtuos’s concerns are MORE than justified, In fact they don’t go far enough , PC players pay for “the best” but get increasingly neglected in favour of an attitude of “Get it to work on console 1st then flog it to the PC crowd as it is… Any problems we’ll fix later”…

Thats not the worst of it. They don’t even use proper full screen with UWP. They use borderless mode which is not ideal.

Borderless windowed, It’s definetly not ideal, however, as someone who will seldomly not be working on more than one thing on a PC at a time I do quite like it.
Performance wise, not the best though.

Appreciate your replies! I read somewhere that t10 wanted to develop wheel support that could be copy and pasted to other w10/dx12 games, hence why it was taking so long. That made me confused as I don’t quite know how DX12 has anything to do with controller support.

Games aren’t really optimised that well for SLI either, it’s a niche market and always will be a niche market, I believe. Where 2 times the GFX cards doesn’t equal 2x the performance. For 2x the cost.

Keep the discussion happening :smiling_face::smiling_face:

Well now that its got wheel support all I can say is wow, I’m absolutely loving it, and I run quite a few racing games and Assetto Corsa a supposed sim. The only thing I can see beating this is Horizon 3, and I’m busting to try that out.

still no multiplayer/co-op?
kind of a dealbreaker for me…

^this
So beta purely just meant ‘wheel support’
Where is the free multiplayer?? (PCMR)
Where is split screen?? Had a funny chat with a console kid about split screen.

I was really hoping the update was going to be wheel support, multiplayer, local play and a track or car.
2 months between updates…

One of the other main features of Forza is Car Decal Customisation . Was waiting for this for a long time but no ! They ignore it !

Why ppl cry about multiplayer when it wasn’t even mentioned by developers?
